Text message application for Android that will be non-intrusive. I am currently using Handscent SMS. It sucks when I am playing a game or watching a youtube video and someone sends me a message. It stops the game or pauses youtube.
My friend let me use his iphone for a few minutes the other day and I really like the way text messaging shows up. If in a game or watching a youtube video it just shows up at the top of the screen. The game and youtube video would continue without pausing. Then you can decide if you want to reply to the message or not. Any apps that have this sort of functionality?

I have noticed in the text message app if I create a new message and click the icon button next to enter recipient to choose a contact from my contacts there are contacts from just about everyone who has emailed me on my gmail account! This is not ideal at all.. I Would like just the contacts in my phone to be available. How do I remove all of those gmail contacts.

I think lots of people here hold back a little bit on how much data they expose to google. I have a specific question. When apps access address book, what address book are they accessing? The phone address book? What if it's a tablet, which has no address book, is it access your google contacts?

I have an account used specifically for playstore and my tablet and phone. I also access my personal gmail through my tablet or phone, using a different account. Does that mean that Angry Birds knows about both the account used by playstore AND my personal gmail account?

Sometimes when I receive messages it makes the notification sound and will show message in notification bar but the text of the message will not appear in the text thread. Used to happen every once in a while, now doing it multiple times a day. I use Handcent but I doubt that is the problem because the messages dont show up in the regular messaging either. Just want to see if i am alone with this problem.

I'm thinking of buying one of these on Orange. Does anyone know how intrusive the branding is? Orange are notorious for ruining handsets with their crap, so I'm wondering if they have done the same with the Galaxy. If so, does anyone know how easy it is to remove?

I've reached a point in my life right now where the only motivation to wake up is if someone sends me a text message.Is there any way or anything out there that will have an alarm (As in a wake up alarm) go off on my phone when I receive a text message.

Just switched from an iP4 wondering if there is anyway to replicate the iOS text shortcuts so that when you type 'omw' it auto expands that to 'on my way'? I'm demo'ing swiftkey 3 if there is an option to do so and I missed it. SGS3 if it matters, not rooted, using TW still.

Activity Text Messaging (in application Text Messaging) is not responding. I then get the option to force close or wait. I get this, which freezes my text messaging, every time I turn off my screen and then turn it back on to go to send a text. It's rather annoying, as it happens many times. I've read many other people having this problem, but their issue related to high volumes of stored texts. I deleted all mine, and the problem still persists. I turned off the phone and turned it back on, cleared the cache, and checked the task manager. I can't seem to find the issue. I have a Droid Pro running GB, and it happened just the other day. I only downloaded the Amazon Market App in the last few days I don't really want to download a free text app because I, personally, love the stock texting app.

This phone run Android ver. 4.0.3 with Kernel 3.0.13.
my phone come with 2.4GB and there is 2.11GB free.
I moved all the apps that can move to the SD Card.

I have a galaxy s 3 on sprint with cm10 installed. I use handcent for my text messages but obviously the standard messaging app is still installed and when I open it I can view all my text conversations going all the way back to when I got my phone.
How can I back these up in a text file or otherwise so I can store them on my laptop?

Today, one of my text message conversations showed an icon on the right hand side that I was unfamiliar with. It was right about the date/time stamp and looked like an x button. I was thinking maybe it meant the conversation had reached a limit because no matter how many additional texts I sent or received from this person, the number stayed the same (204). But when I restarted the phone, the icon had gone away and the number started increasing again.

I set my droid ringer volume to vibrate, how can I do the same for incoming text messages. As of now the phone vibrates on incoming calls and incoming text messages set to silent or says droid.

Ever since I did the update to Kit Kat or whatever it's called, I've had an issue.
It goes like this. I just received a text message from a 570 number. I click the notification, and it opens to a new text message draft. I click back, to go to my messages, and there's nothing there. Then I close the messaging app, and my text messaging widget has a little 1, signifying I have a text. I even delete all my text messages, and it's still there.
I do know people from the 570 area code, but why am I receiving ghost texts from them, and how do I fix it?

I just wanted to know how do you make a pop-up text/messag after the start up of an .APK like saying "created by blah blah blah" and then after that the app or game loads normally. Just something like would make the .APK made by you. I saw one of this in modded game, saying "mod made by ...." So yeah, that's it.

