HTC Aria :: Some Useful Links
Jul 1, 2010
maybe we could compile some useful links and get one of the mods to sticky? one of the big things with the Aria seems to be removal of the 3rd party app install option. This is the workaround I used.Installing 3rd Party Apps - xda-developers.Tethering (does not require root) to download remove AT&T sim card and download from market over wifi (this method works for getting all non AT&T approved apps)Google Android Tethering Solution.

I just checked tonight, and the Aria is mysteriously missing from the HTC site. Are there plans to stop production? It's still available on the AT&T site.

I have installed Dolphin and like it, and I've made it my default browser, which is great. However, it is not only the system default, but it even opens links I click on in the Android provided browser (sometimes I both open). On your computer, when you click links in your non-default browser it doesn't send the links to the default one, and it shouldn't on this OS, either. Any ideas how to keep Dolphin as my system default browser, but not have it open links I click on in the Android web browser?

Does anyone else have an issue when the links stop working on the browser? They'll highlight like it's clicked on, but goes no where, not even a loading bar. Usually, killing the app or restarting the phone works, just annoying sometimes. Opening it into another window sometimes works, unless it thinks you're trying to copy/paste the text.

I've created a web view app, the page that is displayed features market:// links but upon clicking them I get the 404 screen along with the error that the protocol is not supported. I've tried looking through documentation but was unable to find anything relating to this.

It may be a low to mid level phone, but can anyone explain how that makes a difference on whether someone should buy the phone or not. Is there really anything that intensive that people would be running on their Android phone (except 3D games)?
What problems do you expect people to be having with the Aria because of this outdated processor and low resolution?

Does anyone know of a way to toggle on/off 3G? There is no 3G in my area quite yet (hoorah for living in the sticks).
Since there is no need for me to have the phone searching for 3G if it's not available. I tried to switch it off, however I can't find the setting. Has it been removed from the Aria?
I've gotten Curvefish's 2G/3G toggle widget, but no luck for me.

I was wondering if it is possible to hook into the gmail and email applications and check to see if it contains text that matches a regular expression, and if it does, make that text into a link with a URI that would open my application. What i am thinking of is similar to how the gmail application can detect a web address or phone number and make it a link. Is something like this possible?

I'm currently using the Ibox icons from the Market, but they look a little iPhone-esq to me, i'm looking for something new & unique.
Anyone have any links to icon packs that would be suitable?
I tried a pack from here: Royalty Free Icons & Clipart Stock Images ~ Icons Etc. but they all seemed small when on the phone.

When I receive a email either gmail or yahoo that has a link within it, for example a link to a thread I have subscribed to sometimes the link is blue and I can click on it to go directly to the site, BUT sometimes it is just like a maroon color. When it is maroon I can't click on it to go to the site/thread, when it is blue I can?

Got my EVO yesterday and this is my first post...so it might as well be a really dumb one I deleted that Sprint web links container (the one with CNN, Google, ESPN, etc)...it's the third screen to the right of the home screen...anyway, does anybody know how to get that back. I was trying to clean out the web links in there so I could put my own in, but accidentally dragged that entire container onto the delete spot.

I'm using HTC desire, I'm sorry if I haven't searched the forum enough.I'm wondering if there is ever a way to post a link in Facebook like how you do it on the full web site- when you click on "What's on your mind" a drop down of several icon appears and when you choose the "link" icon you can paste the URL there. The problem is that without that interface the URL messes up with the actual message you wanted to post (most of the time to explain the link you are posting).

When I click on an Internet link in an e-mail opened in K-9 that nothing happens. However, if I long press on it, I get the option "open for viewing" which will open it in Chrome.
Is there a way to set this association so that the link will automatically open in Chrome?

I'm having a small issue with Facebook on Android. However, I think it's an issue with Android itself, not the app. When I get an email from Facebook, and I click the link, my browser opens and takes to the Facebook page and asks me to log in. Why doesn't it open the link using my Facebook app? It doesn't even ask me which app to use, browser or Facebook (eg. if I have two different gallery apps, and I want to view a picture, it asks me which gallery app to use, and lets me set one as default at the same time). Is there any way to make Facebook links open the Facebook app, instead of launching the browser (or to have it ask me like it does with other apps)? The whole point of the Facebook app is so I don't need to use the browser to view Facebook.

sometimes i get a checkmark symbol right under the 3G or E on my Aria. i think it usually happens when i am connected to wi-fi, but there is no symbol like that in the manual saying what it is. if it's just for wi-fi, then thats kind of redundant since the wi-fi signal/symbol lets me know that
