General :: Nexus 7 Not Charging And Now Completely Dead
Feb 15, 2014
My Nexus 7's (2013) battery was low so I decided to charge it. I plugged it in to a AC adapter and it showed that it was charging. The tablet's battery was decreasing! I decided to turn it off and charge it. I've been trying to fix the tablet for a while. It showed empty battery icon, LED light above the usb port was flickering 5 times. Then it showed no more sign of life. I've tried many things including holding power button for 1 minute, tried different chargers, plugged in a different outlet, used original charger. The tablet is still under warranty but I don't want to go through all the trouble to get a new one. My tablet is not rooted.

I bought one Star N9500 from aliexpress and after few hours, it had the most strange thing I faced with a mtk cellphones because I tested many different chip and models but this one after I try to charge it because the low battery, when I come back I found it like power off, so I tried to switch on and the big surprise cannot switch on anymore. I did many tests like charging the battery with external charger, pressing both buttons volume + and power or volum - and power.... but nothing can make it wake up. The screen is black and no signal of life.
When I plug the cellphone, here is the most strange thing, I can hear the sound like a new device found but just after 2 secons again the sound of windows when you unplug a device and again like the first sound when u plug it, mean like u insert a pendrive and u remove it every 2 or 3 seconds but of course, the cellphone all the time conected by cable and testing different usb ports.

My GNex took a baseball to the screen; the screen is shattered and unresponsive, but the phone will power on and I can see the file structure if I connect via USB to my PC. I've retrieved all the files and photos that I want to save from the phone by copying to the PC, but not the text messages. I had a backup for the text messages, but it's gone (different story for another time). So I've been searching for a way to retrieve these text messages that can be executed entirely from the PC side, since I have no way of installing an app on the phone. I'd either like to be able to copy the SMS database to a new phone via PC, or dump it into some sort of manageable text format.
From the searches I've done, it seems like I might be able to do this using some sort of developer's code; (i.e., Install this program, plug in the phone, enter these lines of code, etc.)
The phone is stock (not rooted), and was just recently updated to ICS 4.0.4 (?)
Samsung says they can "fix" the phone for $160+, but that they won't be able to save any of the data since the phone isn't navigable (I assume they'll just send a replacement).

I have a dead Nexus S 4g that won't power up anymore, tech guy at the phone store couldn't figure out why. I got a 2nd working Nexus S 4G afterwards. I want to move the pics from the old phone to the new phone but because the NS4g has NO external SD Card, and the hard drive in the old phone is soldered onto the motherboard, I don't want to remove the solder from the old board and put it onto the new phone, it sounds messy and a lot of work and I'm afraid to "screw" it up even more. I want to move the entire board onto the new phone and try to retreive the pics and then move it back. I don't know if this will work but I want to try it out anyway.
1 of the tiny screws from the new phone was stripped and I can't unscrew it to disassemble it ! I've been searching online and people generally have bigger screws to remove (on bigger hardware) but couldn't find much on tiny screws on a delicate electronics like our smartphones, thus posting here now. How to get the pics out.

So a while back, I used adb to put android 4.4 kitkat onto my Nexus 4 (unrooted) for the first time. Normally I would wait for OTA updates but not in this case. So, when I did that the google play store wasn't working. I was annoyed, and went to loads of forums and every time I posted a thread I would get no response. Google customer support's only advice was to factory reset. So I waited a few weeks until recently when the 4.4.2 update came out, so I tried installing it and there was an error. After even more posting to forums, and still no responses (strangely they were all active forums) I just now had to do a factory reset. However, I can't sign into google (it says that there was a problem communicating with Google servers and to try again later, and when I press next the message repeats infinitely until I press the home button.) and also my google play services are apparently incompatible with my device?

After testing/installing the popular "GO Launcher EX" my sound is completely gone. Of course I uninstalled that GO Launcher EX asap but it didn't work.
My problems:
- No sound during music, media, alarm etc while the sound volume bars all are maxed
- Every few seconds or when I press something usually a weird "tik tik" sound, it feels like the sound hardware has died or something
- When playing music you hear very low sound like "ZzzZZzzZzzz" like the hardware is not working or sound is not coming out
I tried factory reset and other ROMS but all failed so far
Phone: Galaxy Nexus
Build (old when the problem occured): AOPK 4.1.2

I've found lots of tips and tricks, but not really the answer to what i am looking for. Should I be waiting until my phone is dead to charge, or simply charge when ever I want to maximize my battery life?

I did a quick search, but there are so many battery threads, I couldn't find one with the same issue. I apologize if I skipped over it.
After having the phone charging all night by my bedside, I wake up, take the phone off the charger, and immediately it drops from 100% to 90%. Sometimes higher..sometimes lower. Today it went to 88%. The phone is plugged in for 8-9 hours.
Is my battery not getting a complete charge? Does the battery stop charging at 100 and begin discharging from there even while plugged in? This happens with my by EVO battery, and the backup battery from my old Hero. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this issue.

This is my second Nexus. I just purchased a new charge cord because I needed to turn off my nexus to charge properly, and I hated that. But this new cord only did me good for a bit. Now, the nexus refuses to charge, unless you put the cord a certain way, and if you even touch it while charging, it stops charging.Edit-now its not charging no matter what I do

I put the charger in the port and didn't realize that it wasn't charging until after I completely drained the battery. And yes, I plugged it in and checked the outlet. I got it at Best Buy. Is that where I should return it or can I do it at the Verizon store?

how the Nexus Tablet 7 charges? Not through the USB port, right?
I have a Transformer right now w/ the dock & 2 full sized usb ports on it. But I have been waiting for the Nexus Tab for months, because of the screen, processor, and price. however since it does not have a microSD, I would definitely need to be able to plug in my 500GB usb hdd into it. I would need a OTG cable, right? And it does not use the MicroUSB port to charge, right? Otherwise how could you use the usb and charge it at the same time?

