General :: How To Push Information To App

We've had some people develop and application for us. For now, our application uses static data that requires a manual update each time this data changes. Our plan in the future is to have this data updated automatically the instant this new data is available.
For now, is there a way like through some online cloud that I can link the application to? So, that way when I put the data online in this service thing, the application whenever it has a data connection or Wi-Fi pulls the new data?
For the future, what's the best way to set up this automated updates?

I need some advices about the Android OS and application.i wonder if the Android OS is able to push network connecting status to applications.(I found applications can get a network connecting status from android OS. But I can't find reverse cases.)However, I am thinking android OS may push network connecting status to applications.when application is installed on android os, is it possible to register something for monitoring phone's network status on android os.Because I want my application can receive phone's network status from android os.(not by asking directly to android os.) I am a Mac user (photographer/ videographer). I also rely heavily on my iPod Touch when mobile (i can often find a wifi signal when i am out and about). I use iCal on the Touch and iCal on my Mac as well as the address book on both everyday and as a Mobile Me user, my two devices sync so everything is mirrored and up to date. I also HATE AT&T for their terrible signal strength and coverage and have been a loyal Verizon customer for many years and this is why I don't have an iPhone. Okay, all that being said, is there an easy way to still use everything I love and rely on with my Mac (the calender and address book, mainly) and easily sync all of my existing information and future info to an Android based device? How easy is it to use an Android device with a Mac? I don't want to have to manually re-enter my entire address book into a new device.

I'm looking at 3 different apps to develop for the Android, but I'm new to the platform (come over from Blackberry - yuck!).
Anyhow - I need to know if there is some way to push data to the phone from a server. I'd prefer to avoid using SMS to push (user charges), or constantly polling the server (lets see, every 5 seconds = 12 times a minute, 720 times an hour, over 17000 a day)

In my application, I want to collect the surrounding cell ID and LAC on my Android phone (to estimate the location).I use the telephonyManager.getNeighboringCellInfo() function which returns a list of NeighboringCellInfo.
If the phone has enabled the option "use only 2G networks" I receive the correct list but if this option is not enabled (connecting also on 3G networks), the NeighboringCellInfo has "-1" for cell ID and LAC for the whole list.
why 3G networks provides less information than 2G ? Is there some technical reason ? Can I still get the cell details on 3G ?

I am recently doing a graduate research on the accelerometer in mobile devices. Accelerometer is a MEMs device built in almost every smart phone nowadays. I am interested in finding what information does the hardware accelerometer report that the software knows the raw values X, Y, Z to detect the orientation in which the phone is held?

I love weather apps, but I've yet to find one that I really like that much. A lot of them are pretty good, some have this function or that function but none of them seem to have everything.
Anyway, years ago I used an app called PocketWeather on Windows Mobile and used a skin called Wonder Skin. It looked like this:
Notably it has humidity, pressure, forecast, current conditions (inc wind), temperature graph etc.. It had everything at a glance, I rarely needed to look into the app at all for this.
Most weather apps I can find today just have some current info, mostly seem to be clock widgets + some weather info.
Any weather widgets with more details on them? I don't really want to get into the complexities of making my own with something like UCCW but I'm pondering it.

How can i get device information from nonrooted device with python script? As I understand python don't have API like os.android.build in Java.
I need to get system information from device, such as cpu frequencies, gpu vendor and other (like in Antutu and another benchmarks).
I know how to write python script with $getprop information from shell, and from buil.prop file in the system files, but it isn't enough. I also know how to get these information with shell command and busybox installed, but I shouldn't root them.

I am in process of developing an application and I was wondering if there is a way to capture users information automatically. I am drawing up a spec of application functions that I am going to have a dev team produce so I do not have app dev skillsets. That being said...
My idea was that if an user downloads an application, starts it, and the app is automatically populated with the users' phone number, name, etc any basic information automatically. Google pairs the phone with specific accounts that store such information so the data is there. I am looking for a less intrusive way and more user friendly way of creating accounts rather than direct social media login integration.
Is this something that is viable? or is it against data laws? or not possible?

the play store spits this error at me constantly. It happens when i download apps from the play store. It says "Error retrieving information from the server [RPC:S-5:AEC-0]". Just to clarify, things I've already tried: wiping data of play store and play service frameworks, wiping dalvik and cache, deleting my host file and readding my Google account. I've added another account and it downloaded apps flawllessly so it must be my main google account.

i have a motorola razr.and now using it with an aosp rom(4.2.2) i was using china jb(4.1.2) and that rom has an app called quicknotes.its china jb's stock app but really awesome. anyhow when i tried to push that app into system/app on 4.2.2, change permissions to -rw -r-r and reboot nothing changes. how to make it work on 4.2.2 system? URL....

I have a strange problem with Push email on my HTC Desire. I can set this up no problem - email comes in but only manually. I cannot get the push to actually work. When I go into the send receive schedule I can set up the days/hours for peak off peak and push but regardless of what I set these to be, when I go back to the previous screen it always says the Schedule is Manual. I've tried setting up lots of variations from manual through timed to push but still the same. Net result is push never seems to happen - manual overrides my schedule. To pick up email I have to go into email and do a manual sync.

i try to dev an app like system contacts and it should read the information of sim card . in China , many android phone hold dual sim cards , while it seems that the current android os just supports the api to get only one sim card info.
How an app to get all the information of the dual sims ? i know some apps like Multi-Sim ,QQContact can do it ,but how can they do it ?

