General :: Streaming AVI / H264 From PC To Android?

Feb 3, 2012

I have recently bought a Tablet with Android 2.2 OS and I want to stream my 1000+ movies compressed with divix and h264. All have the AVI file extension. They are shared on my home network. My goal is to be able to stream these files to to my tablet. After searching most the day for which app to use I have come to the conclusion that there are many different way to accomplish this, some good, some bad.

I loaded Skifta on my PC and tablet and can now see the files but it says It cant play the file. Best way to accomplish this as google turns up 20 ways from sunday to stream AVI but which is best. I do like the fact that Skifta can access ones videos even away from home in a wireless hotspots. I was also looking at VLC but don't want to purchase something that won't work.

Android :: H264 Video Type And RTSP Streaming On Android

Dec 3, 2009

I am currently involved with developing a streaming media player for android. For testing purpose I have HTC HERO , HTC G1, and droid. I could stream audio and video both for only HERO. On G1 and Droid I get this error "Player Engine AO did a leave , error = 101 ", surprisingly this comes as soon as describe response is sent to the client!. So far I have not able to find out the exact cause of this error. Should it imply that (on droid and G1) Video type H264 is not supported for streaming? (RTSP).

Firmware details.
HERO >> 1.5 G1 >> 1.6 droid >> 2.0
RTSP streaming for only aac works fine on all the devices.

Android :: Unable To Playback Dumped H264 Stream

Aug 7, 2010

I am trying to dump h264 encoded bitstream to a file(video recording usecase). I had added the code for the file dump in the OMX FillBufferDone () callback. [Fillbufferdoneprocessing() function in pvmf_omx_enc_node.cpp] In the dump, what I observed is that the start code is not present and I think the SPS and PPS sequences are getting dumped. I am unable to playback the dumped stream. I am using 'ffplay' player.

I'm developing an application on Android 2.2. This application have to read some h264 videos using HTTP protocol. To read a video, I'm using following methods :

// INIT PART mMediaPlayer = new MediaPlayer(); mMediaPlayer.reset();
mMediaPlayer.setOnErrorListener(this); mMediaPlayer.setOnBufferingUpdateListener(this);
mMediaPlayer.setOnCompletionListener(this); mMediaPlayer.setOnPreparedListener(this);
mMediaPlayer.setOnSeekCompleteListener(this);
mMediaPlayer.setAudioStreamType(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC);

// SET DATASOURCE mMediaPlayer.reset(); mMediaPlayer.setDataSource(url);
mMediaPlayer.prepareAsync();
In prepareAsync callback : public void onPrepared(MediaPlayer mediaplayer) { mMediaPlayer.start();

HTC EVO 4G :: Playing 720p / H264 Videos On EVO?

Jun 21, 2010

I have tried to play several H.264 720p video samples on my EVO, and I get sound but no video. Two examples are the Simpsons trailer and the Fantastic Four trailer at H.264 Demo Clips | H264info.com I get no error, and I have tried the Android media player and several others (which are no doubt using the same API's underneath). Is it expected that video will not play for these files? Obviously the phone's screen would not be able to play them in full detail but I didn't expect that it could not play them at all. What is the point of having 720p resolution over HDMI when the phone can't play videos at that resolution? Or is it that it supports some particular type of H.264 and these videos aren't supported? Or is it actually trying to output directly through HDMI and I see nothing since I don't have it hooked up? UPDATE: I trans coded these sample trailers using Handbrake, and even when I end up with a LARGER file size they do play at 720p. But if I use the high quality preset, they do not work even at a low butyrate at 720p. So it's something about the "advanced options" that determines whether the EVO can play it or not.

HTC EVO 4G :: Petition For An H264 Codec Update?

Jun 24, 2010

After looking at comparison videos of the quality of 720p video compared to that of the Samsung Galaxy and Iphone 4g, should we be asking HTC for a true HD codec for compression? We have a very powerful device in the EVO 4G, but it is clear that there are a few shortcomings in terms of the software tools provided to unlock that power.

Motorola Droid :: Windows Media Center To H264

Nov 29, 2009

I wanted to share my method of converting my windows 7 media center TV recordings to h264 for the Droid. This may work for Vista, but assumes that you have the media pack, so your files are .wtv files (not dvr-ms).

I use MCEBuddy 2.0 Beta 11. This is a small service to convert the wtv to mp4. I Edited the mcebuddymencoder.conf file and change the H264 mencoder settings to this.

General :: Android Browser Not Streaming Video Like IOS

Dec 5, 2013

the Android Browser is not streaming the video, it forces it to download it first to play it in the Android Player or some other video app I have on the phone (The Daily Motion website won't even play videos, it shut plays audio). On my old iPhone, I would touch a video and it would stream through the browser, Chrome, Dolphin, Safari, etc. But with Android, it always wants me to download or try to play through an app which doesn't work or it just doesn't work. I have tried, Dolphin, Boat, Chrome, Opera, Baidu... none of them just play the video with problems. I didn't have this issue with iPhone, and it's kinda upsetting that I have such powerful hardware (Galaxy Note 3) and stuff just doesn't work like it should.I thought it was just my phone, but i tried it on my friend's HTC One and got the same results, so it must be an Android issue.

