General :: Flash Kernel Without Unlocking Bootloader?

just as the title said what happens if you flash kernel without unlocking bootloader?
My android is rooted and sim-unlocked by Omnius.
I manually installed ClockworkMod Recovery. (to do this I had to remount the /system folder as rw, don't know if this is important, but wasn't in the installation instructions).
PC companion says my firmware is the lastest
I want flash this kernel. I think I can't unlock my bootloader...
I followed this guide to unlock the bootloader, using FlashTool or msm7227_omniusSL.cmd. Both processes complete without errors... But when I check with s1tool, the erom version has an uppercase "R".
When I try to flash, FlashTool throws the error:
Code:
06/056/2012 20:56:22 - ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="SECURITY_CLASS";ERR_DYNAMIC="SIN header verification failed"
Here are my s1tool and FlashTool logs:
s1tool:
Code:

Both BL unlocking methods were repeted several times, with equal logs...
since I own a Neo V which is locked, and the service menu in the phone says that the Bootloader cannot be unlocked. if I unlock my SIM lock(probably with TurboSIM, since thats the cheapest solution), would that enable me to unlock my bootloader, and start the real modifying of my phone?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi want to know if it's possible to root an Android without unlocking the bootloader. My problem is I don't want anything wiped off the phone. I'm trying to get past the lock screen, because I found this phone in the street, so I want to get the numbers in it to try and return it. I've heard you can bypass the lockscreen if it's rooted. It's a Samsung Galaxy S Mesmerize, (or Fascinate).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI successfully unlocked the bootloader on my xperia x8 via flashtool put on custom kernel nAa 14 and miniCM7 Yay.Everything is fine apart that I want to change network because they have much better deals etc.I went to the 3 network shop and tried to put in the Sim, it took it in loaded but wouldnt register with the network , in fact I tried last week when I was on stock kernel and gingerxperia and it asked for ''unlock code'', today it didn't ask for unlock code took it in but wont register.I guess there must be some sim lock or something.
Maybe it is unlocked but something to do with Radio pehaps nonetheless my current Network works fine.here's my S1 LOG if any good. after unlocking BL of course

So i was told that unlocking the bootloader breaks DRM(wildvine).
How is the DRM tied to the bootloader? With android being open source how is this not easily bypassed?
I have a HTC Incredible S with android 4.0.4 and I would like to unlock bootloader. I have 2 questions :
- Is that "unlock bootloader" mean "root" ?
- Is that this method will erase all the data in my phone ?
I want to install Cyanogen 11 in my xperia sp, but we have to unlock the bootloader first unlocking bootloader will result in permanent loss of Bravia engine 2.
But we can backup the Bravia engine 2 by backing up TA, but for backing the TA we need to root the phone, for rooting the phone we need to unlock the bootloader.
I have a problem with my LG optimus 4XHD. I didn't like the 4.1.2 lg skinned android so i wanted to install a custom rom. I started by rooting my phone that worked but then i flashed clockworkmod recovery without unlocking the bootloader. Now i can't enter my recovery anymore but i can still boot into android. Now my question is: Can i still unlock the bootloader now without bricking my phone?

I can still put it in download mode, and tried to install it the correct way but that doesn't matter.

Ok, I posted this on my Google Groups page where I was able to Tidy it up and update it easier. Sources credited and applied. I did this on 2 N1's. No wiping, no data loss, both T-Mobile with FRF91. No data loss, no wipes, no nothing. The only reason you will have to wipe or anything is if you want to put a custom recovery on it and a custom ROM.