Curious anyone's thoughts on letting a battery completely drain, before charging VS pluggin it in every night, whether its low or not? Does it develop a "memory", and thereby cut the usable charge down?

My specific device is a GSM Galaxy Nexus.
So, I have 3 batteries for my phone. 1 stock (1750mAh) and 2 extended (2000mAh). No I don't need all that juice... its a story for another time. Anyway....
Lately when I charge a battery in the external charger (using a USB cable and the wall plug supplied with the phone) the battery will not fully charge. The LED on the charger will change from red to green (Usually I charge the battery overnight, or while I'm away at work during the day). However when I put the battery in the phone, it will show somewhere between 80%-90% charged.
1) Would a 100% drain and charge reset the battery's "fuel gauge"?
2) My phone automatically powers off at 6% (which is fine, needs enough juice to save current settings and power down properly). Is there a way to truely drain the battery down to 0%? (I'm thinking of some kind of low-voltage lightbulb or LED connected to the positive and negative terminals should drain that down to 0%. Is this recommeneded or is it fine just running it down till the phone powers off?
Normally I try to plug my phone in and charge (or power off and swap batteries) once they hit about 40%-60%. I'm only interested in doing a full drain to see if that will get these batteries to fully charge in the desktop charger. Besides I've read from a few sources that it is GOOD for the battery to do this once in a while (Fully drain, charge to100%) to properly maintain them.
And as a side note, charging the battery in the phone (either with the wall plug or from USB cable on my computer) will always result in a 100% charge, which makes me thing the issue is with the desktop unit itself (perhaps faulty circuit that cuts off charge current when it thinks its full ?)

I turn off my 4G/LTE on my Galaxy Nexus to save battery but when charging or plugged in, I would like to take advantage of the faster speeds. Is there a way to automatically turn on/off 4G/LTE in relation to the charging status? 3G on battery, 4G when plugged in.

Just wondering if something specific could cause them or simply a quality issue.
My first N1 (T-Mobile purchased day one) developed a tiny dead pixel after about a week of use. I returned it to HTC and the replacement I got didnt have any but about a week after I got it, a dead pixel appeared on it. The phone was stolen so I never called HTC. I just bought an ATT N1 and again it's perfect to start. I know nothing about how electronics work but I wonder if:
-Could a specific live wallpaper cause this? I used the Grass one on both previous models.
-Could the dock cause this? When you place it in dock the screen dims and you get that floating clock. I wonder if extended stay on the dock could be the cause?
Or like I said maybe just not the best quality parts.

How can I tell when the Moment is completely done charging? I use a wall charger. When I plug it in. The screen lights up. Phone charging. Seconds later. The screen goes blank.. I have to manually hit the volume key or end key to see the charge complete notification on the screen. I charge it for about 4 hours. Isnt it suppose to light up on its own with the charge complete? Do I have a defective MOMENT?

Is there any way to control from outside an Android which screen has become nuts ?
I have a chinesse phone ( and MTK 6573) which touch screen has become nuts (most of it has become unresponsive and often a continuos touch imput is detected in the center-left side of the screen). So, it has become useless...
The thing is, I would like to access to it, in any way, to recover some of the data I have on it. Also, becouse I try to disasemble, volumen key seem not working. How could I connect to it ?
I tought of the mimobiler, but I need to enable it trought touch and hadn't been able I tought backing up and restoring in another mobile (an MTK6577), but volumen key not working for ColckWorkRecovery would be to control it from mouse or similar, in a way that does not affect the missfuncionality of the touch screen (should be disable I presume). But anything that allows me to recover the saved phones (several got stored in mobile instead of google account), and a couple of apps data (a fianace data and a notes app) would be great something like remote-titanium-backup ?

I've noticed with a lot of cleaning app's they leave behind unused folders and files of app's that have since been removered and started up a small graveyard so to speak of these app's and their directories...
Is there an app that will inspect your installed app's and then clean and free up space according to what's installed and what's uninstalled but left behind?

I recently ordered a Rikomagic MK802 II: Amazon.com: Rikomagic MK802 II New Generation Mini Android 4.0 PC Google TV Box HD IPTV Player: Electronics
I was intrigued by the concept of a mini PC and thought it could be a good way to get YouTube, remote potato, etc. on my non-smart tv. When I first got it I plugged it into the TV and plugged the USB into my laptop for power, it started right up and worked fine. I connected to my wifi, synced my Google account, and downloaded some apps. I also removed all the Chinese apps that came pre-installed on it..After awhile I powered it down with the "power off" option in the task bar. The next day, and several attempts after, I could not get it to boot back up. When I plug it in, it starts to boot and the Android screen comes up for awhile, then the screen flashes white and it starts over, and continues cycling like that until I pull the plug. I've tried USB power from my laptop, a powered USB hub, and a USB wall charger, all with the same result.
I don't feel comfortable sending it back to this manufacturer with my account synced to it. I've pushed the hard reset button inside the device with a pin while it was powered on, but I'm not sure it had an effect. I can see the device on my Google Play account, but can't see a way to remove it from there.
what I could try to get this device booted, or any steps I can take to remove it from my account without getting it booted. I suppose if I change my Google password, that would prompt all my devices (including this one) to re-enter the password next time it's booted?
