General :: Themed APK Won't Install / Open
Nov 18, 2013
I recently downloaded the playstation app. I decompiled, changed the background images to my liking and recompiled. Everything was fine as far as decompiling and recompiling. At first the app wouldn't install. So I went back and during the recompilation process I selected the option to retain original application signature. Now the apk installs, but the application will not open.

I have a smoked glass Feedr widget and a smoked glass news and weather widget on my droid that i would like to install on my new Incredible. how do i go about installing these themed widgets? push them on with ADB maybe? if so any idea which folder i can put them in? can i push them to data/apps or does it have to be system/apps? i tried copying and pasting them from the system/apps folder on my droid onto my sd card, i then put that sd card into the incredible, and they would not install through astro. so it wasn't as simple as it could have been.

Can get copy of their VoiceSearch.apk for Galaxy Nexus ICS? I've been looking for a way to get the dark themed Voice Search onto my phone running ICS but is not a Nexus (the one on the market still looks like Gingerbread). Doing a search on google wth regards to this only shows me results about making Google Now work on ICS. Something that isn't on my plans as of yet. For more reference, I'm talking about this search: [URL] ......

I have a htc Legend with cm7 and the included ADW.Launcher. When I apply a theme, the notification bar doesn't get themed. It wasn't always like this. I'm guessing this is maybe some sort of permissions issue.

So I downloaded the pre-alpha release of fennec and installed it but it would never open. Is there anyway to get it working on nexbeast or would I have to go back to a stock rom? Has anyone tried fennec? If so how is the experience?

I am new to the whole rotting thing, I installed the bugless beast on my droid 2 days ago and everything went great and it worked fine, I'm just having an issue with it being really lagy at times and the biggest problem is that it freezes everytime I open or close the keyoard, I have to forse close and wait for it to load everything up again, a message is desplayed and it says:
The application launcher+(process android.process.acore) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Then I hit forse close, it usually only happens when I open or close the keyboard but sometime it will happen at random. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it.

I created a skinned HTC IME mod using Gimpsta's theme generator found here: http://www.gimpsta.com/themerlo/main.php
I did it using a key template I made and a simple filter using GIMP 2, along with the "transparent" key options on the themer. Hoping to make a tutorial soon on how I did it cause it's pretty cool.
Here is what it looks like.
Couldn't attach the APK for some reason so I tried uploading to mediafire.

Personally I love being rooted and having all the options that being rooted gives me, however I have not found a single theme that I actually like more than stock Android. I mean, some of them have cool elements, JRummy's green themed ROM is ok, as is Fab's NexBeast, they have some really cool parts to the themes, but some of the icons or other things are just God-awful in every theme I have tried. I liked Pete's Smoked Glass theme he had to apply over his BB builds, but the notification drop down had some problems, you couldn't always read the notification text making it basically useless. Overall I am just asking, am I the only one who highly prefers the Android stock theme?

Themed Swype - xda-developers
Different colors at the bottom, delete the color from the file name when placing on sdcard. i.e. blueupdate.zip > update.zip
MUST BE DEODEXED
All Swypes have matching tracers
All these are for 2.2, there is no reason you shouldnt be on 2.2
Original images from bilbobrian, just some extra days on my part getting it to you
As always do a back up
If on 2.2 and have boot strapper installed to use this update .zip, throw it on sd card, open droid x bootstraper reboot to recovery, apply update.zip, reboot done!
........ without bootstrapper method...........if you want just the apk for a different color just extract it from the update.zip file use root explorer or other app to make a copy of your original app ( its in system/app)
First you must remove swype.apk from system/app any way of your choosing, terminal or adb, then reboot.
Follow the following directions
Put the .apk on your sdcard, navigate to it with astro or your fav file browser, open the apk and choose install. If it still says only gives you the option to uninstall, you didnt uninstall correctly. if you can get it to show up after install go into settings and keyboard and make sure swype is checked
DONE
................ If you somehow botched it...............
restore your back up.
If you were careless enough to not do a back up and your on 2.2 get a clean download here.. MY droid world 2.2 follow those instructions. then download file again, your last one might of been bad. When in recovery go to mounts and mount system, then install the zip

