I am planning to factory restore my phone. I have purchased lots of apps from Google play store. I do not want all the apps to be downloaded. How can I prevent all apps from getting downloaded to my phone? There is a firmware upgrade waiting to be installed right now. is it possible to delete the firmware? I do not want to put that on my phone....

As I continue to downlaod and try new apps, I notice that some of the permissions that some of them have are/is: "Prevent phone from sleeping". I didn't think much about it, but after conditioning my phone...for a few days I was getting around 11% awake time, now after a few of these apps after a recharge this AM I am showing 26%...before the charge my awake time was very high again. I always use Adavanced Task Killer after messing with the phone, 9/10 trials.

Even more annoyingly however, many of the apps that default to SD card if you move them to internal memory MOVE BACK TO THE SD CARD when you update them.
Is there any way to prevent apps from automatically installing to the SD card? Or at the very least, installing to SD card is fine... but to prevent them from moving BACK to the sd card when you update them?
I am use CSipSimple for my VoIP calling and unfortunately, every time I do a Memory Clear (under the RAM tab), it kills nearly all of my programs including CSipSimple. I know that 2 apps that this action definitely doesn't close is my AVAST! mobile security and my Ultimate Rotation Control. I'd like to be able to make CSipSimple be immune to such "clears" as those two apps but I do not know how to go about it.
At the moment, I always have to reopen it after I clear and sometimes it takes a bit for it to reconnect.
My question is- will the marketplace remember all the apps I downloaded after I reset the phone?

Example. I have a Nexus 7 in my dash and leave navigation running. When I turn my ignition off the charger turns off however the tablet doesn't because I left navigation on.
I just got my first smartphone and downloaded some apps off the play market. However, an icon never appeared on my home screen that links to them. I can access them by opening the market back up, searching for the app, and running it there. But I can't seem to figure out how to make a shortcut.

It's nice to know my contacts are backed up on-line so that I they're not lost if I manage to lose my phone. However, I do not want contacts loaded onto my phone that I do not communicate with by cellphone (only e-mail). There's simply no point to it. I do not use a local client e-mail application--only GMail. I'd rather keep my phone contacts list succinct. But I have yet to figure out a way to do this, except by keeping a separate GMail account specifically for managing my phone contacts (I keep only those with phone numbers, and synchronize with that one). I'd rather keep it all unified in one account (both contacts and calendar).
View 1 Replies View RelatedAny way to change how the phone behaves in regards to the screen waking up after ending a Bluetooth phone call? Windows Mobile handled this correctly. Android does the opposite.
For example, I am on a phone call using BT headset, I press the power button and put the phone to sleep, put the phone in my pocket, end the call and the screen wakes up with the dialer open. Guess what happens next.....pocket dialing!
WM would end the call and the screen wouldn't turn on, and even after waking it up it was locked.
BT headsets, voice dialing, but I can't just leave the phone in my pocket?
End call should equal no wake or unlock(no action)

I've tried so many app's over the last couple of days that claim to stop the screen from locking but they have all just bypassed the lock screen... Well, they've tried to anyway. These kind of work arounds don't actually stop my phone from locking in the first place though.
My phone is a W008+ iPhone clone with Android 2.3.3. When it's charging, the screen will time out and switch off; But it doesn't lock. So I can hit any key to bring the screen back on and as it wasn't locked in the first place, I'm taken straight back to where I was.
When not charging, I get the same behaviour for ~2 or 3 seconds... Any longer and it locks forcing me to use the power key and swipe the lock screen along with any other security measures I may have in place.What I'd like is to be able to set the 'lock' timeout in the way that I can set the 'screen' timeout.How far will I have to go to get this functionality?
Is there a setting I've missed? I'm very new to Android so there's lots I don't know yet.
Are there any app's that can really do this? Maybe this would need a root app?
I have an Activity X which is only accessible after you've entered a valid credential.
How can I prevent other apps from calling startActivity with an Intent pointing to X?
e.g. Intent intent = new Intent( this, ActivityX.class );

Basically I don't want Activity X to be exported to any apps except my app.

I just switched to the Moment and I'm really digging it so far, except for the battery. I was wondering if anyone knows of an app out there or some settings that can prevent apps from loading automatically. Often, I find that apps like Sprint Nav, Sprint TV, Moxier Mail, etc. loaded automatically. I'm getting tired of killing apps all day long to save memory and battery. It seems like my Moment doesn't want to run with more than 30mb free cause it just keeps loading apps until it gets to around 26-30mb.

Others I don't want to upgrade because the current app works for me and the "upgrade" introduces problems.
Is it possible to turn off the upgrade notification for some but not all apps? I don't want to accidentally include an app when I am upgrading others.

I have already downloaded/installed and set chompSMS to the default text app. Even though text messages will open/send in chompSMS automatically, the Messages and Virtual VM apps will still automatically open and run in the background without telling me. View 10 Replies View RelatedI downloaded launcher pro and switch pro apps. Then I installed a non-market app I got from xda (gallery3d if it matters). After installing that app, launcher pro required a force quit. Now I have my switch pro widget near the bottom of the screen on the home screen. When launcher pro reloaded and put back all my widgets, it looks like it sort of mirrored the switch app on the bottom, behind the dock where the phone and contacts buttons are. It's sort of half on and half off the screen. I can't long press on it, or interact with it in any way. I have tried reloading the switch pro widget, but that doesn't do anything. I have also tried restarting launcher pro, which also has no effect. Rebooting the phone also does not solve. Weird, huh? What do you all think?
View 5 Replies View RelatedOver the last 6 months, I've bought several applications through the market without any problems. Yesterday, I bought Camera Zoom FX which downloaded just fine. But after downloading, it's been stuck at "Installing." in the Download-section of my Market. It sais "Purchased" in the upper right corner (as usual) and I've received the receipt through e-mail. I tried to install another app afterwards, and that worked just fine. Its about 24 hours since I purchased the app now, but it's still trying to install. I've rebooted the phone at least 5 times, cleared the Market-cache before and after rebooting. I've even tried to remove my SD-card just in case.If I click and hold the application in the Market-app, the only choice I get is "Details", not "Uninstall" and the other options I usually get. When I go to the apps details, the button at the bottom is greyed out and says "Installing..". This means I can't cancel the installation or choose uninstall.
My Hero has the official 2.1 version (fully updated) without root or other modifications.I've looked through the forum several times, including what seems to be relevant posts, but I can't seem to find any real solution for this problem. Anyone know how I can fix this? I think it's really strange that Android doesn't have any form of time-out or something for this..
I'm really new to the Android world and just got the Hero a couple of days ago and it is overwhelming on what this phone can do but I'm not sure if its the phone for me.I love the Market app and have downloaded a lot of apps just to try them out and now I have so many that I would like to remove some of them but I can't figure out how to do this. I have searched the User's Guide but haven't found anything in it unless I missed it but need some help here, so how do you remove apps and games from this phone?