Someone send me a message text when my gadget is switched off. I swith it on and I receive the text. The time of it is not when it was sent but when i switched on the phone. With the old phones it did't happen.

I just dropped my Droid X and the screen is cracked and wont light up, now i understand that i'm going to need to get a new one really soon, but i've noticed that it stayed on for quite a while before it officially died and i realized that i wont be able to view the 20 or so messages that i received before it died.i have tried a bunch of ridiculous things (including watching a youtube video and trying to press the buttons along with him). Any app i can use on my computer to extract the messages? Oh, and my phone isn't rooted (I was waiting another month for the 1 year manufacturer warranty to expire.) It can still be used but i can't see where i'm selecting...

I have a Samsung Note 2 running 4.1.2.
Google recently updated Google Play and now does many of their basic function updates through Play instead of through Android releases. Since this has happened I now get unasked for and unwanted Google Play ads for aps that appear on their site randomly popping up on my phone - not from within running apps, but just on the phone itself. There seems to be no way to stop this callous disregard for Google customers' privacy and personal space. Why do they imagine that doing such things will make me want to respond to their advertisers. It makes me disregard the ads entirely. This policy is good for no one, customers, advertisers, Google or Android.
I don't mind ads appearing in free apps - that's why they are free, that's fine. But I didn't ask for this intrusion and interference when I bought the Android operating system on my phone. These ads interfere with running apps, like the phone app, or the alarm app. Google Play opens itself whenever the phone comes out of hibernation and displays a random app from the store, asking you to install it. When my alarm app goes off in the morning, instead of the screen with buttons to snooze or dismiss the alarm, I get the Google Play screen. When I finally get rid of that, the Alarm is nowhere to be seen, not even in the list of running apps behind the pull down screen, yet the alarm sound continues to go off the whole time. I have to go find the Alarm icon and open it again to turn the alarm off.
THIS IS AN INFURIATING example of the way Google treats their users. There seems to be no way to turn these Google Play ads off - Google Play is no longer an app and you can't treat it like other apps. There is no way to complain about it to Google. The Contact Us tab on the Google Play site is a joke and doesn't work.
HOW DO I GET RID OF THESE ANNOYING AND INTERFERING ADS?

I understand how to change icons, but for those icons that change due to a notification. Where and how do i provide a 2nd icons or a number status next to it similar to the originals?
Currently my icons are changed for text and email, however they do not change with the incoming.

I have an LG lucid.
It's my first smartphone (and touchscreen) Im not too familiar with any of the lingo that Im sure is needed to get my question answered, BUT...
My phone went through an update NOV 13th. When I woke up it was like having a new phone. Im comfortable with it now, but I dont really know what any of the icons that appear in my (text) message threads are.
I had a few red triangles with "!" exclamation points pop up. After some online research I found it to mean a message had not sent. I learned how to delete them and everything has been okay, no icons off to the side of message threads except the attachment paperclip. Until today. I was conversing back and forth with my dad via text. After I had sent my last message to him a blue box with a white 1 (one) in it came up next to the message thread. this box only appears when im in the message home screen, that shows all the message threads, not when that specific thread is open. Along with the box, at the top of the message screen, where it says "messages" with the "+" off to the right hand side there is a blue 1. Im sure its related to the blue box/white 1, considering it was not there prior.

Samsung double time and Motorola.
How do we set a text message ringtone? When we text, all we get is a goofy little chime and the phones vibrate. I'll never hear that thing in my purse.I went to settings>notifications and set a soundbite I want to use after transferring it to the media>notifications folder, and when I get e-mails, it worked. But not for texting.
Also, what forum do I use for the double time? What is rooting, and do we need to do it? We got the phones through AT&T and they work fine so far. Also, we have wifi at home- does that still count against our 3g plan when we're using that to access the market while trying to figure this out?

I have the Motorola Razor Maxx on the Verizon network. Recently have received text messages I could not download. doesn't state why just "message size: 30KB" ask if I want to download or reject. When I try to download I get the same message "failed to download" is there a setting to change file sizes allowed or something else I'm missing.
