General :: Will Upgrading To ICS Remove The Root

Jul 12, 2012

Upgrading my Rooted LG Nitro HD to the Leaked Android 4.0.3 (ICS)

My main question is will my root be lost when I root. & If so I would also like to know will I loose the ability to tether as well?

It took me some time to figure out to tether without that blasted AT&T warning coming up saying I didn't pay for the service. I use Straight Talk on my LG Nitro HD so I can't activate it any other way.

So I guess to summarize I want to know if I upgrade, will loose my root? & If I do loose the root, will the settings I modified be restored to AT&T default shutting down my tethering ability?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Upgrading SD Card With Root

Jun 11, 2010

I am brand new to Android and have a question about upgrading from the stock 2GB card to an 8GB class 6. I am rooted on 2.1 and want to flash my first custom ROM. What I want to know is when I get my new card will I have to re-root all over again or will I be able to just copy the data from my stock card to my pc then copy it back over to my new card? The root process was simple enough, however I would like to not have to go through the process over again if I don't have to.

HTC Desire : Upgrading Market Apps After Root

Recently rooted, and Market says there is updates, but it can't update them. The apps were included as part of leedroid 2.2f. I've read that I can use Titanium to uninstall the app (e.g. maps) then install again from the market. Is this correct, don't want to upset anything.

General :: How To Remove Existing Google Account Without Wiping And No Root

Sep 5, 2012

My phone was just stolen and so I am temporarily using an older Gingerbread device I had laying around. The problem is that my wife used it for a period of time and so its "locked" to her Google account. I realize that with root its fairly easy to disassociate the device from the primary Google account, but I have been unable to find out how to do it WITHOUT root. I really don't want to fully wipe the device if possible! The phone in question is running 2.3.4.

Motorola Droid X :: Remove Root From 2.1 - Currently In 2.2

Sep 28, 2010

So my phone was rooted using 1 click method during 2.1. However, my phone is now in 2.2. I did a hard/factory reset. Apparently that didn't remove Superuser permission. Residual root files are still there. I made sure to untick the option to back up my settings. So... I'm guessing I have to manually get it out. Any ideas how I can do it now? I'm looking to root 2.2 but I think it's best if I start fresh.

And as a side note, I'm surprised that Google Voice doesn't integrate more on this phone. I mean, it's a Google phone/OS, why not incorporate it seamlessly? Is there a way to have like a notification "star" on the Voice icon when I have new voice mail? I don't really like having notifications delivered to me via gmail.

Motorola Droid :: How To Remove Traces Of Root?

Sep 21, 2010

I'm developing the Soup or Root program for droids (computer-based, no apk yet sorry) as we all know, but I'm getting so tired of having to reflash my Droid to stock ROM over and over and over! I'm now working on Soup or Root 2.0 which means I'm going to be rooting my droid multiple times again to test effectively, but I really really really like the custom ROM and settings and everything I have on there now. Is there a way that I could save my Droid's current state exactly how it is as a flash able ROM for when I'm done testing, just flash to this ROM and I'm back to what I like? That way I could flash to stock ROM, root test, reflash stock ROM, root, repeat until testing is complete, then flash to my current state (ROM backup) and be happy with my Droid? Maybe I could get the droid simulator on my computer to be recognized by ADB, what do you think? That would save me all trouble of confusing the crap out of my poor Droid!

HTC Incredible : Way To Remove Stock App's With Root Explorer?

I found this online while researching how to remove bloatware off my phone. It's written for the Samsung Moment, but is there any reason why this wouldn't work for the Incredible? Removing stock apps with Root Explorer Tutorial @ Tutorial - Talking about Gadget and Computer Freak I am also seeing many people who use Titanium Backup to remove unwanted app's. It seems that Titanium will only delete them, not move them, but if you know you'll never want it again wouldn't that be okay? For app's like CityID or VZ Nav that you will never use or want?

What I did was created a folder on my SD "deleted" and I was copying the applications I didnt not want from /system/app. So I moved amazonmp3.adk and cityid.apk to the deleted folder. When I look in the app folder they are gone but when I look under my apps from the home screen they are still there. So I reboot and when i go back into /system/app the apps are mysteriously back.

HTC Incredible :: Downgraded To Remove Root - Can't Update To Froyo

Sep 4, 2010

I have followed every guide that I can find. I cannot get my phone to either receive the OTA update and I cannot get it to update manually. This is the error that I get:

assert failed: file_getprop ("/system/build.prop","ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/inc/inc/inc:2.1-update1/ERE27/161494:user/release-keys" || file.getprop ("/system.build.prop","ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/231334:user/release-keys

E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

I had a stock Incredible that I rooted with Unrevoked3. I then ran Unrevoked Forever on it and then downgraded to remove root. I placed the 2.2 Update on the sdcard and went through the recovery menu to select it and then try to install it. The above error is what I get everytime I try to update. This is also the same error I got when I tried to accept the OTA when I was rooted (in my grogginess in the morning when I woke up and saw the OTA, I just kept hitting ok having completely forgotten about my phone being rooted). I don't know much about coding other than the little I use to do with Java/C++/HTML in school, but what I am getting out of this is my phone does not like the 2.2 update file. I am assuming that it may have an MD5 Hash in verifying/installing the file that it does not like?

I am new to this (less than a week) and I removed everything with root explorer (and it was so simple). You can get it from the market. I would recommend it if you are not used to linux commands. It was well worth the two dollars for me. The main thing to know is r/w (read/write) vs. r/o (read only). It is just as it says - r/o will only let you read files, while r/w will let you read AND write files (which includes move and delete).
