General :: Reinstalling Android OS For Unbranded Device?
Oct 6, 2013
I have a Chinese unbranded Android Mobile which comes with Android 4.0.4. But there are several issues with this device. Apps are crashing every now and then. Also if there is a call that I can not answer (goes to Missed call list) thereafter my contact crashes. I have to clear all the contact storage and then even can open the dial pad. Tried to factory reset with no luck.
I want to reinstall the firmware completely. I was looking for ways to do so, mostly I came across posts which talks about firmware release for branded phones. This is not branded and I have searched net, found nothing that talks about such phone. The About Phone shows Model no UC-W7L.
how can I completely reinstall android 4.0.4 on this device?

I have a lemon tab with ics 4.0.3 and 3.0.8 kernal... I have tried all possible ways to root it... Right now the su is there as built in app. The terminal confirmed my tab as unrooted. But if i type system/xbin/su in the terminal, the terminal receive su permission. So i thought i am close to rooting it.
Need to complete it fully. The su is 3.2 version. I used su uninstaller but of no use. Besides i have lost my ideal cwm 5.0.2. 4 zip file and its getting difficult finding a new one fitting my tab.
I don't have a pc. I m using recovery reboot method.

I have rooted my Kyocera Rise recently so that I could install hp beats audio drivers on the phone. Something went wrong during the install and now the audio drivers are corrupted and crash the app whenever it has to create a sound. My question is that since I have heard the kyocera rise is pretty locked down on the rom flashing side, is there anyway that I could reinstall the stock 4.0.4 on the kyocera rise?
when it comes to flashing roms, but am still pretty good with hardware. what I have to do to restore the stock android or what I have to do to flash a stock rom.
F.Y.I. I did do a TB but was an idiot and did not verify the files, and now everything is corrupted.stock drivers in the system folder such as etc and the others, and a TB backup of stock would be even better. A one stop way of restoring android would be fantastic instead of going through all the steps in:

I recently uninstalled my Play Store due to most applications not showing and whenever i search for them it says device is not compatible. So I uninstalled using sd maid since it is a system app and my fone is rooted.
I tried to install a downloadable apk file of play store but to no luck, it always force closes at app launch.Every version of play store i installed are all the same, force closes at application launch.
I also found out that vending.apk or skyphone.apk (whatever you call that) together with its. .odex counterpart is missing.

I had used a root toolkit to root my kyocera rise as rooting by hand has become a pain. Anyways, I had run into an issues where my phone would not run properly (possibly due to malware or the likes) and as such I reset it back to factory data. For months after I had assumed that I did not have root anymore because I had lost the supersu app (stupid me forgot to check root). Recently I realized that in one of my apps that could use root, it was using root and I did not even know it.
Seeing that this would cause some security issues, I quickly installed super su and updated the binaries. From then on, whenever an app tried to request root permission, it would then freeze. I then uninstalled super su and did the unroot setting from software and then planned to reinstall it. When I reinstalled supersu, It complained that it could not install binaries and this was bad.
Anyways, the kyocera rise has a locked bootloader that prevents me from completely flashing over a new copy of the os, which sucks, and now I feel like I am stuck with an unrootable device because I can't seem to reinstall the binaries to allow super su or any other superuser program to work properly. FYI, this is just stock android, nothing fancy about it.

i was wondering if there was a way to re-install every stock application back onto the phone (bloatware and all.) I tried to upgrade to 6.11.748 but 25% through the installation I got the dreaded exclamation point and the phones says installation failed. I believe the problem is due to important missing system apps like Google Books, Guided Tours, etc. I have the full RAZR system dump files on my PC, is there a way to replace all current apps with the ones from the downloaded dump files? Is there a way to find out what system applications are missing and replace only those? I also have a Titanium Backup of my old files, although I am having issues installing system apps back onto the RAZR. Is there a way to force install the 6.11.748 update? I don't care about losing my root access, I am more concerned about the 3G/4G compatibility and camera bug fixes.. Factory resetting and trying the update does not work, unrooting and trying the update does not work, manually installing missing .apk's does not work.

I was uninstalling bloatware from my samsung galaxy victory after rooting, and in the process, accidentally deleted the play store. I re-downloaded the latest .apk for the play store, installed it, and when I open it, it crashes and says "unfortunately, google play store has stopped". I looked up tp see if there were any solutions, and many sources said to gp to settings>app. management>google play>force stop, clear data, clear cache. that didnt work. I tried installing older play store apk's, all giving the same error.

Got my desire today got it from CPW on 3 so it is unbranded. Not had chance to get it out yet having 18 month twins does that, it robs a man of free time. Anyway, I have no idea what I will be facing once I switch on for the first time, but do you reckon the 2.2 update should be first on the list? Or get to grips with 2.1 first. Also, I expected that a SD card would be included with the phone? Not looked at anything yet i.e. instructions but from a quick look, there isn't one there. Not a major issue, SDs are cheap enough on play if it is just the standard type.

