General :: Change AOSP UI Volume Up / Down Sounds?
Nov 27, 2011
I know in a Sense ROM you can replace the system/media/audio/ui/Volume-1 through Volume-7 sound files and was wondering if I can do something like this with a AOSP ROM like CM7. Is this possible at all? Even if I had to look into building my own CM7 from source I'd like to give it a try.

Is it possible to change Viber sounds? If I change to system sound, it sounds very loud and I'm not turning sound down because of the app? So is there a way to change it's native app sounds?

On one page of my app there are sounds. Is there a line of code to allow the volume up/down buttons to switch to media volume control for that page of the app only? Or do I need to set it for the entire app, and how do I do that?

Change Volume on a per App basis.
Sometimes it is annoying, that all Media Apps like Games, Music and such, have the same volume. Therefore, a tweak that lets you preset a certain volume for an App, would be a perfect solution.
The Volume Rocker would then act as a MainMix instead of a master level.

An app or mod that will use the microphone to sense the amount of noise around you and adjust the notifications accordingly - that is to say when its quiet, next to my bed and I am sleeping I want it to be all quiet sounds - but when I am working and there is fan noises and other stuff that is louder then normal I want the notifications to be loud - but if I walk into the break room which is quiet I want it to be quiet again - or if I am listening to music in a room or car turn up the notifications so I can here them and back down when not. You know take a sound reading and turn up or down the volume of the notification that is happening at that given time.
Only problem being when its in your pocket it will always seem to be quieter then normal so they will be quiet also, so there would need to be something to listen to the sound and determine if its being muffled by a pocket or whatever and turn it up then - if playing a sound and analysing that sound it should be able to determine what environment the phone is in, like a pocket or bag that will make it quieter. I am not even sure if i am describing this properly but I know someone can probably figure it out, but it might have to be something the manufacturer does, like that phone that has 2 microphones to auto cancel out background noises like a bluetooth headset.

Is there anyway to hide the volume change bar faster.
Every time I press the Volume rocker, the volume change bar keeps on the screen for five seconds. In my opinion are two seconds enough.

my phone is Samsung Galaxy Mini which is a ldpi device which now runs on an ICS rom. I am trying to change the color for the brightness sliders and volume sliders. Which .xml need to be edited to change the colour..
I decompiled framework-res.apk and changed hex color values under @id/ progress and @id/secondary progress in "progress_horizontal.xml", also changed colors of few pngs in drawable-mdpi in framework, now the progress seek bar has changed the color, but brightness slider color remains the same.
I then decompiled systemui.apk and changed the hex color values under @id/progress in "adi_seekbar.xml",but nothing got changed..
Which .xml is associated with the seek bar for brightness and volume slider? Or should i deal with smali files to change the color of brighntness slider and volume slider..

I can't seem to get my ring volume setting to stay. I change it [lower than the maximum] and eventually it rings at it's highest level. What am I not doing to keep it at my setting?

The volume buttons/rocker on my phone does not allow me to change to media only. If no media is playing it only changes the ringer volume.
Imagine this setting, in my car I have volume all the way up, I get out of car and put on headphones, volume is too loud. I ether play music to where my ears bust or I go into settings and change the volume there. When I try to turn it down immediately, it changes the ringer until I let that volume display disappear. Which means I'm stuck listening to it too loud until I let it disappear to where I can change the media volume.
My little rant is over, how do I force the volume buttons to only be media!

how change the volume bar color and the lockscreen clock font, so it looks the same as ICS. I'm using CM7. What to do (what I use to ''open'' and close'' the needed files, what to change, what possible files to change, etc), because my knowledge isn't good at this.

I'm ultimately looking for a way to play/pause and skip music without turning on the screen. I had an HTC Hero a while back running CM7 RC, and I had a few options for this. Holding the volume rocker up or down skipped the song forward and backwards respectively, and when I had a headset in, the Mic button could also have these functions. A single press would play/pause, or answer a call (depending on phone state), double tap would skip the song, and a long press would activate voice search.
I now have the Epic 4G, and none of these functions work anymore. The volume rocker just changes the volume, and the mic button only answers calls, or activates voice dialing, and even then, the screen has to be on and unlocked. I find this of mild annoyance. I haven't found any obvious way to change these settings.
Basically, I want to know how do I change the function of hardware keys? Specifically, the mic button on a wired headset and the volume rockers for music functions.

I have a Droid Bionic. I like it. But I was recently having some GMail syncing issues and during the troubleshooting for that I uninstalled the latest GMail update and reinstalled it. As a result, GMail is now doing audible notificatrion sounds for new email when before I only had notification in t he notification bar. I can't seem to get it turned off. I still want calendar events and texts to sound so I don't want to silence the phone but I want email and GMail to be silent (Notification icon only).

I recently got an HTC Hero (actually a (UK)T-Mobile G2) which I think is fantastic. The only problem I have is to do with the Calendar Event Alert sound. T-Mobile supply it with this noise that is awful - it sounds like someone scraping their fingernails down a blackboard. It's horrid!
I've tried changing it by going into the Calendar then doing Menu -> Settinggs -> Reminders -> Reminder sounds and then selecting a different sounds but it's no use. I even tried removing and re-adding the Exchange account but I can't get it to stop playing that awful noise!

