Sprint HTC Hero : Running Apps After Exitting It - Still Running In Background
Oct 19, 2009I noticed that if i dont use the app to kill running apps after i exit them they are still running in the background is this normal for the Android? I am coming from Pre so not sure if they are killed when exited.

Nov 4, 2010I've created a class which is an extension of Thread. This class hits a web service and throws some data on screen. I don't care about persisting this data (the screen displays search results).
Currently, the user simply types into an EditText and clicks a search button. I'd like to take away the search button and implement something similar to Google's Instant Search where, as you type, the search results get updated.
This means, as the user types, the search parameters change. I want to be able to kill the currently running thread (if one is currently running) and spawn a new one with the new search string. How can this be achieved? Can I do it with Thread or will I need to use a new object?

Its not rooted. 400Mb used seems to be excessive as apart from Jelly Bean theres only 15 apps on ROM, using about 30Mb with the rest on external SD. there is no method to find whats hogging the space on ROM without rooting the phone, or is there?

Feb 6, 2012My company is considering the purchase of an Android app (minimum Andriod 2.1) for our salesforce and wants to buy some Android tablets to run it. Regarding its functionalities, we're talking about an app that collects barcodes through the tablet camera and sends them to our network using our VPN over 3G network.
Mi idea was to wait a few months more and instead of buying the tablets, renew the laptops and buy some W8 tablets and run the application over them and that's where I have a couple of doubts:
1) How can I emulate Android in Windows 7/8?
2) Is there any possibility for the emulator to recognize both the tablet camera and the 3G SIM for communications?
General :: Running Same App Multiple Times
Aug 2, 2012What I would like to do is to run 2 instances of an application or more. The issue is that I am using an RDP program that allows me to attach to a single connection, the kick is that I need the ability to toggle between those machines and the app does not do that natively. I can also see it being useful for a situation when you need to toggle between two documents that are both open with the same application.
I know that it is really not made to do this natively but if there is are ROMs that include that functionality or a way to alter android to do this. In addition, it would be great to be able to tell the system which applications can and can't function that way.
I currently have a nexus 7, transformer prime and transformer infinity to test this with.
General :: PC Running XP Won't Recognize Nexus 4
Feb 18, 2013My work desktop running XP won't recognise my Nexus 4 when connected via USB. Have looked through various threads to try and find the answer and subsequently tried different USB ports, different cables etc but still comes up with the "found new hardware" wizard when plugged in. The cable and phone work when plugged into my laptop running Windows 7 so guess the problem must be with the desktop setup. The phone does charge when plugged into the desktop but the device is not recognised and I therefore do not have the option to explore.

Aug 15, 2013I have a custom built PVR for XBMC that runs flawlessly on my PC, Macbook Pro, Nexus 7 tablet and Nexus S phone. The addon installs successfully on both my Jynx XD and Jynx HD but when I enable the addon after activating the PVR service I get the 'unexepected error' messages and the addon disables it self.
Is there a specific reason it should work on my Nexus 7 tablet and Nexus S phone and not on my Jynxbox's? I was under the impression that a armeabi-v7a compiled library should work on all supported devices? Is this a wrong assumption?

Jun 6, 2013The problem is that if I go to manage apps > running apps, I see Media process (DownloadService) always running! that could drain my battery and/or download data, in any case I don't see a point in having it always running, so I would like to get rid of it!
what I discovered so far is that the process is related to both gapps and Downloadprovider.apk package included in any CM10.1 build, in fact:
1. the process starts appearing only after installing the gapps (I use a very minimal 4.2 gapps package, about 10mb only)
2. if I delete Downloadprovider.apk package from /System/App, the process doesn't appear anymore
The problem is that if I delete the Downloadprovider.apk package then I start getting gapps related FC's and phone becomes unstable (and very probably will not be possible to download anymore things from the browser and/or play store)!
So what could I do to safely get rid of that process? Maybe disable or freeze some other apps/processes? But I wouldn't know what to disable exactly..
Maybe it was related to Maps since I installed maps 7.x I don't see that process anymore!
General :: Running Sh Script On Background
Oct 17, 2011I wrote some sh script to my device which has to run for a long period of time. I wanted to run the script on the background so i run the script with "&" but for some reason the script freeze whenever the device is getting into standby mode.I made some testing script (called testcode.sh) which simply count seconds to see what happen