I have an Orange UK branded htc hero, I was wondering if its possible to just flash it with a standard un-branded rom? I don't want one of the various "custom" roms floating around as they all seem to have little bits and bobs that don't work properly. I have no issue with my phone i just don't really want to have to wait for Orange to (if ever) write their own versions of the 2 updates for the European hero.

The Desire I obtained from the local 3 Store came in a standard HTC Desire box with no special marking and just the standard HTC quick start guide. I just had a thought that it might be unlocked so I tried Orange, Vodafone and O2 PAYG SIMs. All seem to work giving me phone service but not data. The box is marked HTC Desire A8181. Am I correct in thnking it is unlocked?

I decided to wipe the phone couple days after 2.2 update. I was experiencing severe lag time while typing. Also zooming (double-tap) in browser wouldn't work. Anyway, I cant get appbrain to sync. I installed appbrain on phone and have signed in with same account but none of my apps show up just the pre-installed ones on the phone. When I look on web all my apps still show up in My Apps.

I recently did a factory reset so I could change the gmail address my phone associates with. I did a factory reset because the option to clear data option under Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - Google Apps - Clear Data was not there (I have Sense UI 2.1, don't know if that was the culprit). My question is, is there a way to reinstall my paid apps, without buying them again, since my phone now associates my new gmail address with the market and Google Checkout? Or is there a way for the market to use my old gmail address so i can reinstall these paid apps without paying for them again, and then use the new address? I backed up all my apps with Astro, but for some reason bTunes didn't get back up.

I have purchased several apps through the Google market. Updating to Froyo required a system reset for me so the apps had to be reinstalled from the market. My google checkout and login ID are the same but Google charged me again for the apps and they showed up on my CC. Tried to resolve through google but gave up in frustration trying to find some way to dispute or rectify the situation. I disputed the charge through my CC but I have a feeling that is going to cause more trouble. Surely there is some way this is SUPPOSED to work and a planned way to rectify easily when it does not.

I'm having trouble installing footprints to be specific. I wanted to use it again and when I moved it from my SD card back to the system app folder it won't install. I'm probably not doing something right. But I don't know what it is. I've moved both the app and widget .apk and .odex files but they won't install. I rooted after 2.2 and they are the 1.10 versions.

Basically I have an old iPod touch 2g on iOS 4.x and a Nexus 5.
I want to use my iPod as my media player but I'd like to be able to control music from my Nexus (only basic controls).
Is there an app on either device that allows this? I know tsk skipping can be done by some Bluetooth headphones so I'm hoping there's a way to make iOS accept command from my Nexus

I wounder if anyone else has had this problem. I had a blown pixel on my Desire so i got a new one form T-Mobile. I had backed up my contacts on the SD card and when I reinstalled them to the phone all the numbers have gone into a US style format, for example the number 01345 456732 has become 013-454-56732. These are number copied to the phone and not form the sim.Has this happended to anyone else? I sthere a way of sorting this out without redoing each one?

Is this even possible on non rooted phones? i know on rooted phones you can go in and edit the png files in the .apk meaning you can change the icons for the apps and widgets etc. this caught my interest, being something that i could do as possibly an introduction into the developer side of the eris. just wanted to see if it would be possible to reinstall an edited apk file onto a non rooted phone

I rooted my phone, and deleted the "Camera 1.0" app, thinking that "Camera 1.6" is the latest version of the application. When I deleted "Camera 1.0", video cam functionality ceased (even with third party apps) and basic UI (ie. the side camera button doesn't work anymore) is not fully functional.
Is there a Camera App that can be retrieved anywhere so I may re-install it? Otherwise, Is there anything that can be done to restore everything back to normal? (fyi, I already tried reseting the phone to no success).

I know this goes against the majority here, but the ROM I'm using doesn't include the Amazon MP3 app and I'd really like to have it. Any way for me to get it? I'm using Liquid Frozen Yogurt v1.7.1, so including it in the ROM wasn't an option during the installation process.

I have found that the AD Community ROM acts as if it is a brand new phone, never activated, and runs you through the set up of all your settings - and then proceeds to DL all your apps that you had installed previously.I posted a comment about it at AllDroid - View topic - [Rom] AllDroid Community Beta 0.3 release and got a reply that when someone went back to un-rooted and what not, the OEM ROM did the same thing. So, this led me to believe that there is some particular setting that allows for this to occur, where the ROM being installed is installed in a certain state so as to make the phone think it has never been activated before. This being said, I wondered if other ROMs could be tricked into thinking the same thing - and I hit upon an idea- what if, after installing a new ROM, you go into settings and do the factory reset that is there? Since I don't have anything installed except for this custom ROM and SPRecovery and such, I am not really gonna lose anything by doing this, so why no give it a whirl
