Android :: Reinstalling Paid Applications After Changing Gmail Address
May 12, 2010
I recently did a factory reset so I could change the gmail address my phone associates with. I did a factory reset because the option to clear data option under Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - Google Apps - Clear Data was not there (I have Sense UI 2.1, don't know if that was the culprit). My question is, is there a way to reinstall my paid apps, without buying them again, since my phone now associates my new gmail address with the market and Google Checkout? Or is there a way for the market to use my old gmail address so i can reinstall these paid apps without paying for them again, and then use the new address? I backed up all my apps with Astro, but for some reason bTunes didn't get back up.

This is my first forum. The first thing i would like to find out how to do is how to send some of my paid applications to my friends or family etc. through email (Gmail). A couple of weeks ago my friend sent me an IM he had paid for but he refuses to tell me how to do it. This was something i had no idea you can do but i guess i was wrong.

I originally setup my Droid with my Google Apps account as primary. A few months ago I decided to buy a paid app in the Market and couldn't do so using my Google Apps account. Reluctantly, I added my Google Account as a secondary account on my phone, which allowed me to purchase apps in the Market. Now that I can finally use Google Checkout with my Google Apps account, I would like to remove my Google Account from my phone, since I'm tired of being prompted to select an account each time I create a new contact. Will removing my secondary account affect apps that are already installed? What about when updates become available for these apps in the Market?

Does anyone know how to delete all phone data from google so that when i perform a factory reset that my settings and applications DO NOT get reinstalled? Normally the reason to do a factory reset is to start fresh.

The Gmail address book on the Web contains a field for birthdays, so why not the Android address book? While I'm sure the app could undergo a lot of changes (and everyone would have different ideas) something as basic as a birthday seems obvious.

I'd like to spoof the MAC address on my G1, is there a way to do it without having root access? I'm running RC33, and I'm thinking there might be a way to do it using adb, has anybody tried this yet?

Some of my friends at the contact list are also my friends at work. And I added their work emails to their contact profile. Now for those contacts they have 2 email addresses. Work and private. The problem is. How can I change that work email address to be primary address? Now if i link contacts with Facebook the primary email address is always their private mail, but for those working friends I want to change that primary address to be works email address.

Is there a dedicated list for developers who have paid apps in Android Market? It would be best if that list has at least 1 *Google* (not Android, i.e. I don't need it to be technically savvy) employee able to give sensible answers to WTF questions related to the Market and paid apps?

Are there any plans to implement some sort of group/team to review the applications before they're released onto the Market?I've never written anything for iPhone but from what I've read there's at least some quality control in place an application has to go through some sort of review process before it's made available for public consumption, I believe. So why not do that here?Let's be honest there are some great programs out there, and there's absolute crap.some of these are borderline scams.I can think of a few apps that have great descriptions but when you download them, they're nothing more than slideshows or something similar.I've even seen the feedback for one of these applications which said that you have to wait 24 hours before it will work which is, as we all know, the time at which the sale is final and no refund is given. If that's not a dodgy practice I don't know what is.I know it's still an early stage in the game for the platform but it's got a lot of potential - we wouldn't be here if it wasn't, would we? The only way to draw more quality developers to the platform is to implement some sort of control. it seems like it's the wild west here.

I linked a contact from my gmail to a contact that was transferred in from my old phone (lg rumor 2). Now the contacts name doesn't show up. Instead, the full gmail address (aka [a bunch of gibberish] @gmail.com). How do I change the name on the address book to use the old phone contact instead of the gmail contact name? I tried adding a nickname to the gmail contact under "edit contact" but all if did was change how the person's name shows up on gmail chat on my computer.

I have had a free version of my app available for several months. With the new features I am about to release in the latest version, and with paid apps now possible, I intend to split the app into a free lite/trial version and a paid full version.I am aware that I must create a new app with a new signature for the full version b/c I can't change the current free app to a paid one.I don't mind this, but,is there any way I can transfer the thousands of feedback and ratings I have accumulated so far to the paid version even though it will have a totally new signature?

Something happened that should've never happened and now I have to make a new google account and try to rebuild everything. Gmail, igoogle, voice, etc. I did some poking around, but it seems no one has ever asked about any way of transferring paid apps from one google account to another. Is this possible, or am I now $20+ in the hole on apps I can no longer use on top of everything else that has happened? For some reason, google flags things that the built-in search can't catch. Transfer Paid Apps to a New Phone?

There's another warez site ripping off the paid versions of my apps from the Google Market(as well as other developers paid apps) - all the usual ignoring stuff when contacting to remove apps. I have to accept that some of my apps get pirated(that haven't used the licensing service & proguard), but What particularly gets my goat about this site, is that the owner is apparently *charging* for full access to the ripped off apps! See: http://www.droidphonefiles.com/Join.html and a list of ripped apps: http://www.droidphonefiles.com/Apps.html And the usual market spamm comments attached to such a warez site promoted by the author (AndroLib is useful here to easily list the spam user) http://www.androlib.com/android.comment.author.amy-DEFAq.aspx Any ideas what I can do? Or does Googles team care about this kind of activity?

