General :: Software Limitation On Rapid Keystrokes?

Does Android limit the rate of keystrokes when typing?
I have a custom bluetooth keyboard that can send entire sentences at once. On iOS, the text appears pretty much instantaneously. On Android, when I send the sentence it kinds of scrolls through and types it out, taking about a second to actually type out the entire sentence.
Basically instead of typing out the entire sentence at once, the text is entered one letter at a time with a little delay in between.
Is there a way to disable this keystroke limit? I would like to be able to type entire sentences quickly.

Starting yesterday I noticed that my battery was draining faster than usual, the phone having died after being used for half the day, when it typically makes it the full day. Nothing was being used more or less, and all of the application managers and battery life charts indicated that everything was running as normal. Then this morning after having the phone charged for the entire night, it tells me that on the remaining battery life the phone will only last about 7 minutes, and the percentage is dropping rapidly (about a percent every 30 seconds) .

I have an LG Optimus G Pro. Suddenly it started saying letters out loud as I type them, even when my phone is on silent. How do I make it stop? Its not the talk back feature as that is turned off and its only the keystrokes that are being said.

Is there anyway I can make my Right Thumbstick on my controller act like it's pressing letters, rather then a proper analog stick? (i.e. if I move the Right Thumbstick around in a circle, then I want to see letters come up, as if I were typing them.)
I've been trying to use USB/BT Joystick Center for this, but I'm having a little trouble. When I bring up the edit mode, while in the DS emulator the app still treats the right thumbstick as a proper analog stick, even though I re-mapped the right stick in the main app to letters (R stick UP-M, R stick RIGHT- N, R stick - DOWN O, R stick - LEFT P)
Are there any apps that will allow me to map keystrokes to a analog stick, and be able to emulate virtual on screen controls for games, and emulators?

Little background: Before updating to 2.1 the battery would usually last about a day or a day and a half with moderate use(phone, texting, and social websites).I updated to 2.2 and battery drained very fast; so I hard reset and disabled Wi-Fi which helped, but still drained within a day with less than my average use(if I forgot to plug in the charger, it would be dead in the morning).I've since rooted and switched to Virtuous 2.7 with the custom kernel; which seemed to help out(with my "2.2" usage the battery life was about 16-20hrs...Wi-Fi disabled, now it's around 20-24hrs).What I noticed with the 2.2 update is "irregular" battery drainage. It would go to down to about 70%-80% fairly quick, but drain much more slowly down to about 40%, and then drain quickly to about 15%.Just a while ago, I unplugged the phone from the charger(It had finished charging earlier and I unplugged and plugged the charger again to make sure it's "topped off"), and drops to 98% in about a minute(zero use).I fire up the youtube app and watch Katy Perry's Teenage Dream(I don't like her singing but hey, it's a catchy song), and by the end of the song it's at 89% battery life. Anyone know what's causing this or know if this is normal?

About a week ago, at random times, my Incredible will become "Incredibly" hot in my pocket, and the battery begins to drain at a rapid rate (from nearly 90%+ to <20% in an hour). This seems to be accompanied by an icon resembling a "refresh" symbol at the top of the screen (a circle consisting of two arrows).I can't determine any common denominator as to when this takes place, it seems pretty random.I added Google voice and Shazam to my phone just prior to this problem beginning, but have noticed no usage relation. Please feel free to direct me to another thread / lock if this has already been discussed.

I'm really loving the Swype beta on my HTC EVO, but when I'm typing it can be loud and annoying, especially since I can set the stock keyboard to silent. The only way I can quiet Swype is by setting my phone's ringer volume to Vibrate or Silence. Is there a menu within Swype that will let me silence the keystrokes?

I'm trying to setup a KeyListener on an EditText widget. My code is as follows: Where mMsgToSend is my EditText widget. The problem is that whenever I implement this code, everything stops showing up in my EditText widget. Anything I type does not show up in the widget. When I set a break point in my code everything is executing as I would expect it to. If I do not have the code in place, everything shows up in the widget as I type. My understanding is that if you want everything to be handled normally then you return a "false" from the event handlers otherwise you return a "true".

running with the moto droid - since the latest update, my phone is chronically opening apps every few seconds and it is destroying my battery. before the update, i would have to kill maybe 3-4 apps over an extended period of time. now it takes about 1 minute and i'm killing 10-15 apps. any reason for this happening? how can i fix it? it's getting annoying when my battery life is terrible. i don't know a whole lot about the phone.

How can I best implement a system for send keystrokes/commands via an iPhone and/or Droid to a desktop or laptop computer via WiFi or bluetooth? There are apps for VLC, Keynote and other applications that do this, so I know it's possible but don't know what technology base to use. The implementation is probably different on Windows and OS X, but if they could be similar that'd be a big win. If VNC-type technology is used, that'd be fine but I only need to send key commands and mouse clicks—I don't need to be able to navigate the screen space.

When typing really fast in Landscape mode on my HTC Incredible I am noticing that the default HTC Incredible keyboard misses about 30% of my keystrokes. This is annoying, especially since I type faster in landscape than in portrait, yet the faster I type, the more keystrokes get missed.
Missed keystrokes seems to rarely occur, if ever, in portrait mode even if I type relatively fast.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is it due to graphic-lag, lack of multi-touch typing or some setting?
I've tried Shapewriter, SwipeIT, Swype, Better Keyboard, and Smart Keyboard and have found either their layout sucks and/or they miss significantly more keystrokes than TouchInput does in Landscape.

