General :: How To Control Android Devices From PC Without Streaming Screen
Jan 16, 2013
I am looking for an app that can remote control my phone from my pc without streaming the screen.
I have an Xperia that connects to my TV via HDMI & I don't have any wireless mouse/keyboard. So I need a way to control it from my PC with a decent speed. I just need basic nagivation buttons, home/menu/back or mouse support if possible...

I did a search and all I came up with is people trying to stream audio via bluetooth. One of the nice features I am a little envious of the ipods having is that about every stereo out there has an interface to control the ipod remotely. Is there anything similar available that works via the USB for android devices?

Is there any way to control from outside an Android which screen has become nuts ?
I have a chinesse phone ( and MTK 6573) which touch screen has become nuts (most of it has become unresponsive and often a continuos touch imput is detected in the center-left side of the screen). So, it has become useless...
The thing is, I would like to access to it, in any way, to recover some of the data I have on it. Also, becouse I try to disasemble, volumen key seem not working. How could I connect to it ?
I tought of the mimobiler, but I need to enable it trought touch and hadn't been able I tought backing up and restoring in another mobile (an MTK6577), but volumen key not working for ColckWorkRecovery would be to control it from mouse or similar, in a way that does not affect the missfuncionality of the touch screen (should be disable I presume). But anything that allows me to recover the saved phones (several got stored in mobile instead of google account), and a couple of apps data (a fianace data and a notes app) would be great something like remote-titanium-backup ?

I have to say that an user profile is a must have feature in an education. So no devices under android 4.2 aren't possible, because there must be an option to use "student profile" in a device to prevent any installation from an user.
1) If i have several devices (like 50 Android devices, Android 4.2 or later), what is the easiest way to manage them all at the same time?
- wifi?
- sync application for this?
- administration profile?
2) Do I have to make an account for each devices in GooglePlay or can I add them all under one account? How can i buy and install apps for each devices?
3) And does the Allshare offer sharing a screen with several devices?
How to manage several devices easiest wat - administration, installing/deleting apps, emptying devices (for example photos/videos...)...Or is it just better to choose iPad with a sync case? Im more interested in Android tablets because they offer much more for less money (example Galaxy Note serie). But I have no idea how to manage them all at the same time.

I've came up with a concept of new type of "keyboard" for touchscreen devices (target: mobile phones), the tests went really great, and I am now patenting it.I'm not allowed to post links, please search "swipewheel" in youtube.

(Galaxy note 2, Sungsonic ROM)
When streaming from Grooveshark in a web-browser, the audio-streaming stops (after finishing current song) when the screen shuts/locks. I have tried several browsers with the same result.
Audio-streaming from audio-specific apps (i.e. TuneIn) works just fine.
Someone mentioned somewhere that it has to do with the browsers not being set to over-ride the screen-lock.

I cannot seem to find a way to put music controls for Google Play Music on my home screen. I can put a link to a specific playlist and I can put the Google SoundSearch widget on my home screen but not an actual widget that allows me to quicklly pause play skip etc. It shows up on my lockscreen but I see no option for the home screen. Am I missing something?
I know the playback controls are now available in the notification pane but having to swipe down is an extra step. I seem to remember a widget before....

However, Android screen cast is a cross-phone program.Android screen cast is a java program that allows you to connect to your Android phone through an USB connection. I think you need ADB and root access for this.
I am searching for something like this that also supports German charakters like umlaute.

I am not sure, if this is the correct platform to talk about it, however I would like to know something about 'How Android supports the large screen display'. I mean here that suppose I want to port the Android SDK to a large portable device having a large display as compared to HTC G1 mobile screen, what all the OS modules (e.g surface manager, kernel: display driver etc) I need to look upon/modify.I guess what I am asking here is not a new subject as I can already see by below links that the Android OS is ported for large screen devices.
1. http://www.icpdas-usa.com/vp_23a1.html Specifications & Additional Information Models VP-23A1 VP-25A1 System Software OS Android 1.5 SDK Provided Standard ViewPAC SDK for Windows and Linux by GNU C language CPU Module CPU PXA270 or compatible (32-bit and 520 MHz) SRAM 128 MB
2. ARCHOS 5 Internet tablet shown on http://www.marketwatch.com/story/archos-brings-the-android platform-t... and on http://www.archos.com/products/imt/index.html?country=in〈=en as.
Let me know your opinion about it, any kind of clue will be appreciated.

In Javascript/jQuery, how can I detect if the client device has a mouse?
I've got a site that slides up a little info panel when the user hovers their mouse over an item. I'm using jQuery.hoverIntent to detect the hover, but this obviously doesn't work on touchscreen devices like iPhone/iPad/Android. So on those devices I'd like to revert to tap to show the info panel.

Using VideoView, however, I am able to play the same RTSP link but not in full size. DavidSparks I am attaching a cc to you cos I have seen a similar kind of issue in your name. Can anyone help me in playing a full screen RTSP video. The Youtube application in G1 does so.

How does Android handle scaling of a video being played within a VideoView?
So for example if I have a video that is say 480 X 270 (width and height), aspect ratio 16:9. And, say the VideoView is added to a LinearLayout with LayoutParams of (480, 270). What will be width and height of the rendered video in portrait orientation in a device that is 320 X 480? In landscape? In another device that is 320 X 550?

In my Alarm App, if user set the alarm, the alarm Dialog will be shown at the set alarm time.
but if device(phone) was in lock and screen off, I can't see the alarm dialog.
I need to write code to the alarm dialog will be shown automatically although the device(phone) is screen off(and locked).
I see the source code about AlarmClock in Donut SDK.
It is use the code like below: getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_TURN_SCREEN_ON);
but the FLAG_TURN_SCREEN_ON is only available in SDK 2.0 or later.
I just only use Donut(SDK 1.6).
How can i Screen on & unlock in Donut(SDK 1.6)?

As you know android today is many versions many constructors, many screen sizes,...
it's quite difficult for developers today to write programs that targets a big part of devices.
What would be THE developer must-know practices for this ?

I was toying around with different ways of turning the screen on and off and of course Wakelocks show up quite alot in this discussion. From what I gather, I can acquire a wakelock (partial or full) to turn the screen on and keep it on for the whole duration my app (or service) is running, and then release it to turn the screen off. My question is on the huge issue of battery consumption surrounding wakelocks. As long as I make sure to to acquire it just to keep the screen on and release it to turn the screen off (or when the screen turns off), battery consumption should be minimal right? The wakelock's only there when the screen is on so it will definitely let the phone go into deep sleep when the screen's off but does the wakelock actually consume battery itself while it's acquired? Or is all the fuss just bad programming (leaving the wakelock on when the screen turns off, etc.)?

How do you control the screen being on or off during a call? My screen blanks, I guess to keep you from hitting buttons with your ear, but when using a bluetooth headset it also blanks. Sometimes tilting the phone wakes the display, sometime the top button does. But sometimes neither hs an effect, and the screen remains off until the call is over. Anyone else have this, and figure it out? Are there settings somewhere to control this behavior?

I am developing my am on mac (10.5.8), on eclipse and SDK 1.6 and a Vodafone HTC Magic Everything was working ok up to a few days ago. I can not see my device on adb devices. I also got a Sony Xperia and I can not see it on the list either. I upgraded the phone software (the HTC) to 1.6 a few days ago. Maybe that is what caused the change, but I could not be sure.
