General :: How To Boot ClockWorkMod From SD Android With MAGLDR
Aug 7, 2011
I am running an HD2 with MccMBoxmaxX Android V9 on SD. I boot into Android with magldr.
Windows Mobile 7 is in NAND.
I have used the cooked in Rom Manager to install ClockworkMod Recovery.
However, when I boot into magldr and try to run "AD Recovery" I get the "No Boot Source" error message.

I'm on a Galaxy S2 running Gingerbread 2.3.4, my baseband version is I9100XXKI1 and my kernel version is 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKH4-CL487028root@DELL136 #2
Using Odin3 v1.85 and S2 Root. (Superoneclick kept freezing on me)
My aim is to install Cyanogenmod 7.1.
So far I started off by trying to flash it with XWKDD Insecure, which I believe is wrong? However after rooting it, I installed ClockworkMod Recovery, downloaded the ROM and tried installing it - which is where the problem started - I kept getting the error in recovery mode 'Invalid whole-file signature'.
It just wouldn't boot in to ClockworkMod Recovery.
So after some digging around I managed to find a file to flash to my device for the CWM Recovery mode, tried it, and it worked. However, I still couldn't install Cyanogenmod from my SDcard.
I tried it a few times, wiped/formatted a few times and ended up getting my device stuck in a bootloop.
So, I've managed to get it out of the boot loop, and started fresh...
I flashed it with XWKH4 Insecure, unrooted, rerooted etc.
I've downloaded CWM again, downloaded the Cyanogenmod again, tried installing it, and once again it's gone back into Androids recovery and failed to install because of the 'whole-file signature' and failing to verify it.
I did post this in Q&A as well, however it doesn't seem to be as popular a forum as this one, I'm not really looking to wait for days for a response.

I recently downloaded and flashed my Qmobile A10 with this ROM URL....
And after flashing it I had a RAVEN ROM first which was getting stuck at boot logo. Even after the flashing I get to see the RAVEN ROM boot logo and then I see the Canvas(The ROM I installed) boot animation. Problem is that I don't get signals. They keep dropping.Further more I don't get to go to recovery again. Everytime I try it just factory resets the mobile.I tried going to Recovery mode by:
1) Holding Vol UP + Vol Down + Power Button > Vol Up
2) Mobile Uncle Tools again
3) ROM Manager
4) Terminal Emulator
5) Some flashbit.bat file I found for my phone
6) SP Flash Tools
All give the same result that my phone is factory reset. Except SP Flash, even after installing drivers it prompts that the drivers may not be installed and a USB error 8100.

My stats:
LG L35g Optimus Logic from Net10
Running Android 2.3.6
It is rooted.
Clockworkmod 5.8.4.5
Okay, first off this is totally my fault that this phone is stuck.
I was inside the About menu of android and saw there was an update for 2.3.6
So, stupidly, I decided to select it. It downloaded the update, rebooted, and then wound up at the clockworkmod recovery screen.
I tried the "reboot system now" option, but it just reboots back to the recovery screen.
I have used the "wiped data/factory reset" option. I've wiped the cache partition and Dalvik cache.
I didn't backup the stock rom, so I found these two roms for the l35g from here:
AA51
Stock (user modded version)
I used the restore option in recovery mode, but the "Stock" rom above didn't take. The AA51 rom did install fully and told me to reboot. I did, but it still went right back into the boot-loop!
I think the solution to this is to fix the boot-loop issue. Would Zengarden or Xionia work? Then, if so, I need a version of it to work with the l35g.

New to the whole rooting thing...
I was able to (i think) root w unrevoked3 and then unrevoked forever. I then installed the leaked 2.2. If I remember correctly, i had to root again after the leak.
Now, when I go to try to remove bloatware, by booting into clockwork and using adb, it wont let me in clockwork mod. I get the battery symbol thing with the exclamation mark.
I have S-off.
Should I re-root, is that the problem? What else could it be?
I also installed ROM manager, and it states that superuser was not found at "/system/xbin/su".
Should I assume that the update killed my root and I need to do it again?

So I recently flashed a ROM (Bionix 1.9 if it makes a difference), but now, anytime I try to go into ClockworkMod for any reason, it gives me an error saying "cannot open /cache/update.zip" and loads up stock recovery instead. When I look at that directory using Root Explorer, there isn't an update.zip in there. Can I just get this update.zip from someone who has clockworkmod working and stick that in there?

I try to understand android boot sequence on my JB (under CM10). I found some docs and there should be specific partitions (boot, recovery, system, cache, data).
My understanding of the boot sequence is now:
A) normal boot:
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) boot-partition where i flashed the kernel aka boot.img ->
4a) system-partition with the OS (libs, UI, etc) where i unpacked over CWM my customROM.zip ->
4b) data-partition, where i unpacked google-apps.zip and installed all the apps ->
4c) cache-partition with user data
B) recovery boot (adb reboot recovery):
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) recovery-partition with CWM where i may unpack all the .zip stuff to proper partitions, or restore from sdcard, etc.
Is this correct? I wonder, because i didn't installed CWM into recovery-partition. It cames from install of CM10 (fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img), so it must be in boot-partition and not in recovery?
So, next confusion: i looked up to /proc/mtd and i don't see neither boot nor recovery partition here:
Quote:
# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 19000000 00040000 "system"
mtd1: 00600000 00040000 "appslog"
mtd2: 06580000 00040000 "cache"
mtd3: 1a400000 00040000 "userdata"
I did a backup with CWM and loocked the data. There aren't boot, and recovery backups:
Quote:
# ls -lha /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2012-10-04.18.49.55/
d---rwxr-x 2 system sdcard_r 4.0K Oct 4 18:56 .
d---rwxr-x 3 system sdcard_r 4.0K Oct 4 18:49 ..
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 1.6K Oct 4 18:54 .android_secure.vfat.dup
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 54.6M Oct 4 18:55 cache.yaffs2.img
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 360.2M Oct 4 18:53 data.yaffs2.img
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 212 Oct 4 18:56 nandroid.md5
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 214.6M Oct 4 18:51 system.yaffs2.img
#
So, i think i didn't understand the boot sequence and partition schema corectly.

