General :: Can't Restore NANDROID Backup On Nexus 7
Dec 7, 2012
Prior to upgrading to 4.2.1, I made a NANDROID backup of my Nexus 7 (4.1.2) using mskip's toolkit. The restoration method copies the backup folder to the device (/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/), then boots it into custom recovery. At first I was using TWRP 2, but I think I need to be using CWM, so I flashed CWM Touch. I actually went through the motions again of copying the backup over to the Nexus 7, but CWM Touch doesn't see the backup folder. It returns two messages when attempting to Restore:
1. Couldn't open directory
2. No files found
The folder containing the NANDROID backup and all parent folders are readable/writable/NOT Hidden, according to ES File Explorer, but I wonder about ownership.I'm rooted with SuperSU 0.99.
how to make CWM Touch, TWRP 2 or some manual method recognize and restore a NANDROID backup? I know I could just flash stock 4.1.2 and start from scratch (I have apps + data backed up), and if it comes to it.

When you have booted into RECOVERY MODE, and you are either trying to make a Nandroid backup or restore, and you get a "Run nandroid-mobile.sh via adb!" error, then try these things: SD Card - it could be too full to write a recovery.Try deleting some things and try again. "Nandroid folder" inside your SD card -If you have renamed some of your backups, then this could also be an issue.Change the names back to what they were and try again. If anyone else has other experiences please feel free to add them here so others will have something to look at when in need.

I did a Nandroid backup (system, data, etc. using CWM) and a Titanium backup (user apps), wiped my phone, and installed a new ROM.
Q: Does a Nandroid backup include the /ProgramData/Language/ folder?
I'm trying to restore files I 'hid' using the Hide It Pro app. A developer blog post mentions that this folder is the 'vault location'. As a result, I'd like to find this folder and restore it if possible.
A Titanium Backup restore of the Hide It Pro app+data didn't of course work due to this. I'd like to avoid restoring everything from the Nandroid backup if possible and just restore the individual folder. I have of course tried looking through the folders and files to find it, to no avail.

I own the g2 vs980. I am running malladus. I had a nandroid backup of cleanrom. In an effort to free up space late last night I opened cwm app and deleted my backup if clean rom. I would like to recover it. I know of tools like diskdigger apk, but I don't know if it will recognize the format since (I believe) inside the backup file folder there are many files that comprise the nandroid backup. I did not do any factory resets since the delete. I know the files should still be there. I have done very little on the phone so the data should still be intact... for now. Xoom WiFi

I had upgraded my Galaxy Gio from stock rom to custom rom (CM 7.2 based), and now I want to restore just a few apps + data (for e.g. Memo) and Contacts (from stock rom) from my Nandroid backup, so I want it should be on the current custom rom.
How far I tried to do so, I could'nt get it done. I tried with NANDROID MANAGER, I installed it and tried to restore some apps + their data, (the apps was in previous rom in System/Apps so Nandroid Manager automatically wanted to install it in system/apps), ok, the program showed as it's installed with no broblems, BUT after reboot as it required, NOTHING HAPPENED, so I looked in system/apps and data/data with root explorer, those apps & data were there, but it was not installed.....
I also tried to restore the Contacts from Nandroid (Contacts Storage), and I ended up with erasing all contacts I had currently on the phone (anyway that wasn't a problem, cause i had an regular backup of it).
So I would like to understand what the problem is, and how is it possible to have my previous memos and contacts restored to my current rom?

Having md5 mismatch error while restoring nandroid backups. This error comes usually due to renaming the nandroid backup folders.
1. Use a program editor like notepad++ to open the nandroid.md5 file and remove all lines except the first line which would have some hex values follwed by boot.img.
2. run the following commands in terminal emulator of ur android:
#cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/(name of backup)
#rm nandroid.md5
#md5sum *img > nandroid.md5

I'm having the documented problem of no data connection, always on roaming, after flashing to CM 10.1. My prior rom was CleanRom 5.1, and I have several nandroid backups from various roms over the last few months. GS3 (d2vzw) with root and unlocked bootloader.
So the question is... What's the best way to restore IMEI info and get mobile data back?
There are a couple of steps I'm not sure of:
Option 1: Flash a nandroid recovery, backup IMEI using terminal emulator, and then crack-flash away
1. If I restore my phone to a previous backup, is the correct IMEI information included?
2. Also having a problem getting the MD5 sum's to match. Should I flash through ADB instead of clockworkmod? Or use Odin to get back to stock and then re-root? If correct IMEI included with flash back to stock?
3. Assuming I restore a nandroid, the plan was to use "reboot nvbackup" in terminal emulator to save IMEI info.
4. Flash back to CM 10.1.
Option 2: Use IMEI Generator and NV Reader/Writer:
1. Based on this thread: [URL]
2. Problem: The link to the generator tool in the OP is broken (404). I can get the converted IMEI number from an alternative program, but don't know how to format the text file correctly to use with NV Reader/Writer. Any standard format of a dummy IMEI text file?

