View 3 RepliesI have a galaxy s2 and after I installed costom roms I dont have any signal what so ever.
I tried with like 3 roms and the same result.
I tought it was a modem problem and I tried to install some modems and see if that works. But it didnt.
My Service State says Out of service and sometimes it says Radio off.
I am currently working on a project which requires a server to request data from the devices which are currently connected to the server. Meaning, first the server finds out which devices are connected to the server and then sends an application specific message to the client device which should wake certain functionality present on the client, like for example send out its current location.
I was looking into XMPP service which looked promising since it works as a PUSH notification. The <presence> in XMPP can be used to check if the device is currently connected and has subscribed to the server. Since every android user has a gmail account, I was thinking of using the gmail xmpp service to connect /subscribe to the server. Then send specific message to the client, i.e x...@gmail.com. But if a message is sent this way the client app gets the message as well as the native gtalk client. So how do I go about intercepting this so that it doesn't show up on the gtalk client but my app still gets it.
I use Microsoft Outlook 2007 as my MAIN email and calendaring software. I will be accessing my mail and calendar via Outlook on my office PC for the vast majority of time.
My main email accounts are currently configured as POP3 but are also configured to leave copies of messages on the server for 30 days, which allows me to check new messages via my ISPs webmail when out of the office.
I have considered changing to IMAP for my main email account but have purposely avoided it up to now as I have a huge number of mail folders and messages my Outlook pst file is currently 7.2GB. A lot of those are for archive reference and I dont need to see them on other devices BUT, as I understand it, IMAP does not let me only select certain folders to mirror and sync between different devices (it must sync all of them) so I feel it would be unwieldy to use IMAP on my account. (If anyone knows of a way to set IMAP to only include specific folders please let me know!).
I do have a Google Mail account already, but rarely use it its just there as a back-up account. Ive NOT as yet imported my Outlook contacts or calendar into my Google account.
Now I know that I can use HTC Sync to sync up my Contacts and Calendar, but what Ive read suggests that the phone works best when you sync it with your Google account. I COULD of course import my Outlook Contacts and Calendar into my Google account, and I COULD also use my Gmail account to check mail from my main POP3 accounts. However, Im unsure about going down that route as Im worried that might confuse things, cause conflicts, or cause double-work for me when I update my contacts or calendar from Outlook or from Google. Are there possible problems with going down that route?
Secondly, Im very intrigued to have read that Gmail is more efficient for the phone as Ive read it works as a push email service. That is, I dont need to check my mail by doing a send/receive from my phone either manually or automatically at set intervals, but that Gmail will just automatically PUSH new emails to my phone as soon as they arrive. Is that correct?
If it is correct it sounds good, but does that mean my phone must be or will be permanently connected to the net? As I dont use my mobile that much Im on a Pay-As You-Go service so need to ensure my phone is ONLY connecting to a data connection when I need it to. Will I be able to work-around this?
I know HTC Sync doesn't transfer Outlook Notes or Tasks. Has anyone found, or can recommend, an app that will do that for me?
What's "Google service framework"?
If I remove this system app, which part of android will not work?

I just got my Galaxy S4 today, and decided to turn off Wi-Fi so I can see if 3G works. I have a bunch of bars, but every time i try to use something that requires an internet connection, the phone says im not connected. I dont even see a menu to turn on 4g and 3g like my Evo 3D had.

1. when i turn the wifi on, it gives me fail to obtain IP, and at the same the mobile service detected my Mobile Network (Rogers) for moment then it turns to No service for few moment to come back to Rogers an other time and so on( like infinity loop between Service detected and No service).
2. usually when i turn off the WIFI, the phone goes to look for 4G network but this doesn't happen now, and still Mobile Service between detected and Not.
3. What has been said until now is with SIM card On. and i tried to take it out the phone and turn the phone on, and the same problem is still with Mobile Network service but now the infinity look (as I like to call it) is between No service and Insert Sim card, at the same time can't access to the WIFI (Fail to obtain IP).
i have tried several thing to solve problem : like changing the SIM card, Reset phone to factory setting, turn it off for while and open it, but the problem still excite.
it seems that it is software problem but i don't know which process responsible of Network Service setting (WIFI, 4G, GSM) so i can stop it and lunch it again.
I have the samsung galaxy s2. The service keeps cutting in and out when it comes to texting and calls. I don't get texts until hours after and my friends don't get my texts until hours after or they aren't in order. Anyway to improve the service strength?

I installed the new version of ADWLauncher from the marketplace a few days ago. I have problems with the Galaxy shutting down the launcher while I'm in a game or app. I have to wait about 15 secs for it to auto-reload after hitting the home button. Is there anyway I can just push ADWLauncher 1.0 to the phone (an APK) or am I stuck with the Market version?