Now that the mempodroid hack based on the memory leak discovered by Aedla has been blocked (since about kernel 2.6.42, and android 4.0.3), are there any remaining ways of getting root access without re-flashing the bootloader? Alternatively, any pointers to how I would find (or build) a bootloader for a tablet based on rockchip RK29 board (for which I'm unlikely to be able to get detailed documentation)? Or is there any way to downgrade the kernel without root access?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI rooted my S3 a few months ago based on some detailed instructions found online - no issues. The method used involved clockwork mod or some such.I was following these URL....
instructions to attempt to install liquid smooth (URL...) ROM. I had backed up everything on titanium backup and using the back up in ROM manager. In step 3.1, "flash a recovery image," I didn't think I needed to do this, as I thought it was a part of ROM manager.I proceeded onward, and after the phone finished making a back up, immediately after it started to install the new ROM, the screen went black (I assume the phone turned off).
I'm currently unable to get it to turn on at all, taking the battery out didn't do anything, and when I plug it into the comp via USB, it doesn't seem to recognize the device.I'm a broke med student on loans, and a new phone is going to hurt the bank account a lot.
1. Can recovery flash bootloader?
From this link====>[URL] ....., I think it can do that. But I'm not sure.
2. Can recovery flash recovery partition itself?
I think it can not do this. Not confirm that.
3. We know in update.zip, boot.img is corresponding boot partition, but why system is a folder, not system.img? There is a system partition also.
4. While OTA upgrade system, why the update package downloaded under /cache path? Can we change it to sdcard?
5. Most important, what exactly update-script do things under recovery mode? How the command executed?
BTW, there are other questions, but not related to Recovery Mode.
1. How can I see the flash partitions? I know to use the command cat /proc/mtd, but as Samsung, it use emmc flash, while I type that command, no results printed. How to see?
2. About userdata partition, we know that when first run android OS, system will copy files from /system to /data, but does it do it every time that we turn on the phone or just do it once after the first booting after we update our system?
I have an AT&T SGS4 with a melted USB port so there is no way for me to use fastboot or Odin to flash bootloaders, etc. Is it possible to flash a Samsung factory bootloader through recovery?
What I am trying to accomplish:
I am on Touchwiz 4.3 and the 4.4.2 KK release was leaked in our forum. I used the dsixda kitchen to break it down and made a ROM out of it that successfully flashed in recovery but kernel panics at the AT&T splash boot screen because the RAMdisk doesn't match the bootloader version. So I need to upgrade the bootloader to the 4.4.2 version so it will boot.
I unpacked the RAMdisk and there is nothing in any of the init.xx files that points to the bootloader. I even used a hex editor to look at the init binary which references the bootloader but there was nothing in there that I could change (from what I saw).
I am using Xperia neo V that is running on ics 4.0.4.
Recently I rooted my phone without unlocking bootloader.
Now I need to flash custom rom on to my rooted device with locked bootloader. How can I do it?
I have a phone called Y9190 that suddenly turned off and will not turn back on. I tried to flash it with flashtool, but the program sends me this error:
"Boot Loader does not exist on NAND / eMMC flash! Please download bootloader first."
At this point, I do not know how to go forward. The flashtool drivers are installed correctly and the rom is the right one.
Are there other ways to flash a recovery with a locked bootloader?
My Problems:
I can't flash my stock recovery through fastboot with a locked bootloader.
I can't boot into my recovery because my current recovery is TWRP 2.5.0.1 and I have a locked bootloader.
I can't unlock my bootloader because I have used an IMEI Hack Tool and set my IMEI to 0 (I guess).
I can't boot into my ROM because I used an IMEI Hack Tool.
I can't Force Upgrade too (Vol Up + Down + Power). It only shows a pink/purple screen.
Solutions:
I can only flash a recovery with an unlocked bootloader.
I can only boot into a recovery with an unlocked bootloader (except for stock).
I can only unlock bootloader if my IMEI has restored.
I can only restore my IMEI if I can boot into my ROM.
I can only boot into my ROM if I have a stock recovery.
I can only Force Upgrade if I have restored my IMEI.
If I could only restore my IMEI through fastboot,
unable to flash a kernel through fastboot it's showing the device is not rooted, but in flash tool it's showing the device is rooted, even all the applications are showing root is allowed but when i'm going to flash the kernel through fastboot its showing device is not rooted...

Meanwhile, I've managed to root my Samsung Galaxy Y pro Duos (GT-B5512) and, recently, wanted to make something to "boost up the phone", as I'm having a problem with a missing original rom app. So... as I have to flash a new ROM, and I was thinking:
I don't know how to flash a new ROM, and I don't wanna risk making a brick f my phone. I've been reading a lot about some custom ROMs for Galaxy Y Pro Duos, but some doubts remain:
1) I've read about a compact Kernel for this phone. Should I update/ change the kernet?
2) Should I try to restore the stock ROM? Or should I go for one of the two custom ROMs I've found for B5512?
What are the advantages of putting these custom ROMs?
3) (1st kernet then ROM?) What should I do to the phone so it doesn't reboot twice a day, as it is rebooting nowadays?
how to root and flash it??? I buy it and i would like to install JellyBean 4.1