Some have complained about not being able to change the LED or get repeat notifications for gmail. I stumbled on this last night and thought I would share. I haven't tried it and make no claims to its greatness.Gmail Notifier. It lets you change the color of the LED, vibration length, and gives repeat notifications. It also works for multiple gmail accounts I believe.

I want to change the email address the phone is set up to. But I have a niggling suspicion doing so requires a factory reset. First things first, please tell me if that's wrong and I'll be happy. If however I'm right, What's the best way to go about saving everything? If I download a backup program, will it store all my settings, apps etc or just data on the SD card? And will changing the email address bugger something up and stop me from restoring the backup? I wouldn't put it past google.

I'm a winmo convert and just setting up my new Desire. All pretty good so far. I'd like to be able to change the from / reply to address on an account in the the Mail application (as opposed to the Gmail one) but can't find an option to. I have mail from my primary account forwarding to my gmail account which syncs with the Desire and I want to be able to reply using my primary address rather than the gmail one.

solve the issue on the android ICS Wifi Mac address , here are the problems
1) NVRAM warning Err 0x10
2) Wifi always disconnect after able to obtain IP and browse internet a few seconds
3) Noticed that the MAC address last 6 digits are always changing, like 00:08:22:XX:XX:XX after I enable/disable the wifi
4) IPLINK SHOW ETH0 -- error: Can't find device 'eth0' , but WLAN0 is present
5) NetCfg command shows only Lo, wlan0, tunl0,sit0,ip6tnl0,ccmni0,ccmni1,ccmni2. but the Eth0 is not present?
Those problems originally found at the original rom. I have downloaded another similar rom but still not okay.
I downloaded the MIUI rom but only updates the system.img, recovery.img, boot.img. other image files were the same. The WIFI errors are still there.

I have read on the market support that "If you have previously published an application for free, you cannot change it to have a price". But I was wondering, if at the contrary I change my app from paid to free and some time after I want to re change it from free to paid! Can I? And if yes, Have I to wait some period (I have read something like this in the contract)?

So my wife joined me and got herself a hero. She used her old gmail address when she first logged onto her new Hero. Now she wants to change the master email address to her new gmail account. So far I got the "mail" app to transfer into the new account. However when we go to google talk it still shows her as signed in on her old account. Is there an easy fast way to change the master email address without having to do a factory reset? She doesn't care if she loses any apps if people are wondering.

I got myself a Chinese clone of a galaxy S3 (alps 7102), it has Android's Jelly Bean 4.1.1 operating system on it.
It keeps on changing its wi-fi mac address on reboot which I guess I could put up with, I have seen other posts with similar problems on varying phones and have tried to fix it, as per the methods described for them, but I cant seem to get a fix that works, for my phone I am not very familiar with the android operating system but have some experience with linux.
The phone doesn't seem to have a bootloader as I have tried to boot the phones bootloader with the adb command "adb reboot- bootloader" from my pc but it just boots as usual, I have done a factory reset to the phone as per the instructions from the ebayer that I bought the phone from but that didn't fix it (as you might have guessed) but it did reset the phones serial number to 0123456789ABCDEF which I have no idea why that happened but has added to the issues that I would like to be fixed.

- I've a wifi network at home based on mac filtering.
- 3 days ago,I bought a Galaxy note 2 model: GT-N7102.
- I normally searched for it's wifi mac address and insert it in the router and get connected the internet.
- Next day I couldn't get connected to the internet!... When I checked the device mac address and I found it changed !!!!!! (it was 00:08:22:e8:f5:99 and changed to 00:08:22:5c:44:f5 !!!) later, after I went out and get back to home and tried to connect to internet, again I couldn't and the reason was that I found the mac address changed again!!! the new one was 00:08:22:1c:88:fc !!!
- It is continuing... every time I get new mac address and I must insert it to router to be able to connect to the internet.

my gmail account got hacked. Someone managed to break in, change my password, and send emails to all my contacts. I have created a new gmail account because I can not access the old one through any password recovery methods available through google. After changing passwords and emails on over 20 accounts, I am at my wit's end. I had to export over 400 contacts from my phone, load them up on PC, then cut out just under 300 (where the hell did all those come from?!) to get to my normal >100. I am now left with the following dilemmas: I have a new email address set up on my phone which works right now, but my gcal is stuck on the old address which will obviously not log in. Phone (Droid, 2.1 stock) is telling me I need to do a factory data reset to get the old account off. Is there any way around this? Also, I have several paid apps. With my original gmail account compromised, and I presume not recoverable, do I just lose all those purchases? I am also having trouble loading my ical backup file (the only way I can get my calendar events) into my new gmail account. The import screen just sits there, doing nothing. I tried searching the forum and net for answers, but I found nothing and have exhausted my mental capacity for this for right now.
