General :: WiFi Uses WPA2 - How To Disable Credential Storage
Jul 14, 2011
My university WiFi uses WPA2 Enterprise for security and we authenticate using the following settings:
EAP Method: PEAP
Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2
CA Certificate: Thawte Premium CA
and identity and password being our student credentials.
I've copied that from an old unanswered thread because I have a similar issue.
How do I disable Credential Storage so I don't have to re-enter the password every time I'm back on campus. Since I'm back and forth multiple times each day, I end up having to re-enter it constantly. On my home network I used WEP, and the HTC Inspire I use connect automatically.
I'd like to be able to connect automatically to the university network as well.

Is there anyway to recover from forgetting your credential storage password? I haven't attempted 3 times so I'm not locked out or anything, but I want to change the password and can't remember the original. I'm I looking at a hard reset?

Any chance of a root tether application coming out with WPA2? I would think a app could be developed similar to Sprint's mobile hot spot.

When my router is set to WPA the Droidx connects and stays connected. But when I change to WPA2 it keeps connecting and disconnecting every few seconds. This leaves me with a choice of less security for my entire network, or no wifi for the Droidx. I have seen this problem mentioned on the Motorola support page, but I have not heard of any resolution. Does anyone have a fix for this? I am using the new Froyo 2.2 OTA update.

Ever since flashing the 2.1 leaks (V1 and then V2), I have not been able to connect to my university's WPA2-enterprise wireless network. After I enter my login info (the network uses PEAP with MSCHAPv2, so it doesn't need any certificates), the phone connects as expected and gets a valid IP address, verifiable with netcfg. Before any traffic is allowed to pass to the outside world, however, the device connecting has to go to an authentication page in a browser. When I attempt to go to that page, I get an error titled "Data Connectivity Problem" that states "A secure connection could not be established" which only presents an option to acknowledge the error.
Since I can't load that authentication page, the network is entirely unusable. I did not encounter this problem with 1.5, but since I'm running the V2 leak, reverting is not an option.Has anyone else seen this type of behavior? I can't identify if the problem is in the actual link not being established properly (seems unlikely, as the phone is given an IP address, but perhaps the PEAP layer is having some sort of issue?) or if it has to do with the SSL certificates used for the network authentication page (they're signed, but I'm fairly certain that the name if the site they're signed for is not the name that they've given the new auth server).

My shop has been approved to buy tablets to hold our tech data to work on equipment. The only issue is they cannot have camera access, wifi access or Bluetooth. This is just to insure that people don't end up bringing them home, loading a bunch of games on it and bringing it back to work. Its strictly going to be for PDF files and Pictures of configuration stuff. I was wondering if there was a Device administrator apk out there where I can just select these options to disable. I know my way around android as with rooting and what not, but when it comes to dev I am completely clueless.

there is a way to more selectively manage probing requests in android. I am always forgetting to turn off my wifi when I leave the office/home and don't really like the idea of my phone broadcasting so much info about me in the requests (esp when i don't need wifi). I have been looking for settings but didn't find one and was thinking about an app perhaps that maybe can turn wifi off based on location (though i guess that would need gps which would be another issue?). I would settle for something that turns off wifi once it is out of range of a certain point (like home or work) for a certain period of time, then i could just turn it on manually when I am say at a cofee shop or whatever (and maybe it could turn off again when that point gets out of range).

I am a newbie to Android world. Recently I bought a Freedompop (which gives you 500MB free data every month) and I wanna use it with my Nexus 7 as a GPS/infotainment system on my car. However, I want to disable App/system auto-update under Freedompop WiFi on my car (Freedompop actually works like a tethering point), but still enable it at home (so I can still get some updates and I won't forget to turn it off when I get on my car). Is there any app will do that? Or any tricks?

I am looking for an app that automatically switches off the cellular radio when wifi is connected and switches it back on when wifi loses connection. I'm not talking about the APN data connection which already does that, I'm talking about the regular cell phone connection.
According to my lack of results searching through the forums, Market, and Google, such an app does not exist yet. Currently the best app I've found to do anything remotely like this is the Airplane Mode Wi-Fi app, which is a manual switch and a slightly cumbersome one at that, not nearly good enough for how often I go in and out of wifi.
The reason I ask for this is because I use Google Voice with SIP and a prepaid plan. I want to use SIP as much as possible to save my prepaid minutes for when I really need them. When wifi and cell are both connected with Sipdroid running and I receive a call, they both ring at the same time. To be sure I don't accidentally use prepaid, I usually reject the call and call back over SIP, which is slightly annoying for both me and the caller.

I have a Galaxy S3 on the Bell Mobile network in Canada, and aside from the horrendous battery life, it's a pretty good phone. One thing I notice that's kinda annoying is the "Connected to Wi-Fi network [network name]" pop-up that comes up quite often. I've managed to snap a screenshot of it.
How to disable this? The only info I've found so far is on the Verizon pop-ups, and entering the *#6335623# code on the dial screen, but nothing comes up when I try that, and I'm not even sure that fix would work for this.

