Mar 14, 2013I think lots of people here hold back a little bit on how much data they expose to google. I have a specific question. When apps access address book, what address book are they accessing? The phone address book? What if it's a tablet, which has no address book, is it access your google contacts?

May 3, 2012I'm backing up things with TB every time I update/change ROMs. But last time I didn't want to restore everything and forgot to restore the call logs. Now I have a backup with the old call logs and the new call logs. Is there a way to restore the old call logs without deleting the current ones?
Maybe I could backup the current logs too, restore the old ones, make a backup with another app, restore the new logs and do an incremental backup with that app and then restore everything... But I don't know of any app that can do incremental backups to call logs.

I'd like to be able to provide an "Upload Logs" button that allows the users of my app to upload their logs if they are encountering issues with the app. I know I can write my logs to my own file and provide an upload for that, but I like the context provided by the system logs interspersed with my log entries to understand what else is going on on the device when my app has issues.

Oct 9, 2013I deleted my call logs Monday. I needed space on my phone. Didn't think I'd need those logs anymore. But we were expecting mail (snail) from a travel company through which we are taking a trip to Oregon and it hasn't come. We don't know their name (forgot) but I had a call from them and made a call to them a week or four before I cleared the call logs. If there was any way to get them back, I could get their number.
My carrier is Solavei (on the T-Mobile network) and they do not yet have detailed call logs to see in Activity online and it's all online. I can't use them to find the number.

Nov 23, 2013I've tested two Voice to SMS Apps (Text By Voice, and Voice Text). The latter uses Google Voice Search for speech recognition. When I have a hands free bluetooth kit in my car connected, both apps listen through the microphone in the phone, not the hands free mic. This leads me to believe this may be an O/S limitation with Android 4.1.1 (I'm running on a Samsung S3). Can confirm that only the Phone app can use the hands free mic. Otherwise, it seems very odd/coincidental BOTH of these apps fail to use the hands free mic like the Phone app does.

Jan 8, 2012I purchased a Chinese Android mobile which has the MTK6573 chipset. It is called a Star A3.
Love the phone however I regularly see the alert/error "Restricted access changed" in the status bar and the signal drops off both SIMS. If I pull down the status bar and check details it says "Voice call service blocked".
What is interesting is that it is always the Vodafone NZ SIM card even if I swap cards between SIM slots. Other SIM is 2Degrees.
I've searched the internet but there seems very little info on this subject other than to say that some HD9 users have had the same issue and have Spice Mi 350n users.
It could be a IMEI issue but I'm not so sure.
I've turned off my SIM data connection which was linked to my 2Degrees SIM and now both SIMS manifest the same error. If I re-enable data on the 2Degrees SIM only the Vodafone SIM gives the error ***
General :: Free Ram 0.0 Bytes Android 4.1.2 - Low Memory Msg For All Apps / Frequent Crash
Sep 1, 2013I bought iball andi 5li android smart phone a few days back. The configuration of the phone is:
512mb ram
4gb internal
1.2ghz cortex a9 processor
android 4.1.2
Although my device runs almost every app out there (including temple run, subway surfers etc.) but occasionally im facing problems.
Problem occurs after 3-4 days of restarting the phone. When i restart and check the ram usage it says 350 mb (approx) as used and 150mb(approx) as free ram every app runs smoothly but as days pass by gradually the free ram starts decreasing down to 30 mb where all the apps (games and browsers) start crashing with a low memory message. then the conditions get worse after approx 2 hrs free ram is now 0.0 bytes and even the launcher,settings etc crash with a low memory message. The only solution out is to restart the phone.
[used androids before and is quite aware of closing or killing apps but none is working]
Already Tried:
# removing apps from recent list
# stopping apps from Setting>apps>running apps & cached apps as well
# restoring to factory defaults
# used ram freeing apps (no change on ram)

I see my HTC notices it recovered from an abnormal reset for instance, and asks to send logging to HTC HQ, so there seems to be ways that could tell more what is causing trouble?
