how to connect I believe you would call it remotely for the other person can control the other computer with there's a show the person how to build a kernel.
I'm not understanding how kernels and ROMs connect.
[Hardware] <-- Unique to every phone
--
[Kernel] <--- Tells the OS how to talk to the hardware
--
[ROM] <--- Slightly confused. Is the OS in the Read only Memory, or has this term changed its "street" meaning?
I understand that most ROMs (e.g. CM7 and CM9) include both the kernel and the ROM, but can you flash these separately too?
I have a 1.5 year old thunderbolt that's rooted, and has CM7 which is based on gingerbread. I believe HTC has also released the kernel as open source, which is probably the reason I have CM7
Anyway, why I can't install newer versions of android onto the already working/open source kernel I'm already running. Is it accurate to view the kernel as all the phone's drivers, or just the CPU driver? If that statement is true, why can't I load ICS or Jelly Bean onto my already existing set of drivers? my brain around it enough to share with others!
I have ubuntu 11.10 running as a virtual machine on my macbookpro. When I connect my bionic, the prompt asks if I want to connect to mac or linux. I choose linux, but I cannot see the bionic on my ubuntu. When I go into my phone to manage the usb connection, I have tried storage and pc sync.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got the Droid about a month ago and love it. I do have a problem though: My house is in the same town as a non-verizon CDMA tower (US Cellular) and very far away from the nearest Verizon tower. With my other Verizon phones (older handsets), they just connect to the close tower and have full signal all the time without any issues. My Droid, on the other hand, will always try to stay connected to the distant Verizon tower - it can be very difficult and frustrating to make calls with the Droid because there is often no signal and the phone is unable to place a call. I don't need the 3G at home, as the Droid can use my wireless for browsing, etc. How can I get the Droid to stop trying to connect to the distant Verizon tower and connect to the nearby partner tower instead (so that I have high-quality phone signal at home)? I have called Verizon and Motorola and nothing seems to help.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for days to build the android source in Ubuntu. I followed all the steps outlined in "http://source.android.com/ download", but the actual make of the source fails. I captured the terminal output and saved it to Google Docs in the hopes that someone a lot smarter than me can figure out what I'm doing wrong :)

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it would be possible to develop the ability for my application to connect to my PC to be able to access the hard drive via USB? I tried searching around for ways to implement this but I can't find anything. Maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing or its just not possible, not sure.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get my phone to connect to the computer, so I can put music on it. But when I plug it in, all it does is charge. I've already tried to change the USB settings, so that it would pull Mass Storage, and it wouldn't do anything after the fact. The computer has no notification pop up when I plug it in. I'm going nuts here! And I only have two days to do this because I have a long trip ahead and I'm trying to sync music to it.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI tried to test my application on my android phone, but the it can't be able to detect the device compatibility. The debug mode on phone is enabled.
My phone: Motorola.
My ubuntu: 10.04.
IDE: Eclipse.
I even tried to add the following line:
SUBSYSTEMS==husbh, ATTRS{idVendor}==h22b8, ATTRS{idProduct} ==h41dbh, MODE=h0600"
to my /etc/udev/rules.d/90-android.rules.
But every time I tried to run the application, the device can't be detectable.

Trying to get back to stock on a LG Ally. The whole thing seems easy, Ive done a lot of work on my DX so this is easy, but for w.e reason i cannot get my computer to recognize the phone. I've installed all the drivers from the "How to get back to stock" thread in "all things root" and Ive installed drivers from LG's website. The computer installs them fine but when i open LG Mobile it says "disconnected, please connect phone." Mass storage is turned on, and Ive tried this on multiple computers at work.

Big thanks to Toe-cutter who was very patient with both my lack of knowledge and of patience! I'm looking for some help in connecting my Hero to my computer. I haven't has problems until today but now I can't get the darn phone to connect. I have tried my work computer (Windows XP) and my home computer (Vista) and I have also tried four different usb cables, including the HTC one. I have also done a factory reset, taking the battery out and anything else I can think of including reinstalling the drivers & HTC sync If anyone can help I'd appreciate it - I need to be able to sync my phone to my calendar for work. i rooted my phone around a couple weeks ago, and have been trying different types of roms. Today i decided to switch to the fresh2.0d rom and so i placed the zip folder in the root of the sd card. i booted in recovery and selected flash from zip. Once complete, my phone keeps rebooting at the "HTC Quietly brilliant" screen. It does it over and over again. i tried reflashing, taking out the battery and nothing happens. I cant connect to the computer and have no idea what to do.

I have had my Droid 2 for two weeks, and I'm still so far from knowing much more than the very basics. I am not in the generation that is born knowing technology, but I'm trying!
My main reason for buying the Droid 2 was the fact that it could be a hotspot. We have a lake house that has no internet access. I want to use it there.
I can't figure out how to connect my computer to its signal. The Droid 2 should be able to do this - Correct?
I'd like to access an Internet database from my app to edit it and read it. Any link I should read or any advise?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to connect my phone via USB cable to my computer. I know you turn off USB debugging option under development. I connect the USB cable that came with my phone to USB on my computer and then to my phone. At the top of my phone it comes up with the notification to mount my card touch on that and them my phone comes up saying to turn off mass storage. Using Windows XP and in explorer can see the SD card showing as a drive in my list however when I click on it it shows nothing.
I can see the notice of the usb drive in the listings showing that I can turn it off, which I do before I disconnect the phone from my computer. Then I try to connect the USB again to my phone and all it does is show its charging the phone now, usually the only way to resolve is either to restart my computer or restart my phone and the problem starts all over again. I am tired of taking the card out of my phone manually to connect it to my computer to move or copy files or anything to my card which is an 8GB sandisk micro sd card.
I have a samsung Captivate, I am trying to root the phone, but whenever i put it in debugging the phone can't connect to my computer (windows 7 x64). I have been trying to find a driver but none of them work, am I really going to have to pay $30.00 for a one time download of a driver or is there another way!?

Is there a way to turn the weather widget off? I am assumming that that is the problem. View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there a way I can connect to my Droid Incredible to my computer without a cable. For the purpose of transferring media?
View 6 Replies View RelatedOkay, here's the deal. I have a stable WiFi network, an Android phone (HTC Tattoo), and a computer. What I don't have is a way to get said computer to connect to the WiFi network, seeing that I don't have a wireless card.
The question I want to get an answer to is simply this: Is there any possibility to use my android phone as a wireless card, thus get my computer online? Or do I have to go out to get a wireless card? I don't want to use 3G, seeing that it's slow, and the WiFi net is included in my rent.
I am having difficulty transferring music that I bought via the amazon mp3 store from my droid to my computer (a mac) and itunes. I know how to connect/mount my droid to the computer, and have successfully transferred amazon mp3's that I purchased in the past. Just recently, I began experiencing problems. When I try to drag and drop, I get error messages saying that the file cannot be transferred because it is "in use." Or when I attempt to drag and drop to itunes, basically itunes freezes and I have to force quit.