Looking at my screen, the 3G icon in the notification bar is constanlty changing between a 3G and H and the arrows are lighting up all the time. I don't receive to many emails (between 1 and 5 an hour)
I have recently flashed to JM5 and have only had that problem since comming to0 JM5. I have tried to different tricks for restting the battery stats and calabrating the battery but nothing really works.
Been lurking all over google, and the forums but to no avail. Is there solutions to receiving push notifications for facebook on SGS? I've set my settings to receive notifications, but so far I've set my notifications to come to my email. I've heard from someone that google and facebook are having some sort of differences. Anyone have any solutions?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm looking at 3 different apps to develop for the Android, but I'm new to the platform (come over from Blackberry - yuck!).
Anyhow - I need to know if there is some way to push data to the phone from a server. I'd prefer to avoid using SMS to push (user charges), or constantly polling the server (lets see, every 5 seconds = 12 times a minute, 720 times an hour, over 17000 a day)
I recently bought an unlocked international version of samsung galaxy S GT-i9000. I was able to use it with at&t sim card quite happily till now. Even the 3g worked on it. But from yesterday the at&t service keeps disconnecting after using for few hours. The network bars at the top right disappear and a blue disconnected sign appears. I cannot make a call or receive a call till I reboot my phone. In settings->about phone I see that the "Service" shows "Not in Service". When I reboot it gets back to "In Service". My unlocked phone boots with T-mobile preset settings - is this problem because of that?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a strange problem with Push email on my HTC Desire. I can set this up no problem - email comes in but only manually. I cannot get the push to actually work. When I go into the send receive schedule I can set up the days/hours for peak off peak and push but regardless of what I set these to be, when I go back to the previous screen it always says the Schedule is Manual. I've tried setting up lots of variations from manual through timed to push but still the same. Net result is push never seems to happen - manual overrides my schedule. To pick up email I have to go into email and do a manual sync.
View 15 Replies View RelatedWe've had some people develop and application for us. For now, our application uses static data that requires a manual update each time this data changes. Our plan in the future is to have this data updated automatically the instant this new data is available.
For now, is there a way like through some online cloud that I can link the application to? So, that way when I put the data online in this service thing, the application whenever it has a data connection or Wi-Fi pulls the new data?
For the future, what's the best way to set up this automated updates?
When trying to print from my stock device, I noticed that it was only willing to print to a Samsung printer. As the title suggests, the only printer available to me is an HP printer. And, as you may have guessed, the printer has ePrint.
I know HP has an ePrint app and Google has Cloud Print, which can both be used to print to the printer, but I don't want to have to go open an app every time I want to print something. I should be able to print something right from the app I'm using.
I have an FTP server that I want my android to AUTOMATICALLY PULL from once new files are placed there. This is essentially setting up an FTP PULL system. PUSH would be great too but not as important to me.
Any apps that could do this, or hacks to make it happen?
I play on tribal wars game and the problem with this game that anyone can attack you anytime and you need to react very quickly.there is an android beta version of the game which gives you notification.is there any way to make the phone alert or play a ringtone or idk if a given app gives push notification?
View 9 Replies View Relatedany Android device I had had never really has had good push notifications. Basically, it is hit or miss, mostly a miss. Various apps I never seem to get notifications, such as the eBay app. Notifications are enabled and it seems like they only work if I am actually in the app, but if it is not open, no notifications. Or same with Words with Friends, it pretty much never sends me a notification and when it does, it could take 30 minutes for it to show up while my iPhone would show up immediately. Even when using the Lumia 920 for a few weeks, the notifications came through with out delay.
View 2 Replies View RelatedASAP, as my device is currently in a bootloop because a boot animation app didn't work as well as I thought it would and my Dell Streak 7 will not boot up.
The device does still respond to adb commands, so there's a chance at saving it.Unfortunately, I cannot get adb push to work, it says no permission when I try to do:
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
It says permission denied. I either need to know how to get adb push working or how to COMPLETELY reset the tablet, including all the system files such as bootanimation.zip.
I've been slackin' on the updates of my rom lately and thought it was finally time to do a proper update. I got my HTC one in the US around release and rooted it back then. However, now I was trying to install Android Revolution on it and the installation went fine (well, at least so I thought) up until the time I was going to boot it. It constantly keeps on re-booting me into the TWRP menu, even though the rom seems to be installed.
I was looking around and found out about ADP push [URL] However, I get stuck on the step where I'm supposed to get up my Serial number in the terminal. It seems as if the command runs through but comes up with nothing, just a blank space. At first I simply ignored this and moved on to the next step. However, my computer doesn't seem to acknowledge the command ./adb push NameOfRom.zip /data/media/. Where do I go from here?
Recently I pull down the source code for Koushik Dutta's Superuser app. I made some changes in the source. This changes are the following:
1. SuHelper class now throws 2 kind of exceptions instead of one generic instance of Exception. I believe it is better for developing. Different exceptions, different reasons, different action to do when they are catched.
2. Fixes for several Lint's warnings.
3. Fixes in translation.
4. UI new features:
a) At the first screen you can long click at an item several actions are shown ("Allow/Deny" which changes the permission without deleting the permission, "Revoke permission", "Details" leads to the same screen as a simple click oat an item).
b) At the details screen for every item/application and new checkbox/switch added to allow/deny superuser permission.
c) At settings screen miscellaneous settings added which refer to the pop-up dialog about the outdated su binary.
see the attached photos from the modified application.
I would like to ask 2 questions now:
1. Do you think that these changes are useful to you?
2. Should I pull the current HEAD of the from the repository or simply commit and push my changes?
Last week I was in the US and had gotten the AT&T pay-as-you-go sim. It charges 1c/kb and I thought that's not too bad since I *only* get outlook and yahoo email. Well, *before* I knew it, it sucked up $14.40 for internet access....Frantically called AT&T customer service and after a long wait, they told me that my device had access the service and downloaded 1.5Mb! I asked them if there was a way to turn off the GPRS(since I was mostly interested in their $2/day unlimited calling service) and they said they don't have a way to turn it off Tried a bunch of things like turning off auto-sync (in settings) etc...but STILL I ended up paying $40 by the end of the day!!
Is their a way to turn off GPRS completely and also monitor what applications are accessing the service? All I have to go by is what AT&T says at the website!
For awhile, my Facebook push notifications were working just fine until I had updated to Jelly Bean. I tried everything.. to clearing cache, data, uninstalling, and even the BlackBerry trick again (worked once before) and couldn't for the life of me figure out why they weren't working anymore. I thought maybe it was Facebook clashing with JB. I read everywhere and found out some people had no issues and some had some where every push notifications didn't work and some just Facebook.
Well I spend a day or so trying to figure it out and finally found a new, simple fix.
1) Open the Facebook app.
2) Tap on menu button on the top left
3) Account > Account Settings
4) Apps and Websites
5) Clear out Facebook related apps (Like Friendcaster or HTC Sense)
6) Clear data on the Facebook app and launch app
I noticed some off the apps in there have a push notification toggle button and I believe it was messing up the push notification system of there was to many to keep up with.
Once I spent 20 mins clearing those apps out, I cleared data and started the app notifications started working again. I didn't know it worked until someone wrote on my wall and I was shocked to see a notification!

I am having this error "device not found" when I try to push a file. It's not a driver problem, it's not a USB connection problem. ADB commands work until the point where I try to push the file. Then I see "device not found".
I might be doing something wrong, I'm pretty new at this stuff. Or it might be just that the root access to my device has problems.
Here's what I do:
Code:
c:adb>adb devices
List of devices attached
3556*********09 device
c:adb>adb shell
shell@android:/ $ su
su
[Code] .....
I've also tried to push "build.prop" directly from my computer but get the same error.
I must mention that - strangely (to me at least) - after mounting /system as RW, I check the permissions using ES File Explorer's Root Explorer, they are shown as RW, I try to edit "build.prop" directly and I still get "cannot save file".
When I try to change permissions of the file using Total Commander -- to -rw-rw-rw -- I manage to do this ("Operation successful") but I am still unable to edit the file or overwrite it.
The problem I'm experiencing is that I am not receiving push notifications of any kind while my phone is locked/sleeping (screen off) on my wifi network at work.
My home wifi network and mobile connection have no such problems, i get the notifications instantly. My wifi is set to never sleep.
I do get the notifications a couple of seconds after I unlock my phone though. Not very useful because I have to keep checking my phone.
Not sure if this has anything to do with it but my home network is WEP secured and work is WPA/WPA2 secured.
For some reason on my Nexus 5 running Liquidsmooth AOSP, I can not receive any GCM push notifications. My push notifications work fine on stock. This is happening for apps like instagram, twitter, snapchat, etc. It only appears to happen when my phone in deep sleep, when the screen is off for roughly 5+ minutes. I have tried PNF, different gapps, different kernels. Also on a clean install of course.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI understand that the sync switch in the power control widget has effect only on google services (email, calendar, tasks, browser, play books, etc.) while it has no effect on facebook/twitter/whatsapp push notifications: for the latter I need to enable/disable inside the apps. Correct?
If that's so, I am looking for an tasker-like app that allows me the following:
every time I push a dedicated icon on the homescreen or I am connected to the home wifi, disable google sync, disable facebook/twitter push notifications and enable whatsapp notifications
Would that be possible? I understand that tasker (and other similar apps) cannot do the facebook/twitter/whatsapp part. correct?
