I want to write an application to List the Gmail message. In the list, if user click one of the message item, it shall link out Gmail App to see more detail information. Currently I can read the Gmail db with Gmail.java. There are some problems while I want to open Gmail Activity. In general, we can open Activity with Action and parameters. But Gmail App has not release code base. We do not know what Action set to Gmail Activity and what parameter shall we put the extras. I only know that the Activity of View detail Message is named "HtmlConversationActivity." And the Package is under "com.google.android.gm.

And it got me thinking. If it happened to me, with my phone synced - would all my phone contacts suddenly disappear - or once I'd synced once with gmail, should I stop it syncing unless I do it manually? Is there a way to back up gmail emails offline?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with google talk on my gs. Whenever my friend says something to me her messages appear as offline messages. So if she sends a message it will be in a gray area with a date below (sent at 16:45). This wouldn't be much of a problem but they don't come chronological with my own messages. At first they all piled up at the top so I had to scroll up everytime to see if she had said something. But now I changed something and they seem to appear a few sentences above my own. Now I usually don't have to scroll up anymore but it's still pretty annoying.

Whenever I get an email with more than 5 images attached, thumbnails show up for only the first five. Any after that have an empty space where the thumb should be, but each image (first 5 AND any following images) has buttons to download or preview the image. So while I can conveniently get a good idea of what the first five images contain, I have to preview or download any following images to do the same, which requires opening the image in a separate image viewing app.
My phone's a Sprint Epic 4G Touch, with Gingerbread (2.3.3, I think), and I'm using the Gmail app, version 2.3.6.
Is there anywhere to change the number from 5 to something else?
I'm in the need of viewing the entire conversation between me and a friend, but since we've sent so many text to each other, I can only scroll up to a certain point, therefore i can't see a lot of messages . What can I do?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been reading up on the concept of push email, and how it's supposed to be a huge battery saver (since in theory, the phone would only receive a notification of an e-mail, and not the actual e-mail itself). I have also been reading up on how the "Gmail" app's version of Push email is not the same as other Push e-mail software, in that it requires the phone to "Sync" whenever an e-mail hits the Gmail server. As a result, whenever I would try to turn Auto Sync off (supposedly to save battery), I would no longer be able to get my e-mail notifications in real time.
With this in mind, I attempted to find another application that would enable me to use Push email for my Gmail account, without having to "Sync" with Gmail's server. After messing around for a bit, I found that I could manually input my Gmail account info (Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username, Pass, Etc.) into the stock "Email" app that comes with the X. Once this was done, I was able to enable "Data Push" in the "Email" app's Settings menu (as well turning off any Polling intervals). By doing this, I was able to receive new Gmail notifications through the "E-mail" app, even when Auto Sync had been turned off. As a bonus, I received them around 15 seconds faster than I did with the "Gmail" app's version of Push.....
How do I see the whole message?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI opted to use the native Android (HTC?) imap client for my Gmail account simply because the widget shows me an unread message count. That aside however, the dedicated Google Gmail app is much better (it looks nicer imho and also has the "Archive" button - in the imap client I have to "Move to..."/"[Gmail]/All mail"). And the question: is there an way to have an unread email counter while using the Google gmail app? I would like something that will update as soon as the email is synced to my device, and decrement as soon as I archive an email in the google app.

On the phone, how do I read the full message?
I am trying to programmatically open an individual email in the Gmail app on Android.
I know it can be done because the built-in notifications send you to a message when you click on them and there's an app on the market called Gmail Notifier which does it as well.
What I've tried so far:
-send an ACTION_VIEW intent with the message URI as data (failed - cannot resolve URI)
-send an intent to open HtmlConversationActivity in the Gmail package (failed - "requires permission: null")
Would it help to add flags or a category to the intent? If so, which one(s)?
I know that the Gmail app is not well-documented, but it drives me mad that there is definitely a way to do it and I just can't figure it out!
P.S.: This is the first time I'm posting on stackoverflow, so I apologise in advance if I have ignored any conventions.
One feature of my old Env2 that I really miss and can't seem to find on my Incredible is to find the original time that an SMS message was sent. If I have my phone off for an hour, and turn it back on and receive a text message that was sent at some point in that hour, how can I find out when exactly it was sent? I don't see the option in Handcent or in the Stock Messaging app.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy understanding is that I can use Google Now voice commands offline "as long as it was for something that doesn't need an internet connection to perform" like setting alarm and opening apps. and for that purpose I have to install the appropriate language under "offline speech recognition", which I already have it pre-installed on my phone.
The issue here is that while I'm connected to the internet via wifi, Google Now works fine, but the moment I turn wifi off and go offline, Google Now stops working! It still recognize the hot word trigger "OK Google" but after listening to my command it shows this response "Didn't catch that. Try speaking again".
I turn wifi on, and it works again! even though I used the same exact voice command! I have language pack pre-installed on my Moto G "running Kitkat", and everything seems to be in order, so why isn't it working offline?
Here is the screenshots where you'll see that everything checks out, yet no Google Now offline!
First the scenario when I'm still online via wifi, everything works fine:
Now, when I turn off wifi and go offline:
