Jan 23, 2014I am new to android and i had owned a sony walkman mobile the feature which enabled me to change the songs with volume rocker long press...is missing on android...currently i own a sony xperia sp and running stock rom and stock firmware..how to root the mobile or mess around with the software..all i know is to download apks and install them...so developing apk which enables users to change songs with long press of volume rocker?..and as i mentioned above i do not have a rooted mobile so is there any way i can find or instal an apk to change songs with the volume rocker without rooting and custom roms?

Oct 30, 2010I was wondering. Is there an app for changing the soft keys on my Samsung Vibrant to only activate when pressed long or double clicked? I am just sick and tired of accidentally pressing them because they are so damn sensitive, and unlike the Fascinate or Epic 4g, so close to the touch screen that pressing spacebar on the onscreen keyboard half the time results in hitting the soft keys by accident. I don't understand why we can't customize what the soft keys do and how long or many times activates them, because if you got even normal sized finger tips, it's so annoying to be typing into the search bar and then press back right below and have to retype everything again.

General :: How To Change Function Of Hardware Keys (Mic Button / Volume / Rocker)
Jan 23, 2012I'm ultimately looking for a way to play/pause and skip music without turning on the screen. I had an HTC Hero a while back running CM7 RC, and I had a few options for this. Holding the volume rocker up or down skipped the song forward and backwards respectively, and when I had a headset in, the Mic button could also have these functions. A single press would play/pause, or answer a call (depending on phone state), double tap would skip the song, and a long press would activate voice search.
I now have the Epic 4G, and none of these functions work anymore. The volume rocker just changes the volume, and the mic button only answers calls, or activates voice dialing, and even then, the screen has to be on and unlocked. I find this of mild annoyance. I haven't found any obvious way to change these settings.
Basically, I want to know how do I change the function of hardware keys? Specifically, the mic button on a wired headset and the volume rockers for music functions.
Motorola Droid X :: Way To Change Long Press Search Behaivor?
Nov 15, 2010Is there any way to change the long press of the search button behavior on the Droid X? It seems like it's hard coded to bring up voice search. I want to use Rotation Toggle, which can toggle screen rotation on long press of search, but I can't with the Droid X. I am rooted so if the solution requires that, I'm good.

Jun 11, 2012I need to be able to skip the swipe screen and unlock the phone by long pressing the power button. On short press, it should act regularly (waking up and showing the swipe screen). I've tried "No Lock", "Autolock" and "My Lock Utility" but these unlock the phone immediately after pressing the power button I think this would be the ideal combination of functionality.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
- plug in headset
- lock screen
- press headset button for several seconds
What happened:
- No reaction, Google Now / Voice Actions not launched
- Manually unlock screen
- Long press with unlocked screen correctly launches Voice Search
What you think the correct behaviour should be:
Long press of headset button should launch Google Now / Voice Actions even with locked screen. Having to dig the phone out of your pocket in order to launch Voice Actions with a headset e.g. to place a call kinda defeats the purpose of using Voice Actions in the first place.
Adding insult to injury: long press is not broadcast to other applications because of Google Now, so it can't even be put to good use e.g. as volume control.

At some point (not sure when exactly) the long-press feature to bring up the context menu for links in Chrome stopped working.
When I long-press on a link, all that happens is I get a short vibrate, but no menu.
This means that I can no longer "Open in new tab".It's all working fine on my Nexus 7.

This mod is pretty much essential to me, and it seems to be hard to come by in non-CM based ICS and JB ROMs, so what I'd like to ask is:
Is is possible for someone with the proper knowledge to elaborate some sort of guide, as general as possible, for AOSP and perhaps MIUIv4 Roms, if that is possible at all? I and many others might want this mod but don't have Roms that support it. My programming skills are extremely limited but perhaps with a guide, as general as it might be (given the differences in the code for each phone), I could get something done..
General :: Cobalt SP300 - Getting Volume Keys To Wake Up Screen?
Apr 29, 2013I bought a Cobalt SP300 on eBay and one of its faults is that the power button on top is a little shallow and hard to push...unfortunately it's the only way to wake the screen. I really want to use the volume keys to wake up the screen. I've tried a button remapper app (didn't work correctly) and tried an app called No Lock which disables the lock screen and allows you to wake the screen with the volume keys. The problem with it is that it only works like 10% of the time and I like the lock screen as well.
I think my only other option at this point is to manually try to edit the files. I found out how to root my phone and then through root explorer went to system/usr/keylayout and there is a file I think maps the buttons: mt6575-kpd.kl
I find

So I see the volume keys say WAKE_DROPPED instead of just wake. According to a search I did by what the dropped part means, it should still wake the screen but it doesn't. Would it be sensible to edit these to only wake? Do I chance bricking my phone doing this? I tried to backup my phone using MTKDroidTools but I can't get the backup function to work...

It changes the notification volume instead of media volume which is quite fustrating when trying to watch movies or listening to songs. I have to go to setting and change media volume seperatly. Jul 28, 2010In many games there are actions that you need to hold Y and then press B , but for snesoid, since I am using my same thumb on the virtual keys in an attempt to press them both at the same time, it doesn't work. It will release y and then press B or just release y. This becomes apparent in games like Super Mario World when you run, then jump, you lose the momentum and just do a regular jump. On the droid x, the only solution I have found is to set B also to a hardware key, like one of the volume buttons, then you can see how its supposed to work when you hold Y then hit B. This affects many other games like DKC3 (jumping while holding barrel). Any help or ideas?

Jun 29, 2010i exchanged my phone today do to a faulty microphone. now i got this evo and for example when i text and i wanna hold for a question mark it just puts down the letter and wont let me hold and alot of other things are very unresponsive or move slowly. I actually got the notification bar to stay halfway down which never happen to me cause i think it automatically goes all the way down. I did install a invisible sheild but i dont think that has any effect since most of the water is gone.it was working fine before i installed it tho. i had to turn the device off when the bottom buttons wouldnt respond until i would put it to sleep and then shortly after it go back to not responding then the screen stopped responding. is this faulty hardware?

Nov 3, 2010A backlight used to turn on for the bottom hard press keys on my dx but ever since I downloaded and installed the live wallpaper panoplied, they don't turn on anymore. I don't know how or even why a live wallpaper would turn off backlight settings for the keys but its becoming a major inconvenience. I checked the settings but couldn't find where to tweak backlight settings. I also rebooted the phone and did a soft reset but that didn't work. Can anyone out there help a brother out?

Nov 8, 2013I download radio shows directly to my device so i can listen on the subway and when I don't have a connection. Been doing this for years with my galaxy nexus (4.2 and 4.3). Tired it today on my shiny new nexus 5 and the tracks auto skip about halfway through. The tracks are typically a few hours long. I usually use mortplayer, but I tried antennapod and google music and it is happening is those apps too.