When using my sms app, I am looking for a way to display which phone number of my contact is used (mobile, work, home, ...)
The only thing showed is the contact name and his phone number.
With all the sms apps I've tried (stock, hangouts, hello sms, 8sms, evolvesms, chomp, handcent), I didn't find a way to display this information. I always have to do an extra action (clik on contact photo, or title bar) to check if the phone number concerned is 'work' or 'mobile'.
Any tip or a new app to show this info ?

I have an FTP server that I want my android to AUTOMATICALLY PULL from once new files are placed there. This is essentially setting up an FTP PULL system. PUSH would be great too but not as important to me.

any Android device I had had never really has had good push notifications. Basically, it is hit or miss, mostly a miss. Various apps I never seem to get notifications, such as the eBay app. Notifications are enabled and it seems like they only work if I am actually in the app, but if it is not open, no notifications. Or same with Words with Friends, it pretty much never sends me a notification and when it does, it could take 30 minutes for it to show up while my iPhone would show up immediately. Even when using the Lumia 920 for a few weeks, the notifications came through with out delay.

ASAP, as my device is currently in a bootloop because a boot animation app didn't work as well as I thought it would and my Dell Streak 7 will not boot up.
The device does still respond to adb commands, so there's a chance at saving it.Unfortunately, I cannot get adb push to work, it says no permission when I try to do:
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
It says permission denied. I either need to know how to get adb push working or how to COMPLETELY reset the tablet, including all the system files such as bootanimation.zip.

I've been slackin' on the updates of my rom lately and thought it was finally time to do a proper update. I got my HTC one in the US around release and rooted it back then. However, now I was trying to install Android Revolution on it and the installation went fine (well, at least so I thought) up until the time I was going to boot it. It constantly keeps on re-booting me into the TWRP menu, even though the rom seems to be installed.
I was looking around and found out about ADP push [URL] However, I get stuck on the step where I'm supposed to get up my Serial number in the terminal. It seems as if the command runs through but comes up with nothing, just a blank space. At first I simply ignored this and moved on to the next step. However, my computer doesn't seem to acknowledge the command ./adb push NameOfRom.zip /data/media/. Where do I go from here?

Recently I pull down the source code for Koushik Dutta's Superuser app. I made some changes in the source. This changes are the following:
1. SuHelper class now throws 2 kind of exceptions instead of one generic instance of Exception. I believe it is better for developing. Different exceptions, different reasons, different action to do when they are catched.
2. Fixes for several Lint's warnings.
3. Fixes in translation.
4. UI new features:
a) At the first screen you can long click at an item several actions are shown ("Allow/Deny" which changes the permission without deleting the permission, "Revoke permission", "Details" leads to the same screen as a simple click oat an item).
b) At the details screen for every item/application and new checkbox/switch added to allow/deny superuser permission.
c) At settings screen miscellaneous settings added which refer to the pop-up dialog about the outdated su binary.

I would like to ask 2 questions now:
1. Do you think that these changes are useful to you?
2. Should I pull the current HEAD of the from the repository or simply commit and push my changes?

Isn't there a way I can get contact information I find on the web into my Android phone book without having to pull out my phone and typing it in by hand?
I thought there was a way, maybe I had to add something to my computer where I could type highlight the name, address and phone number, right click up a menu and have it all added to my phone book.

For awhile, my Facebook push notifications were working just fine until I had updated to Jelly Bean. I tried everything.. to clearing cache, data, uninstalling, and even the BlackBerry trick again (worked once before) and couldn't for the life of me figure out why they weren't working anymore. I thought maybe it was Facebook clashing with JB. I read everywhere and found out some people had no issues and some had some where every push notifications didn't work and some just Facebook.
Well I spend a day or so trying to figure it out and finally found a new, simple fix.
1) Open the Facebook app.
2) Tap on menu button on the top left
3) Account > Account Settings
4) Apps and Websites
5) Clear out Facebook related apps (Like Friendcaster or HTC Sense)
6) Clear data on the Facebook app and launch app
I noticed some off the apps in there have a push notification toggle button and I believe it was messing up the push notification system of there was to many to keep up with.
Once I spent 20 mins clearing those apps out, I cleared data and started the app notifications started working again. I didn't know it worked until someone wrote on my wall and I was shocked to see a notification!

I am having this error "device not found" when I try to push a file. It's not a driver problem, it's not a USB connection problem. ADB commands work until the point where I try to push the file. Then I see "device not found".
I might be doing something wrong, I'm pretty new at this stuff. Or it might be just that the root access to my device has problems.
Here's what I do:

I've also tried to push "build.prop" directly from my computer but get the same error.
I must mention that - strangely (to me at least) - after mounting /system as RW, I check the permissions using ES File Explorer's Root Explorer, they are shown as RW, I try to edit "build.prop" directly and I still get "cannot save file".
When I try to change permissions of the file using Total Commander -- to -rw-rw-rw -- I manage to do this ("Operation successful") but I am still unable to edit the file or overwrite it.