I used "ringdroid" to make notification and ringtone sounds and they show up on the lists but only the ringtones work. And even when I try to select a default notification sound, it doesn't change to it, its stays the same as when the one that it was set to when i got the phone. Any ideas what might be causing this and how to resolve it?

Recently purchased the Virgin Mobile Supreme (Sprint Vital, ZTE N9810). The one thing that is bothering me is that there is only one volume setting for the combined ringtone and notifications. I would like to set these volumes separately.
I tried one volume control tool, but even though it had 'separate' controls changing ringtone changed notification and vice versa.

What are the differences between RUU and AOSP ROMs?
Am I correct that a RUU rom is a fully stock rom that some devs post with or without root? Like basically the latest version of non OTA for your device?
I feel like this is something basic that I should know but just haven't come across it.

I have seen more than a couple different inquiries (including some by me) on these topics in multiple places in the SF forums and elsewhere. Because of this I figured I would try and collect all the information regarding changing these things and put them into this one thread. If you think I am missing or forgot something, let me know and I can add it in (such as new files, clarification, etc).
Thanks to the respective creators of each file included in this thread. Without you guys we wouldn't even be detailing this process.
DISCLAIMER: This is intended to provide easy step-by-step directions to change bootup and shutdown animations and sounds. I take no responsibility if you screw up your phone attempting to follow these instructions. Read everything carefully.

Anyone had success changing boot animation?
-(thank you contributors to this thread)
Fascinate Boot Animation Links and Requests
- has a couple of different animations confirmed to work with the SF (thanks to SirKronan for compiling and respective creators for your work)
*Android Scribble 2.0
*Droid Star Wars R2D2
*Android Bios Boot animation
*Windows 7 boot animation
*Spinning droid custom boot animation
*Regular Galaxy S bootup animation
*Droid peeing on apple boot animation (can you confirm this one saps?) (confirmed below)
*Numerous Captivate animations (Stainless steel android, rotating colors android, electric android, etc.)
Here is one sound file (the DROID noise) which is in both formats for bootup and shutdown:
Bootup: DROID.wav
Shutdown: DROID.ogg
Here are some shutdown animations (originally created as bootup animation's from xda user GLa'DOS):
*Android scribble w/yellow color burst (altered by saps)
*Android scribble w/no color burst (altered by saps)
*Android scribble w/green color burst (altered by me)
Another shutdown animation:
*Galaxy S shutdown
PLEASE NOTE: You must be rooted. You must reboot in order for these changes to take effect. You should have Root Explorer (although I am sure there is a way with ADB commands as well though). You may want to create a backup (CWM or the like), just in case. Also, most of the people I have seen do this are running a version of Dirrk's/jt's kernel, which allow boot/shutdown animations to be changed. The kernel you are currently using when attempting to change the animations must allow for them to be changed for this to work.
The file needed to change your boot-up animation should be a .zip file.
I successfully changed my bootup animation by doing the following:
Boot-up animation:
1) download a new boot animation .zip file (I put mine in /sdcard/downloads)
2) open Root Explorer
3) navigate to where you put the new .zip
4) copy the new .zip
5) paste it into /data/local
6) rename it "bootanimation.zip." (if it isn't already)
Also, if you want to change the startup/shutdown sounds:
Startup sound:
1) DL a new sound file
2) convert to a .wav file (using Winamp+.wav converter/iTunes)
3) put on SD card
4) open Root Explorer
5) navigate to /system/etc
6) rename "PowerOn.wav" to "PowerOn.wav.old"
7) navigate to where you placed the DL'ed .wav file
8) copy
9) paste into /system/etc
10) rename it "PowerOn.wav"
Shutdown sound:
1) DL a new sound file
2) convert to .ogg file (I used Winamp+.ogg converter)
3) put on SD card
4) open Root Explorer
5) navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
6) rename "shutdown.ogg" to "shutdown.ogg.old"
7) navigate to the DL'ed .ogg file
8) copy
9) paste into /system/media/audio/ui
10) rename it "shutdown.ogg"
Shutdown animation (DL is above as well): (thanks to saps):

Sorry if this has been asked... I've searched and so far nothing. I just got my new Droid Eris. So far I love it, except for my text message sounds. My ringtone works as my new one. My notification sound plays my preference (Clapton's Layla) when I have an email and such, however, when I get a text message, it still plays the default sound. Is there somewhere you change this other than notification sounds?

My company has recently received some new android hardware and has requested that I create a custom operating system for the device. The manufacturer has agreed to provide us with the existing android source, but I have a few questions to get started:
On the following link: [URL] .......
It states that I need to add lines similar to the below to my "51-android.rules" file:"
# adb protocol on maguro/toro (Galaxy Nexus)
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTR{idProduct}=="6860", MODE="0600", OWNER="<username>"
How do I determine the correct information to use for this process? Should I collect this information with the device connected to a windows PC?
Once connected, I would like to scrap their existing operating system and begin from AOSP source, what information from their original source should I retain (Kernel, bootloader, etc), and what information would I be required to remove to bring in AOSP?
But most seem to be specifying nexus devices, or devices which already have a strong developer backing, neither of which apply to this hardware.