General :: Android AAC Streaming Sounds Artifacts?

Sep 25, 2012

I stream music from Pandora and an app for local radio (tune in) quite a bit. But I've noticed a very annoying clicking/popping sound while listening. I've tried adjusting the stream quality in Pandora and the buffer amount in tune-in to no avail.

Tune-in has an option to change the current stream for the station if available (in my case aac to wma) and wma does not have the clicking sounds. My best guess is that Pandora uses aac to stream music.

On a bionic ics leak 232 aokp rom.

General :: Streaming Music From One Android Phone To Another?

Apr 20, 2013

I have my primary android phone (Nexus 4) and an old android phone (MyTouch 4g). I would like to set up an "AirPlay" like system on a nice (but outdated) stereo system using DLNA. I was thinking about doing this by using my primary phone as the Digital Media Server (DMS), and my old android phone as the Digital Media Player (DMP).

See Digital Living Network Alliance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for more info on DLNA.

The primary phone - DMS, would be used to send the music to the old phone - DMP, which would then output the music via 3.5mm jack into the aux on my stereo. The only downfall I can think of to this setup would be the fact that I would have to dedicate a phone to the stereo, but that's not a problem because I don't use it anyway!

General :: Which Android Device To Stay In A Car For Radio Streaming

Jul 15, 2012

I'd like to install an Android device (tablet, smartphone, computer or whatever) into my car.

The purpose is to listen to internet radios and to be able to switch between those radios using my toyota car player which handles bluetooth/A2DP/avrcp .The app I would use is xiialive. This device would have his own sim card and should stay in the car. I don't want to plug the device each time I enter in my car, push any button or whatever. I would just like that the fact to put the key in my car would connect automatically to a webradio.

In fact I don't really need to see the screen, the device could stay hidden somewhere inside the car.Here are the features I would like :

- auto boot when I turn on the car, which means when the device receives power from the usb port (my car has an usb port)
- plug an external antenna to get a better reception while driving. I'm thinking of a small android computer with a 3G stick plugged in. I have a 3G stick with an external antenna slot. Or any smartphone with an external antenna slot, but I haven't found one so far.
- eventually auto power down when I turn off the car, but If the device shutdowns when the battery is empty, it could be ok too

General :: Playing Music On PC (windows / Linux) From Android (no Streaming)

Jan 22, 2013

I've been looking around for a solution to this - and so far have only found Gmote to be close to what I'm looking for. Actually Gmote hits it on the head, but I wanted to see if there were other options. Here's the setup:

We have a soundboard and speaker system. I would like to hook up a small PC (running either windows or Linux) to the soundboard so that whatever is playing from the computer will come through the speakers. And to control what gets played from the computer, I would like to use my Android phone.

I would consider streaming from my phone if it was reliable enough. I had first looked into streaming to the system via bluetooth - but that wasn't quite stable enough and dropped out too many times.

General :: Media Streaming Over LAN

Dec 26, 2012

I have a rooted Nexus 7 on 4.2.1 and (I think it happened since the last update to 4.2.1) have a total impossibility of playing ANY media files over my local network... Whether it's a movie or even an MP3, every single one of my players tell me "sorry this video cannot be played". I can see the file on EF explorer (tried also with a bunch of other explorers, same problem), I can copy it onto my tablet over wifi, but impossible to play the damn file directly like I used to 2 or 3 weeks ago...

I bought a Kobo Arc for my girlfriend (on ICS) and it has no problem streaming anything instantly, even 720p 6gb movies... but when I get my Nexus 7 , nope can't do it anymore

I've tried tons of players (MX, BS, Dice, VLC...etc), tons of files explorers, looked through the file explorers settings...etc etc, but nothing that could get me my media streaming over wifi again...

It's not a huge issue or anything, but it's rather annoying to have to transfer every single media file on the tablet before actually being able to watch/listen to it..

General :: Streaming 1080p Over WiFi

Aug 12, 2012

Device 1) Samsung Galaxy S3, Quad Core A9, Mali 400
Device 2) iPad 3, Dual Core A9, PowerVR 4 core

Networking: Dual band router (situated 1 metre away), gigabit server plugged into gigabit switch

(I can stream 1080p on my PC and Macbook Pro fine (due to stronger CPU's vs ARM design?))

Both mobile devices can stream 720p fine

I get issues when trying to stream 1080p. Obviously the Galaxy S3 only has a 720p screen anyway, but I still wanted to see if it was possible

I have tried multiple programs on both devices. At 1080p, the iPad can only stream the audio. No picture. The Galaxy S3 is able to stream both audio and video, although the video is choppy

What is the bottleneck here? Is it due to poor software? Or are the ARM A9 CPU's too weak for this kind of thing? I know they can play local 1080p content perfectly fine, but there seems to be issues with network content.