It has been $i sec since the script started" done.I run the script from a terminal (./testcode.sh &) and saw the counter start counting, i then put the device to standby mode (short press on the power button) and waited for 10 min. after 10 min i open the device and saw that the counter still counts but the time was 3 min (180 sec).
So i guess the script kept running for 3 min then hang for some reason and resume when the device got off standby mode.Is there a way to make my script keep on running ?
General :: Prevent App From Running In Background?
Jan 25, 2012What exactly can keep an app running in the background, regardless of what efforts your take to disable it?
If I don't use an app much and don't want it running, I normally freeze the app. If it is an app I tend to use a bit more frequently, I take other measures such as an app manager that allows me to be extremely precise as to how and when it should run such as on startup, battery level, configuration change, application change, etc. I really don't have the time to do this for every application.
With that said, I'm wondering what other methods, other than freezing and the other mentioned above, I can take to prevent an app from running in the background?
I will give you a perfect example...
There are some third-party apps I have downloaded that I know I will use occasionally. One example is CamScanner. For the life of me, I can't get this app to stop running in the background without extensive efforts mentioned above. No matter what I do, it just pops up again in running applications.
How can I ensure the app will not run in background while not resorting to freezing the app, which will prevent me from quickly accessing it when needed?

Sep 28, 2012Apparently 4.0.4 auto resets recovery if you try to flash a different one.
I just got my memory card, looking forward to root/mess with my tab, but when I used Odin to flash CWM and Rebooted the device, its still the stock recovery.
I was told I could flash 4.0.3 and go from there but GT-P3113_XAR_1_20120412104938_ldcgx9tzmx.zip Is a zip file and not recognized by odin, What do I do now?
I unzipped the archive, inside wan an MD5 recognized by odin, currently trying to flash that.

May 30, 2012I just got my new galaxy note (i717) on friday (immediately flashing it with OnlyOne beta 2 (ics)) and I would like to use it for a bit of podcasting using the front camera to record myself while I read text from some teleprompter software.
I can record video from the front camera just fine, and it actually comes out a bit higher quality than I expected even, but for the life of me, when i hit the record button and then switch away from the camera app to the prompter app, it gives me an audio notification that the camera has stopped recording.
is there prompter software that has an integrated video recorder? (that'd be pretty sweet imho) or better, some way to record video while another app (that's not particularly resource intensive) is in use? - I don't mind trimming and cutting the video together (there are actually some pretty decent editing tools for android i've found) but I can't figure out a way to record and prompt at the same time...
General :: Installing ROM After ROM - Running Out Of HD Space
Mar 20, 2013best way to retain internal storage space after installing rom after rom.I've tried to install quite a few roms over the past couple of weeks, and have noticed that the available HDD space on the phone's internal memory is becoming less and less each time. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to the types of files the device (and current rom) need to run, so was wondering if there are any easy ways of telling which folders/files are needed and which ones aren't? Or, if there are particular folder(s) where old rom's data is kept that I could delete?
I'm using a Galaxy Note 2, which came with the Navigon app pre-installed by Samsung. The new custom rom I've installed doesn't have this app (and I don't want it) but I noticed there is still a folder on the phone called "Navigon", which I don't need. Deleting this folder freed up 0.25GB!... I'm wondering if there are any other easy (general) folders like this that I could delete?
My phone is down to less than a quarter of its space free and Jellybean doesn't seem to want to let us save apps to the SD..
