Problem is only the dialer.

I just got the 2.1 update and I'm just trying to figure everything out.The one thing that I'm having a problem with is changing the default dialer.I had this problem before using aContacts, but was able to fix it in 1.5.But now that I have the 2.1 update,I cannot change the default dialer, which hasn't changed at all. uninstalled and reinstalled aContacts but it did not work. I never got the popup asking which app I want to use as the default. If anyone can help,it would be appreciated.Maybe it's a glitch - I don't know.

I bought my Magic this summer and I'm loving it.But recently i found a bug which is starting to annoy me. When trying to make the first call with the default dialer that comes with Magic and android 1.5, it gets canceled right away. I press the top entry in the list, it goes to the call display (with the droid in the background and showing the name of call recipient), then i hear a beep and call canceled. When I try to dial again, it works! Problem is; it's really annoying to make the call twice!Has anyone experienced this problem? Or have a proposal how to fix it?

If I want to call "Work," which I have 3 #s programmed for, and I press 9675, the # that pops up is the the first # that shows up for in the contact details, but it is not the one that I have programmed as the default. Are we stuck with this, there a way to change it and I'm overlooking it?

Before the OTA I was able to select which apllication was used when the large "phone" button was pushed on the homepage. I think what used to happen was that when you downloaded a new phone dialer and then pressed the phone button the first time you were given an option as to what app you want to use for this action. Once you chose an app it was always activated when you pressed the phone button. I don't see this happening anymore.

Lots of my contacts - especially my "favorite" contacts - have multiple phone #'s, which is pretty typical. So it's a nice feature in the dialer that lets you select a specific number - home, office, mobile, etc., to dial every time you pull up the favorites tab within the dialer screen. I by mistake checked "use as default number" for one particular contact, but now I want to deactivate that selection and have no default number for that particular contact.
I know how to switch the default number from one to another; is there a way to deactivate the default number and just have the phone ask me which number to dial, e.g. home, office, mobile, etc.? I've been trying to tinker with everything I can to no avail, and I've also been shut out trying to answer this question online. Only thing I haven't done is call Verizon.

Well I live in the UK with a Vodafone handset and just upgraded OTA, before the update when using the dialer and selecting a contact then selecting the number would usually dial straight away. After the update when I select the contact and select the number I want to dial what it does now is take it to the number screen with the number on thus slowing down the call process and making me put it towards my ear and pressing random numbers before realizing that I haven't even made the call yet.

I have an LG G2 and I am using a pair of LG Tones. Whenever I click the Hands-Free button it automatically launches the Android voice dialer. It is slow, unaccurate, and obnoxious. I can use my Tones along with other voice assistant apps but I cannot change the app that is automatically launched after clicking the Hands-Free button. After all, that's why I have the Tones. I wanted to know if there was a way to substitute the default Android dialer.
Other info:
Clearing the defaults is not an option. It came as the default.
Disabling the voice dialer makes the Hands-Free button do nothing. (Interstingly enough, when trying to use my play/pause button it also wouldn't work. The other functions like volume and forward and previous track may also not have worked but I don't know I didn't try. After re-enabling the voice dialer all functions resumed functioning.)
Conclusion: I love my phone and my tones but this Voice Dialer is horrendous. Even on my S4, the default is S Voice which is even better than this.

I have started using Waze for my GPS navigation needs. The problem is, I had previously told my phone to use Google Maps Navigation (or simply "Navigation", the one with the blue arrow icon, instead of the other option at the time which was TeleNav GPS Navigator), but I can't seem to remove that default app setting.
I have gone to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All to look for the Navigation app and clear "Launch by Default" setting, but it does not appear in the list of apps at all.
Is this a thing about Google apps, that they are kept hidden and forever locked into being your default app once you tell it so? I thought maybe it was part of the regular Google Maps app, but the setting there says there are no defaults set to be cleared.

Since the time I have upgraded to KitKat- I have been facing the issue of Call History. Every Time I miss a Call and I click on the name/number- Its asks me to select a default option of whoch way to open that entry , that is, through Dialer or through History. I tried selecting history and clicked on the "always use this option" but the same thing kept happening every time. After a few tries, I chose the other option and did the same thing and it again kept appearing... It looks like there's a bug in this and it never really saves my preference.