I am trying to do some low level performance testing related to device processor cores through adb which I feel it is affected by Android background services and system stuff.
As I know that the Android boot sequence stages are as follow:
1.Execute Boot ROM code.
2.Execute the boot loader.
3.Load the Linux kernel.
4.Launch Zygote, which initializes the Dalvik VM.
5.System server which loads the Android system.
So my question is how can I interrupt this sequence to force it stop on stage 3 to load Linux kernel. This can implement my intermediary performance testings before loading again Android system.
Does Fastboot or Clockworkmod recovery can load my device to a kind of Linux kernel?

Instead of seeing the boring old Android logo or my service provider's logo, I'd love to see the standard text-based Linux boot screen that shows the status of all the hardware and configuration info as my phone boots. My current phone is an HTC EVO 3D running Cool ICS with Sense 3.6 and Revolutionary CWM.

I done a backup using Clorkwork Mod before I flashed a new ROM onto my phone. Now when i am trying to restore the backup onto the phone using CWM it completes the task but whenever I reboot the phone it gets passed the first samsung screen but hangs at the second SAMSUNG screen where the text is pulsing.
I have tried Wipe / Data factory reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvick and fix permissions. None of these seem to make any difference. The only thing that has worked in flashing a new ROM but I do not want to lose any of my apps /configs.

Why would this be on the used phone? Has the OS or phone been tampered with by previous user?

randomly yesterday my phone shut off and rebooted itself. Well, it became stuck on the Samsung boot screen. So I reset it again, and again, and again. Eventually I went into recovery mode and clicked the wipe data/factory reset button. Actually, at first I clicked the wipe cache button. So I rebooted it, and now everytime it boots it goes straight to recovery mode (Volume Up, Home, Power). So i began looking for solutions and decided it would be best to restore to a stock Rom. Well I downloaded one, and attempted to look for it in the internal SD card but all it said was "unable to mount sd". Did some more research, and found something called odin. I went into download mode and odin was able to recognize my device. Loaded up my stock rom (pda, .md5) and it would say this:
Quote:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> KIES_HOME_I317UCAMA4_I317ATTAMA4_578342_REV04_user _low_ship.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
[code].....
Not entirely sure why it stopped at recovery.img. I installed the Samsung Drivers from the website and still nothing. Uninstalled odin and went to an older one, still same message. Installed a newer one, still same message.

Galaxy 3:I5801 with firmware upgraded to 2.2 , was rooted already..I had been trying to upgrade to 2.3.7 with cyanogen 7.2..Clockwork mode recovery was not installed and instead in the normal recovery mode a zip file ,containing the files:META-INF,System and zimage, was renamed as "update.zip"
It did accept the zip and displayed "Welcome to android 2.3.7" but then was stuck displaying "I5801" logo.I am still able to enter the download mode (Vol - | power | home combo) and the "Forced upload by key pressing(vol + | power | home)". I tried usng ODIN to flash , it is flashing and displaying "pass" but no change in the phone .

So the past few days i have been working on porting clockworkmod to my tablet Vexia Navlet 2 White (cpu telechip tcc892x, board m805_892x_evm), i have setup a build environment and managed to make a bootable CWM but have reached a bit of a wall, my recovery dont mount anything.
And so i have a few doubts:
1 - In boardconfig.mk
I have these lines
Code:
BOARD_BOOTIMAGE_PARTITION_SIZE := 0x00a00000
BOARD_RECOVERYIMAGE_PARTITION_SIZE := 0x00a00000
BOARD_SYSTEMIMAGE_PARTITION_SIZE := 0x19000000
BOARD_USERDATAIMAGE_PARTITION_SIZE := 0x39800000
BOARD_FLASH_BLOCK_SIZE := 131072
The size must be set based on the cat /proc/mtd result (or so it says on the different guides i found)
Code:
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00a00000 00200000 "boot"
mtd1: 00600000 00200000 "kpanic"
mtd2: 19000000 00200000 "system"
mtd3: 00400000 00200000 "splash"
mtd4: 09600000 00200000 "cache"
mtd5: 39800000 00200000 "userdata"
mtd6: 00a00000 00200000 "recovery"
mtd7: 00200000 00200000 "misc"
mtd8: 00200000 00200000 "tcc"
After searching on the forums and googling i saw that some people use the hexadecimal value of the column size but other people convert it to decimal, what is the right way? are both okay? is the code from my boardconfig.mk up there ok?
2 -
Code:
BOARD_FLASH_BLOCK_SIZE := 131072
This value, after researching it seems that this must be the decimal converted value of the erase column
Code:
mtd8: 00200000 00200000 "tcc"
In this case 00200000 (hex) -> 2097152 (dec), but if i set this value i get and boot.img too big error, i dont know if this is the reason of the mounting not working, but leaving the default value i can make it and the recovery boot.

I have a chinaphone and I'm trying to install a custom recovery so I can make/restore backups if anything messes up the phone, but it hasn't got an official clockwork mod recovery.
I've read that you can build a custom recovery using the ClockworkMod Builder website with the original recovery img extracted from the device,I tried using this method to extract the recovery: http:[url]....
Then I used an App called Online Nandroid Backup which has successfully created a recovery img for me, I ran it through the ClockworkMod Builder website but it says no changes were made.
