It's nice to know my contacts are backed up on-line so that I they're not lost if I manage to lose my phone. However, I do not want contacts loaded onto my phone that I do not communicate with by cellphone (only e-mail). There's simply no point to it. I do not use a local client e-mail application--only GMail. I'd rather keep my phone contacts list succinct. But I have yet to figure out a way to do this, except by keeping a separate GMail account specifically for managing my phone contacts (I keep only those with phone numbers, and synchronize with that one). I'd rather keep it all unified in one account (both contacts and calendar).

Jun 30, 2012Any way to change how the phone behaves in regards to the screen waking up after ending a Bluetooth phone call? Windows Mobile handled this correctly. Android does the opposite.
For example, I am on a phone call using BT headset, I press the power button and put the phone to sleep, put the phone in my pocket, end the call and the screen wakes up with the dialer open. Guess what happens next.....pocket dialing!
WM would end the call and the screen wouldn't turn on, and even after waking it up it was locked.
BT headsets, voice dialing, but I can't just leave the phone in my pocket?
End call should equal no wake or unlock(no action)

General :: Prevent Phone Locking - Not Bypass Lock Screen?
Feb 25, 2012 I've tried so many app's over the last couple of days that claim to stop the screen from locking but they have all just bypassed the lock screen... Well, they've tried to anyway. These kind of work arounds don't actually stop my phone from locking in the first place though.
My phone is a W008+ iPhone clone with Android 2.3.3. When it's charging, the screen will time out and switch off; But it doesn't lock. So I can hit any key to bring the screen back on and as it wasn't locked in the first place, I'm taken straight back to where I was.
When not charging, I get the same behaviour for ~2 or 3 seconds... Any longer and it locks forcing me to use the power key and swipe the lock screen along with any other security measures I may have in place.What I'd like is to be able to set the 'lock' timeout in the way that I can set the 'screen' timeout.How far will I have to go to get this functionality?
Is there a setting I've missed? I'm very new to Android so there's lots I don't know yet.
Are there any app's that can really do this? Maybe this would need a root app?
General :: Phone Not Connecting To Computer Via USB?
Oct 21, 2012i got an S3.. and my computer has xp pro. i had to restore my computer recently from a saved image of my system. before i restored my computer, i was able to connect my S3 to it via USB with no problem. but after i restored it, i'm unable to.
i downloaded and installed the MTP driver, which got my computer to recognize my phone before i restore it. but now its not working and i dont see it listed in Device Manager. whats weird is that when i connect my S3 to my computer, the phone doesnt give any notifications that the phone is connected to USB like it used to before. and it also doesnt give me the 2 options of connecting by either MTP or Camera. all it does is charge my phone.

Jul 26, 2010I am coming from a proffesional environment using Windows Mobile and am in culture shock as i have decided to give the Droid X a shot. I am alarmed at how inefficient the emailing system is. It has taken everything out of me to get the VERY basic functionality of pop accounts. You can only set 1 signature for all emails? You can't compose an email with a font size smaller than 12? The Droid X is an amazing device and should make any young person elated, but to a professional it is proving to be nothing more than an expensive toy. It is too late for me since i have the Droid X already, but i strongly URGE any professionals out there to AVOID Android like the plague if you rely on emails to get your work done on a daily basis. Googles handling of email is embarrassing and inexcusable. Okay my rant is done.I have my phone setup so that i can barely make it by with day-to-day emails (GOD i miss Windows Mobile email! - nothing else) As a professional, consistency is crucial to me. There is a stark contrast to the emails sent from my computer vs emails that i send with the Droid X. When sending from my Droid X, all the phone numbers (my signature) get converted to links which look very tacky and serve no purpose in my environment. i understand, that in some cases, someone may want to use their phone, click on the number and add it to their contacts. In a professional environment this is not necessary and looks terrible. More importantly, it is inconsistant with the emails i send from my pc. Since emails are handled soooo poorly with Android i am guessing i will just have to live with it, but does anyone know how to prevent the phone numbers from becomming links? It is very irritating.

Jul 7, 2010Short version: Is there a way to prevent the phone from locking while on an active call? Former iPhone user here. With the iphone, there was a sensor that detected when your face was near the phone, so the screen was blank and disabled but the phone was not locked. When you pull your face away, the screen is active again.
On the Evo, it seems it has a similar sensor. However, after a minute it'll actually lock the phone for me while on an active call. So in order to hang up, I have to fumble with the phone to press the top button, then fumble some more to press end. Is there a way to prevent the phone from locking while on an active call, yet allow it to disable the screen when it detects it's being held up to the face?

I didn't think much about it, but after conditioning my phone...for a few days I was getting around 11% awake time, now after a few of these apps after a recharge this AM I am showing 26%...before the charge my awake time was very high again. I always use Adavanced Task Killer after messing with the phone, 9/10 trials.

Dec 1, 2009When I sync my Sprint HTC Hero with Windows Vista (using HTC Sync version 2.0.8), I get the following error message: "The application com.android.providers.calendar (process com.htc.calendar) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." I also get this message occasionally when I'm not syncing. It doesn't seem to prevent my Hero from syncing new calendar events, but the error message is annoying. Anyone have an idea why I'm getting it and what I can do about it?

Sep 17, 2010Trying to connect a HTC Hero to my computer, it used to connect ok as i used to use the phone as a modem for my laptop, but now instead of the charger light coming on & charging and the little symbol saying it was connected in the top elft of the screen it ONLY charges the phone but the little symbol doesnt come up in the top left and i cant find the device on my computer, iv tried new cables etc but still no joy, any ideas?

One of the computers is a Dell Inspiron 9400 running Vista and the other is a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 under VMWare Fusion 3.0.2.HTC Sync 2.0.18 should work in Windows 7 and definitely under Vista so I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. On both computers I'm running AVG Antivirus 9.0 Free, on which I disabled resident shield during installations, as recommended.

For some reason, the phone turns on when the volume buttons or the camera buttons are pressed. By turns on, I mean the screen wakes up or comes back from the black screen state.
I've tried using dispatchKeyEvent(KeyEvent event) and the buttons are disabled on the activity, but they still wake up the phone.

May 1, 2010Usually the phone is awake, and when you lower it the phone lights up for numeric input (love that feature).
But after a minute or so it locks. You have to push power button before you can enter numbers- annoying. Is there a "keep alive" option I'm not seeing?
On a similar note, is there a way to make the phone lock automatically (like an app)? It's also annoying to have to manually lock it: I'd rather keep waking it up (if it was indeed idle and not running a program) than forget to lock it and dial/message everyone in my contact list from my pocket.