It might sound lazy, but I am looking for a better/faster way (other than voice, which only works in quiet areas) to dial someone in my contacts. I am coming from BlackBerry, where I used to tap out the first few letters in the first OR last name and it would quickly narrow to the desired contact. Then click 'send. Each of these can take several or many "keystrokes." Also, for some reason if I type several keystrokes of a first or last name, it only recognizes a name if that contact happens to be indexed according to that part of name. For example, if John Doe is indexed as Doe, John, then typing out J-O-H...does not bring up John Doe. But for some crazy reason the indexing for my contacts got screwed up so half of them are sorted by first name and the other half by last name (so changing the Options settings doesn't get them all indexed correctly). Also because there are so many choices (using Contacts, using the dialer, using the search box on the homescreen, etc.) there isn't just one clear best way.

Is it possible to prevent the screen from locking? Right now, I have to wake the phone, then unlock the screen. Waste of time.
Also, it is a minimum five key press to make a call. Wake > Unlock > Dialer > Favorites > Person. Is it possible to have one-touch calling from the home screen?

I've been looking at android phones for a while now and I like many other people are looking forward to the Droid X. The problem I'm having as a current Blackberry user is email. I've read an article on androidcentral.com that mentions the limitations of POP3 email on the android OS. They also provide a link to a possible fix by having gmail sync with the POP3 email but gmail will only do so once an hour. With that said is there any other options? I manage a number of websites myself and have a few web servers.
Email is a must to keep in touch with clients and having to wait an hour in between replies would never ever fly. I currently have the Tour, which of course has the horrible trackball, but I'm debating on getting the Droid X (so long as I can get POP3 every 2-3 minutes) or upgrading to the Bold 9650. Having all the cool new features of the Droid X would be neat but certainly not a need. POP3 email and battery life - those are the two things that are a must.

Lost tunes? The stock Music app on my Motorola Droid running Android 2.0.1 was able to play ~200MB of .wma files which it found automagically. I was initially impressed that no configuration was required. After I uploaded more .wma files (I have 7.4GB of them now) neither the stock Music app nor several independent apps can see any of them. This is true even if I use settings to narrow the world to one album's worth of music.
Have I overloaded the capacity of the android's music API? Is my Droid allergic to music ripped by Zune? I may have to remove albums one by one and keep trying the player to see if there is a bad file, deep directory tree or special character that is bombing it out.

I think I am finding what I think is a significant limitation in the way the resource directory qualifiers (-hdpi, -v4, -en, etc) work. I have three directories: drawable-hdpi-v4, drawable-ldpi-v4, and drawable (for normal screens and phones running 1.5). I have image X that I want to have a high resolution version of in the hdpi directory and a default one in the plain "drawable" directory. I also have image Y that I would like Android to upscale, or downscale depending on the screen size and only want to manage one image file located in the "drawable" directory. This is to save file size because I don't need crisp resolution for 240dpi phones and also so I don't have to create three versions of ALL images if I want Android to handle the scaling.
I am finding that using post-v4 emulators with 240dpi screens with Eclipse, they get confused with this "hybrid" directory structure and choose to treat all images the same way. i.e. if image Y is found in the "drawable" folder and not in "hdpi", it correctly displays it upscaled and then goes and sees that there is both an image X in "drawable" and "drawable-hdpi-v4" and chooses one of them at random and upscales whichever one it picks the same way it scaled Image Y. So, if it decides to use the high-res version it blows it up even bigger when it didn't have too as if it was found in the "drawable" directory. Do I have to have all of my resources in the "drawable" directory and let Android scale things or have three times the number of image files by having resources in all three directories to make sure all resources are found and treated consistently? I am hoping this is some weird emulator bug that does not reflect how the real OS would treat things.

Saw this reply to an email inquiry regarding the FPS cap issue over at AC:
I just got email from HTC:
Hi, I am Danielle and I would be happy to assist you today. You were wondering about the cap on 30 FPS on your HTC EVO 4G. Since this Android device employs a unique HDMI output to deliver video in HD quality to an external display, the hardware graphics driver interface uses significant resources for the HDMI output and therefore displays graphics at 30 frames per second on the integrated display. It's important to keep in mind that content including most movies and television, are created to run at between 24 and 30 frames per second. We have found that some games may be impacted by this limitation.
The HTC EVO 4G has been locked to 30 FPS. This should not present a major issue for most Android applications; however, you may have some issues with some 2D or 3D applications. The 30 FPS has been locked to enhance overall performance in the device. By lowering the FPS of the device the CPU works less. This increases the battery life of the device. The 30 FPS is set but we have decided to look into the possibility of overcoming this limitation by software changes. HTC plans to announce its findings when we complete our investigation. I thank you for contacting HTC and please feel free to send another email if you have any other questions.

Is it true that if you have a ViewGroup, say a RadioGroup, you can't align items outside the group to ones inside the group (using toRightOf, alignTop, etc.) That is, does toRightOf, toLeftOf and the rest only work with views at the same hierarchy level? I was trying to label some vertical radio buttons today and find I can only align to the RadioGroup and not the buttons inside the group.
If I remove the RadioGroup, then I can align things OK. There are lots of workarounds, of course, so I'm not stuck. Just thought I'd ask and document. And, BTW, where is the hot sh*t resource editor for Android so I can bang out screens quickly like the iphone guys, using a visual interface designer that knows all these silly interactions? The tools I've seen so far have been toys.

It seems there is a general voice search / voice recognition issue with non-english languages. The problem is basically that punctuation is written in plain and not recognized. It seems to affect a number of devices (if not all?) running ICS / JB.
So period will write "period" and not "." .
Same for comma that will end in writing "comma" and not ",".
(this of course in each different Language)
This basically makes the voice recognition totally unusable and useless for anything but English. So far, this issue has been reported with the following languages:
French
German
Spanish
Italian
I'm not allowed to post links yet but if you go to Android official project page, in the Issues and search for punctuation, you'll basically see all those.