I have skinned Handcent SMS and changed a few things. Ask if you have any questions. Just install it like a normal application. Any suggestions are welcome.
Update 6/9/10:
-REMOVED ADS!
-Optimized all png's so app runs faster and is more lightweight.
Update 6/5/10:
-Updated to Handcent version 3.0.4.
Updates 5/03/2010:
-Changed all text entry boxes to stock Android.
-Changed top bar to white.
-Changed all top bar icons to stock Android look.
-Changed send button to grey and made it square rather than rectangle.
Update 4/21/10:
-Changed all attachment icons to stock Android 2.0+ icons. (Screenshots)
-Changed settings icon to stock Android settings icon. (In conversation list, press menu, the settings button is changed now.)
-Changed 2 of the notification icons. One is the stock android black smiley icon, and one is the android 1.5 or 1.6 notification icon. Just scroll through the notification icons to find them.
Update 4/18/10:
-Updated to Handcent SMS version 2.9.36
Update 4/12/10:
-Resized icons so they don't look distorted on the dock of HelixLauncher.
-Recolored the send message button to go with the rest of the color scheme.
Update 4/10/10:
-Changed the "To:" text entry box for Handcent quick reply to white.
Update 4/9/10:
-Changed widget bubble color to black so the greens don't clash.
-Changed pop-up text entry box to white with orange border rather than the ugly tan color.
Updates 4/8/10:
-Updated Handcent version to 2.9.35
-Changed Handcent bubbles to chompSMS bubbles. (Both are default silver bubbles now, but in settings you can change the color back to green or whatever colors you like for the bubbles). Thanks to n1ghtwish for helping me figure this out!
-Recolored the top bar of iPhone theme to go better with new bubbles. The top bar is now more white rather than a blueish tint.
Updates:
-Changed unknown contact icon to an android robot, similar to the Nexus One.
-Changed Handcent icon to the stock android icon (little green smiley face).
-Recolored the text entry box to a white rectangle and added an orange border around to look similar to stock android phones.
Screenshots:
Download: HandcentCustom.apk
IMO, it looks better if you go into Handcent, options, bubble settings, and scroll all the way to the bottom and uncheck start lines of editor box so that it will only be 1 line rather than 2 to start out with. (That's also how it is in the screenshot).
By the way, you must uninstall Handcent and any font packs before installing this modded version. Props to sneaky_zekey over at alldroid.com for helping me figure all this out.

I have slightly themed ChompSMS. Got this "cracked" version from another website, which removed ads. Then I themed it up a little. Unfortunately it is version 3.6, which isn't the latest build, but works pretty flawlessly for me.
Updates:
-No ads!
-Changed ChompSMS icon to stock Android (green smiley) icon.
-Changed message unread bar to green instead of blue.
-Changed highlight color from blue, to the yellow-orangeish stock Android selection color. (Look at screenshots)
-Changed the green notification icon to the stock green smiley icon (you have to change this in notification settings, it isn't defaulted).

I replaced a lot of the .png's in Ander Webb's ADW.Launcher and resigned it, so it is installable. It should look a lot more like the stock Blur launcher, but with much better performance
Be sure to support Ander Webb if you like the launcher!

NexBeast 0.9 Release
I built this ROM because I was having some issues with CyanogenMod 5.0.5 (mainly, no MMS), but I didn't want to give up the look and feel of NexTheme, which I really liked.
Before I begin, I must give credit where it is due (everyone but me, I take no credit. I'm just an enthusiast, not a developer).
Pete - For the excellent, bugless base ROM
Koush - For porting over CyanogenMod 5.0.5 to the Droid
Cyanogen - For building CyanogenMod
manup456 - For the AWESOME NexTheme 2.0
ChevyNo1 - For the overclock kernel
AdamZ - For the overclock kernel
gl0be - Whose Desire theme helped me a lot
haxzamatic - For his port of NexTheme to Koush's CM5
jr33 - For his Metamorph of NexTheme
arctu - For the AMAZING HelixLauncher2
Refer to this thread for NexTheme details (and screenshots!):

I have a few questions about theming apps. I don't know much about Android apps, but was thinking about looking into theming some. Before I do, I want to find out if it is worthwhile or if it will be constant re-theming after every update.
When an app is themed (like the Revolution Facebook version for example) Can it be updated through the market or released APK?
If updated through the market, will it be overwritten when the app updates?
Do market updates only change the pieces needed or do they replace the whole app?
Are themed apps always complete versions or are they sometimes just the images and other parts that were themed?

For all you guys out there who like taking themes to the max, I was tipped to this website by Android Forums - View Profile: incrediblenotinstock
http://www.gimpsta.com/themer/
You will want to jump over to Xda here : [url] nd pick up the high res v27 for froyo if your on froyo the other if you are not and pick up that zip. You will need the clicker hi apk from that zip if you want to adjust the settings for the keyboard.
I didn't create this website or any of the themes there All credit goes to those that did. I just wanted to share with the community. Its very easy and a straight forward process and it creates a QR code (which I never got to work) and a download link to dl the apk and side load it like you would any other app. If you already have the htc.ime keyboard installed, you will want to uninstall it first. It does hold a lot of memory (around 11mb in running processes for me) but it doesn't lag. It also isn't multi touch, but I have found typing very fluid for me.

A button on our screen causes an activity to be shown that has a "dialog" theme. We are having an issue were if you click the button quickly twice in a row, the dialog activity is opened twice.
Typically I would expect that when a new activity is started, the underlying activity is immediately stopped, and thus accepts no further input.
However, since the dialog themed activity does not take over the whole screen, I think the underlying activity is only paused, not stopped and thus the buttons are still accessible.
Which brings me to my question... Is there a way to force the dialog themed activity into a modal state where the user can't click the buttons on the activity below?
I could probably manually accomplish this by disabling everything in onPause, and reenabling it in onResume, but this seems like a lot of work!

Pete's Bugless 0.4 FRF84b themed (2.2) - Android Forums
Compatible THEMES:

[Theme] 928Droid "Black Glass" 2.2 for Froyo - Update.zip - MetaMorph - Back to Stockl
[Theme] NexTheme for Bugless Beast V0.4 (6/29/10)
Start posting them and I will edit it for people. I can't quite get KangaSaurus to work on it just yet - loads lock screen, everything is themed, then it reboots after SD Card load (sound off)