My particular problem is that the phone is answering with a voice command that tells you who is calling if the caller is in my contacts list. I tried to find it listed in the list for ringtones to no avail. I've also checked a couple of different options but the phone is set to the voice announcement by default. Please help. My phone is rooted (I think), but currently I am on a looong learning curve to be able to troubleshoot these things on my own.

Example: I have a button which starts an activity with GET_CONTENT audio/* I have a menu with choices: Music Track or Sound Recorder and a checkbox. I check the box, it tells me that I can clear the setting in Application -> Manage Applications. I launch the Music Track with the box checked. I go to the application settings, but the "clear defaults" button is always enabled. It was already the case with 1.1 SDK, 1.5 does not help (tested on emulator 1.5 AND ADP1 with 1.5 recovery image). I also tested the allowClearUserData flag but it seems we cannot clear anything but the cache (for the webview ?)

I have been using the default browser on a droid X to access a website on my web-server for weeks but 3 days ago the website became unavailable (showing the "Web page not available" message). Every other domain on the internet seems to work just fine. I then found out that other websites hosted on my server could not load on the droid. I checked the Apache log files and determined that no inbound http connects were being received on my server.
So it seems like a connection was not being established between my droid X and my server using the default browser at all. Then I downloaded a Ping (icmp) app off the market and pinged my server IP and bang, a response. Then I pinged the domain name and received a quick response, meaning that both a connection was possible and that DNS was resolving correctly.
Remembering that Opera browsers use compression and route requests through their servers I thought this could bypass any gateway or proxy Verizon might have in place. The website loaded quickly and completely on the Opera Mini browser. I called Verizon technical support and got through (a bunch of ads) to a nice agent who could not identify any problems on his terminal. He helpfully navigated to my website on his droid X and it worked perfectly. I think he said that he was on the east coast so at least its working there. But there was nothing else he could do so...............

We want to disable the default dialer application and install our own dialer application on phone. We want to know how we can disable the default dialer so that it doesn't listen for missed calls, incoming calls and also it doesn't gets launched by other application for making calls instead our application gets launched. Only our dialer application should be listening on it. We want to use same format as existing content URIs supported by default dialer in our own dialer application. Is this possible? If yes then how we can achieve it? We don't want to delete the call log application code or we don't want to remove it from build. We want to have default dialer in device. Our dialer application will be installed later may be by downloading from Internet by end user.

First of all I have a Sprint Epic Touch 4G AKA Samsung Galaxy 2 S and not rooted,
I keep getting prompt to select which launcher(launcher or twlauncher) when I press the home button. I would select set as default and then select twlauncher. This would work fine and I could do what I want and the home button acts normally. BUT if I long press the home button to bring up task manager and a list of recent apps, it would break the default setting on twlauncher. I could go to setting and manage app and see that the default on twlauncher is now cleared even though I did not manually clear it. I tried checking set as default and then select launcher. It too won't stick AFTER I long press the home button.
Long story short, I downloaded several launchers from the market and none of them will stay set as default IF I long press the home button. It breaks the default every time and ask me to select the launcher to use when I press the home button. Now this would be great if I could just delete all the other launcher and have only one but I can't delete the stock launcher or twlauncher.
So the first time this happen, I was driving down the road using telenav when I see the prompt to select which launcher(something that I've never seen after using the phone for 2 weeks).
1. Start task manager and kill all active app and clear memory from RAM
2. Clear defaults from manage application....twlauncher
3. Click home button, click set as default and then launcher instead of twlauncher- still does not stick after long press home button.
4. Manage application...twlauncher CLEAR DATA (sure enough my neatly organized homepage and apps folder was reset to stock).
5. Pull battery
6. Cycle power on and off.
7. Gave up after 24 hours and factory reset the phone.
8. Went on my merry way and reinstall apps and customizing home page and apps pages and so on.
9. In hindsight, I should have long press home button every time I installed a new app to see which one will break the default.
10. Phone works fine for 24 hours and then it mysteriously acts up again. It ask me to choose which launcher again.
11. Went back to googling and tried the following which did not work:
a. clear media hub data and default
b. installed Sprint "clean" ID and then later deleting it.
c. installed go launcher and see if it will stick
d. installed launcher pro
e. installed home switcher
f. I don't have Qik or some child lock apps
g. search XDA and found about 15 threads and tried everything in those thread short of using Titanium to freeze one launcher.
Right now I just won't long press the home button to bring up task manager or recent apps and everything will work just fine. Minor annoyance but I guess I can live with it until the ICS update.
