HTC Desire :: Reinstalling Phone Contacts From SD Card
Apr 9, 2010
I wounder if anyone else has had this problem. I had a blown pixel on my Desire so i got a new one form T-Mobile. I had backed up my contacts on the SD card and when I reinstalled them to the phone all the numbers have gone into a US style format, for example the number 01345 456732 has become 013-454-56732. These are number copied to the phone and not form the sim.Has this happended to anyone else? I sthere a way of sorting this out without redoing each one?

Hi,
After saving my contacts to the SD card, resetting the phone, then importing them all back, the numbers are now in the form of 012-345-67891. Does anyone know how to remove the hyphens?
Thanks

My desire is pretty much screwed and reboots whenever it feels like it. I'm trying to move my contacts to another phone for the time being but they aren't stored on the Sim card but I know they are backed up on the SD card. Trouble is the new phone does not have an SD card slot, so I'm trying to view my contacts on the SD card so I can just manually type them in. I've got the SD card plugged into the PC but I can't seem to find a place where they are stored.Any ideas?

I have over 4600 contacts to sync - which takes up too much space on the non-sd storage. I can export the contacts to SD but then Sense cant use them and the phone cant see them - I am just now learning of "rooting" - LOL but I am not convinced this will help with Outlook -- IE wont the app still look in the default directory - same as the phone. I know apps can run from the SD after rooting - but what about contacts - will I lose any functionality? Also - I am in Australia - will Rooting and using the Roms I see in here make my phone not work here?

I just got an HTC Desire that was locked to Telus (Canadian Carrier). I have read that numerous people are using it on Rogers network. From the day I got it when I put my rogers sim card in (the right way) it said "No SIM card in phone" so I could not enter an unlock code. Thinking the SIM was defective went to Telus and tried one of their sim cards and it worked fine, then I went to Rogers thinking it was a problematic card. We tried 4 cards and none of them worked. I then went to Bell (another canadian carrier) and tried their sim card. It worked as well but said that the phone was locked. I purchased an unlock code from the internet which worked. Now the Bell sim card works as well becuase the phone is unlocked. I put my Rogers SIM back into it and it still sais "No SIM card in phone". I also tried a SIM from a european company and it did not work as well. This HTC Desire works on the same 3G 850/1900 GSM that Rogers uses.

How do I copy my contacts to my SIM card on my Samsung Galaxy i7500?
I want to copy my contacts to my SIM card so i can reset it and update it.
But the problem is, in pcs you can copy your contacts from your phone to pcs, but i first have to update it.
But when i update it all my numbers would be lost.
And the second problem is it doesnt want to update my phone.
When i try to update it, it says there has been a problem with the connection with the server.
Could i put a memory card in to my phone and copy my numbers to it?

OK, I have one try left, so I need to make sure I get this right. Here we go; What is the DEFAULT Password for the SIM Card?
Also, are there any advantages to storing your contacts on your Phone and the SIM Card? Currently I have them stored on Google and the Phone.

I've looked everywhere for an answer but I still have my doubts.Maybe a dumb question here, but... if having an ext2 partition + a fat32 on my SD (using apps2sd), does using the formatting option from the phone wipe the ext2 as well? If yes, how can I format only the fat32 one ? (Android 2.1)

My last phone melted and I have to hold my hands up to say I never backed it up or synced it to an external source so when it screwed up I lost a lot of my contacts, not something I want to happen again.
Firstly do I want to save them to my sim or my phone, I would normally guess Sim card but cant they be saved to the SD card ? This would seem to be the best option ? When entering a new contact there is the option to save them to the gmail account that I set up so I could use the android market ? I don?t use gmail as I already have my own domain email accounts that I have had for years and I host through hotmail. As I have the account I am happy to use it as a dumping ground if there is the option of syncing all of my contacts to it ?
Then when I connect to HTC sense it wants to sync my contacts ..... Where is it trying to syc them to? Outlook ? I don?t use outlook but again if it will keep my contacts safe then I can use it for safety. Looking at my contacts there is the option to export to SD card, is this exporting from the sim ? Or from the phone?

On my phone, I have both a "Phone" contact and a "google" contact for each person. Is there any point in keeping/linking the "phone" contacts? Or am I safe to delete them, to just have one version on the phone? Are the google contacts actually stored on the phone?Just trying to figure out if I basically have duplicates that are not needed

My "phone contacts" have simply been wiped out all of a sudden. My Google, SIM and Facebook contacts are there but all 97 of my phone contacts are simply gone! It now shows phone (0). I thought I could sync back from Google but it appears all along they weren't even being synced even though my Google contacts sync was turned on, so I'm still left with nothing. This is one of the most frustrating and ridiculous problems I've ever encountered on any phone. I rely almost entirely on my phone contacts, and I sure as hell do not want to start copying from my SIM all over again because I'd have to filter out so many unused contacts.

I have a new desire. The new Telstra 3G sim mangles the contacts on getting them out of the old Nokia. I can sync the nokia to windows 7 contacts. It would appear that htc sync only looks for the old outlook express windows address book. Is there a fix for this as I can't get the contacts from 1 phone to the other.
