General :: Internal Storage Space Keeps Getting Lower?
Dec 17, 2013Recently, I have noticed that my android phone keeps telling me I have insufficient storage. So, I start deleting most of my apps, except for Facebook, Viber, Whatsapp and the pre-installed apps. However, in my apps section, it shows I have used up 863MB whereas in the storage section, it says I have used up 213MB. Funny thing is, Facebook, Viber and Whatsapp are all installed in my SD card. I have to force stop my Facebook app and clear the cache files in order to use my phone.

Jan 15, 2013Here is a screenshot of my Nexus 7's memory using the app "DiskUsage". Is it just me or does 7 gig seem like a lot for the system data. I'm running mmuzzy's rom which is pretty vanilla. I'm CONSTANTLY struggle with getting a low memory error and was wondering if there's something screwing me over.

However, I am always running out of space on my internal storage...but I don't know why.
I am rooted with with both Titanium & App2SD installed.
I have very few apps installed and nearly all of them have been moved to my SD card. Yet I only have around 40mb free on my internal storage (from a total of 400mb).
I cannot figure out what is using all of my internal space. I have looked in Titanium at apps using my interal storage and it does not even come close to the 350mb it says I am using.
What could be using all this space and is there any way to find out for sure?

HTC EVO 4G :: Is 250MB Available Space Enough For Internal Phone Storage?
Jun 13, 2010I installed a bunch of apps and I think the EVO has 1gb of space. Just wondering if that's enough available for me to do other things. I want to leave a "buffer" just in case. I'm currently using the Sandisk 8GB MicroSD Class 2 that came with the phone and when I was looking at selling my Touch Pro 2, it turns out that I have a Class 6 Transcend 8gb MicroSD card. I want to switch them out, if I just copy everything from the Sandisk to the Transcend, will that be ok? Or do apps/Android write the data a certain way that I'll have to re-do things again?

Jul 16, 2010Until Froyo arrives this is an ongoing issue for those of us who have not rooted. I thought it would be useful to have a thread collating tips for managing the space effectively.The phone has 147mb of space available when new. The cut off point for the low space warning in the notification bar is 14mb.When the low space warning shows then you can't install any new apps or update any existing ones. You also can't send any texts.
Here are some tips I have posted for managing space efficiently:
1. Use Astro file manager to back up apps to sd card. You can then uninstall some of the larger apps such as games which are not played frequently. Then if you want to use that app again you can reinstall direct from the sd card in a matter of seconds (even if you have a low space warning).
2. Regularly clear cache by going into menu / settings / applications / manage applications / menu / sort by size. Click on the largest ones such as maps and internet and see if there is any cache which can be cleared.
3. Check email settings. Email will take up much more space if you have it set to download the last two weeks rather than just the last couple of days. You can also set limits on file sizes and number of emails to download.
4. Check settings for any RSS and news feeds you may have. Try and set them to limit the number of items and to automatically clear themselves after a couple of days.
5. Regularly reboot the phone. Sometimes if you uninstall something or clear cache the free space does not appear straight away and only shows up when you reboot the phone.
6. Mini Info is a good widget for monitoring the free space available
I've noticed quite a few posts saying that Facebook and Contacts are taking up large amounts of space. This is not an issue I've had personally as I don't use Facebook. If anyone has any tips or comments on how to manage this effectively then please add them.

Jul 28, 2010I have a Motorola Droid that isn't rooted. In the last few weeks I've had problems with dropping free space on internal storage. I'm around 30MB free but it drops almost daily. I have deleted pics and text messages and have started deleting apps but the free space keeps dropping.Is there some way to figure out where this space is going or monitor for changes?

Nov 30, 2011I have a UnRooted Desire HD running 2.3.3, and recently I got the "Low on Space" icon. Upon checking my apps and there size I only have 240ish MB of apps. So I deleted some apps and got 144MB of free space. Then over night my phone went from 144MB down to 8MB of free space (phone was on the charger and wasn't touched all night).
I did download an app called DiskUsage and it shows a very detailed view of whats taking up what space on either the SD or internal storage, and is showing me that my System Data is using 885MB of internal storage space. A friend has the same phone and he got the same app to compare and he only has 90MB of system data. I Hard Reset the phone and hope it doesn't come back, but I would like to know how to correct this issue if it was to happen again.
HTC Droid Eris :: Free Internal Storage Space For Applications?
Apr 26, 2010Is there any function or even app on the phone that will tell me how much free space I have for apps on the phone? The "free space" number that is in ABout Phone, or in many many system tools type apps is misleading, because that is a combination of the app space and the working memory space. Since Linux loads that up to be more efficient, it will almost always show some relatively low number (30-40MB in my case) as long as the phone has been turned on for some time. In reality, I only have 35MB of apps installed on my phone, so I have plenty of room, it is just hard to tell. So far, the only place I can find that info is on the web-based side of appbrain. Is there any on-phone location where I would be able to get that info? (Short of actually adding up all my apps' sizes by hand?)