So my Droid's screen recently stopped working and I'm getting an exchange with Verizon. I have to send my dead phone back once I get the new one, and am concerned about the fact that it's rooted running Froyo. I'd like to restore the nandroid backup I made of stock 2.1. Can somebody give me advice on how to do this with a dead screen? Perhaps from the command line on my computer via USB, or perhaps the key strokes to do it in nandroid so I can replicate it by feel?

I have CWM Touch Recovery v6.0.3.1. A couple of hours ago, I made a NANDroid backup before flashin a new ROM. When I attempted to use NANDroid backup manager to restore my apps and data, the app said I had no apps in the backup. Upon reviewing the files CWM created, I discovered that it created several data.ext4.tar files. Is there a way to combine these so I can use the Nandroid backup manager to restore my apps. I've managed to restore call logs, text messages and wifi data but my apps are important too.
I do realize I could probably use CWM for restoring but I want to restore specific apps and not the data. (I.e the recently updated hotmail app) Plus, restoring with CWM flashes data that is incompatible with the new ROM.

I just came across my first downfall with moving the dalvik to SD. Nandroid is stuck trying to backup cache. Im guessing the reason is that nandroid cant find the dalvik because it is not symbollically linked by S2e since we arent booted into the actaul OS. Anyway i can get nandroid to backup without moving it back?

I've never made a rom now do I know how. I'm just broke and have a horrible computer its so bad I haven't used it since I got my evo 4G. Anyway I'm not new to flashing, modding or anything to do with my evo. What I like to do is flash a rom as a base then find other tweaks and mods and flash them. remove things the developer put in and maybe replace them with other thing I find from other roms. Eventually I have a custom "rom" mostly unrecognizable from my original base. My question is, is it possible to nand my "rom" and turn it into a flashable rom to share with the community?

From what I have read it is already possible to do so. ADB offers some commands to backup your whole internal disk directly to PC. Also there is a way to do so via fastboot. Thats both very nice but I would like to go one step further. I put many trust in backups like cwm or twrp. currently I'm using TWRP on my N4. The tools works just fine!!
I have around 13.8 GB of capacity overall! One backup made by TWRP takes about 1.5 GB. But thats only because the compression works this well. To get it the backup process started I need to free about 2.8 GB. Thats over 30% of my storage. Another point is that to have a proper backup I have to copy the backup to another storage eg my PC. So I was thinking:
Why can't we made this superb backups (compatible to CWM and TWRP) directly to PC?

Galaxy Note, updated to ICS (via Kies). Rooted via CWM and SU-Busybox-Installer.
Installed ROM Toolbox, and tried to do a Nandroid backup.
After that, device restarted and since then it hangs in Samsung Galaxy Note Screen.
I can enter Android System Recovery 3e, tried Factory reset and re-installing CWM, but did not work.

On my HTC Nexus One, I recently made a leap from GingerBread with Cyanogen Mod 7.1 to JellyBean 4.2.1 with Cyanogen Mod 10.1.
I started with an Amon-RA nandroid backup, and later on, I had to use BlackRose in order to change partition sizes.
I thought I backed up all my applications, but it turns out that I lost valuable data during the switch.
Now I'm afraid to load the prev. nandroid into the current configuration due to the modified partition sizes (I also do not know what were the prev. partition sizes).
So I was wondering if there's any way I could load the nandroid backup onto a virtual AVD machine, in order to extract my data files? If there's a better way to read data from a nandroid backup.

I bought a phone from China (Lenovo A706...quiet good value for money) and I received it with english software, play store access etc. Now...most people who ordered it from China were not that lucky. Because the phone is listed as China only, it does not have play store access out of the box and most of the apps are in Chinesse. Also, there is virtually no development for this phone in the English speaking world (there are some Russians working on roms but...russian is as bad as Chinesse for most of us )
I have managed to install CWM using a Russian guide (google translate rulls!) and I would like to use that to somehow share the rom on my phone with the community. The question is...how do I do that? Also, the backup was done with my google account signed in so I would obviously want to delete that before I upload it anywhere
I do have some experience of messing with roms and all (my main phone is a Nexus 4 after all...) but I never cooked a rom myself
P.S. If I download one of the Russian roms (which are to be flashed with CWM..easy peasy) and replace my system folder with the system folder in their ROM would that work? I'm talking about the same baseband ofc