I don't own an Android 4.3 tablet yet but I need to know the following things.I wanted to restrict my device so that a user is unable to change any settings (in particular turn on/off WiFi) and disable all applications except one.How strict is the restriction?
If I disable all apps except one what will the restricted user be able to do?
In an ideal scenario I'd like the restricted user to do only 3 things:
a) turn the tablet on/off
b) turn the application of my choosing on/off
c) all other options would be disabled
d) the restricted user should NOT see any data of the administrator

I'm loving my Nexus 5, my first Android phone. I use Pattern Lock. I want to disable Pattern Lock when I'm at my home wifi. I did some research and it looks like apps can only turn off Pattern Lock when the phone is rooted. Is this true? I don't want to root my phone and I'd rather not have to enter Pattern Lock a hundred times a day.

Radio Shack had this phone on sale for $14 cash this weekend, I picked up a couple of them to setup to use for WiFi text/music/YouTube phones for my kids.
I have rooted them and now just want to get rid of the Virgin Mobile automatic profile update that attempts to happen when I power on the phone. If possible, I would like to permanently disable the cellular data/voice modem as well leaving WiFi enabled. What app I should disable/ remove through titanium backup to do this?
I have absolutely no intention of ever activating these phones for traditional cell service. They will strictly be used as WiFi android devices. Basically a cheapo alternative to an iPod.
I have set the phone for airplane mode and then enabled WiFi to prevent them from making calls, this is a reasonable solution but they could turn on the cell radio and start trying to activate, although they wouldn't get far as they don't have a way to provide payment anyway.
Problem is their mother isn't the brightest and when they are away at mom's, I would like to be able to text them and not be on the phone with her troubleshooting them constantly.

I've bought this chinese clone of the SIII, it's a MT6575. It's great except for the internal storage, which supposedly is 500MB but there seems to be an invisible SD storage which is 2GB. It's really confusing... When I go to Settings -> Storage there are 3 memories: "Internal Storage" (claims to be 4GB but it's fake, it's actually 500MB), "Phone Storage" (claims to be 16.5GB but it's probably 2GB), and finally my SD, "SD Card" (32GB).
The thing is, I'm having problems downloading big apps because apps go to "Internal Storage" which is 500MB only, and which files are stored in the "Phone Storage" (maybe internal & phone are actually the same?). However when I go to Settings -> Apps, on the "Downloaded" tab, the apps are in "Internal Storage" (500MB), and on the "On SD Card" tab, it shows that apps are in "Phone Storage" (the ones I moved to SD). This means my 32GB SD isn't being used by the system when I send apps to SD probably.
Also, my 32GB SD card is found in /mnt/sdcard2, and the /mnt/sdcard... I don't know which storage is that.
So basically all this is happening because I tried to Link2SD with my 32GB SD doing all the 2 partitions stuff and so, but Link2SD never detects the "secondary SD" which is the 32GB SD, as this fake SD card, "Phone Storage", is probably what the programs thinks to be the SD card.

Is there a way to alter the wpa_supplicant on an non rooted G1 with the actual firmware RC33 which is installed on the german devices, I will need to have access to WPA2 Enterprise Networks with my G1 , and i actually could not get root access with the current release of Android on the Phone. So my question is , is it possible to write a Programm which can build in the possibility to connect to WPA2 Enterpise networks on a G1 without root access, and when there is one how could this be done?

Does anyone know if Android 2.1 (on an HTC Desire) is capable of WPA2 Enterprise? I called HTC and they told me there was no support - that it wasn't a limitation of the phone, but that Google doesn't offer support for it yet - which seems to me rather ridiculous (My school will only let me use their network on a WPA2 Enterprise network). Does anyone know of any work around? Also, when is Google set to release a firmware update providing native support for WPA Enterprise?

is there a way to log on a WPA2 Enterprise Network? My school uses this, and I can't connect.I bought my Galaxy without a data plan because I thought I could be able to connect at school and at home, but it doesn't work with WPA2 Enterprise.I heard of an app, Wifi Helper I believe, but you need to have your phone rooted, something which I don't really want to do for various reasons.

I just received my new Droid X yesterday and so far I'm loving it. I discovered that there are problems with WiFi on many Droid X's and it mostly stems from what type of encryption is being used on the router. My Linksys router was set up with WPA2 Personal with AES encryption. I found out that by changing it to TKIP could alleviate the problem so that's what I did. Now WiFi seems to work just fine. The only thing that bothers me is that whenever WiFi is enabled, it doesn't seem to disable my 3G connection. All of the data is going through the WiFi connection but the 3G icon stays on the notification bar not doing anything. I thought 3G was supposed to be disabled when connected to a WiFi hotspot?

How do I enable/disable GPS and Wifi providers? I check to see if they are enabled by using this code:
locationManager.isProviderEnabled("gps") locationManager.isProviderEnabled("network")
If both are false, I'd like to turn enable the GPS provider and/or the Network provider so that the above checks would return true. Is this possible? If so, what permissions does it require?