May 26, 2013This phone was my dads until he got a new one, but he only has a limited amount of time to retrieve the data before it goes back to T-mobile or else he has to pay money for the broken phone core. It was dropped, and broke the digitizer but not the screen. As of now, the display doesn't work at all, but I can hear the phone turn on just fine. I have been trying to think of how I can access the internal storage without tearing the phone apart and getting to the storage directly(not sure if that would work either).

Aug 23, 2013I've bought this chinese clone of the SIII, it's a MT6575. It's great except for the internal storage, which supposedly is 500MB but there seems to be an invisible SD storage which is 2GB. It's really confusing... When I go to Settings -> Storage there are 3 memories: "Internal Storage" (claims to be 4GB but it's fake, it's actually 500MB), "Phone Storage" (claims to be 16.5GB but it's probably 2GB), and finally my SD, "SD Card" (32GB).
The thing is, I'm having problems downloading big apps because apps go to "Internal Storage" which is 500MB only, and which files are stored in the "Phone Storage" (maybe internal & phone are actually the same?). However when I go to Settings -> Apps, on the "Downloaded" tab, the apps are in "Internal Storage" (500MB), and on the "On SD Card" tab, it shows that apps are in "Phone Storage" (the ones I moved to SD). This means my 32GB SD isn't being used by the system when I send apps to SD probably.
Also, my 32GB SD card is found in /mnt/sdcard2, and the /mnt/sdcard... I don't know which storage is that.
So basically all this is happening because I tried to Link2SD with my 32GB SD doing all the 2 partitions stuff and so, but Link2SD never detects the "secondary SD" which is the 32GB SD, as this fake SD card, "Phone Storage", is probably what the programs thinks to be the SD card.

Android :: Cannot Playback Video From Internal Storage - Data-data-com.myapp-some-folders-video.mp4
Aug 4, 2010I have an application with a lot of media data (images and videos) that were previously stored on the sdcard. With that, images and videos are displayed fine in my app.
Now, in order to secure the content more, I wanted to move the content to the internal storage / data dir of the app, which I did. I copied all media with a routine within my app to the data folder (/data/data/com.myapp/some/folders/video.mp4) and adjusted the path in my app so that it would look for the media in the internal storage data directory and not the sdcard anymore.
Everything works fine, images are being displayed (decoded) properly, but videos don't play. They files do exist though - I do not get a FileNotFound exception. But an IOException: java.io.IOException: Prepare failed.: status=0xFFFFFFFC
Why is that? Everything is handled within my one app and the videos have been copied with the same routine as the images, thus having the same permission settings. Looking at the stack trace, it all runs in process id 18060).
Why I cannot playback the video from internal storage? Or how can I?

May 27, 2013This message keeps freezing my phones ability to send and receive texts. I've deleted threads,unused apps and pictures and files. This is frustrating me to no end! The internal storage is nearly full, but the Ram has tons of space. I have moved everything to SD that can be moved,cleared cache and have an app for doing this autimatically. I've read up a bit on rooting and don't believe that is for me as I'm an amatuer.
How can I fix this and why do I have so much RAM,but no internal memory?
General :: Not Enough Phone Storage Space
Nov 11, 2011when my phone gets down to like 17 megs free on the internal storage, I get the little icon in the corner telling me I'm low on space.
When that happens, I also start getting errors when I try to send a text or open my browser that say "Not enough phone storage space". This then completely prevents me from using the browser or sending a text message.
What the heck is up with that? 17 megs is a huge amount of space to be free. Why would that prevent me from using my phone? Is there something I can do to fix that or change when it thinks I'm low? I have to keep uninstalling things just to get my phone to work. I've moved everything I can over to the SD card but it hasn't worked. I just don't get why things would stop working when I still have 15+ megs free.
This is an Optimus V on 2.2.2

General :: TWRP Taking Up Too Much Storage Space?
Jan 9, 2014I have a rooted HTC One and I have TWRP 2.6.3.3. Recently my phone's battery life has started to go down and I though I'll check the storage and what not, uninstall some apps im not using and some other stuff. It was then I found that my recovery was taking up in excess of 8GB ! I've backed up my phone using TWRP only a few times and each backup is taking up nearly 3GB of space.
I was wondering If I delete the previous backups and keep the current one (back it up on my PC)
