View 7 RepliesDoes anyone know how I can enable one or more languages other than my default(English). i.e I have need to type some messages in German, this is no problem with an English keyboard but the dictionary auto-corrects it to an English word. I am sure I could disable auto-correct but I would rather not.

I want English as the base language just want to add French in as well without having to go into the dictionary and add French words like crazy I did find an app called "Slide it" that appears to offer something that will do this but just wanted to ask the experts first....plus it's not free so I hate to purchase this if it won't do what I need

I would like to add a Hebrew dictionary...
I just tried out Android 4.2 swype feature and I think it is really cool. Although, my mother language is not English, so I downloaded a Hungarian dictionary to my device. So far so good... But unfortunately, swype is not working for my language, although it works for English.
Also, it suggests words to correct my badly typed words, but it doesn't auto correct them.
I have set everything in the Language & input to make this work in Hungarian, but unfortunately no luck so far.
I was wondering if there was a way to add Japanese as an language input for the Android keyboard? By default, there is no option to add Japanese as a llanguage input, and all other keyboards that have it are either ugly, don't have ICS as an optional theme or just too much, I prefer the stock Android keyboard on ICS over anything else and I'm sure there are some of you that agree. It would be nice to have this and other possible languages as optional languages on this keyboard.

I used to use the Samsung Keyboard with English and the Chinese language input (downloaded in it's language settings).
But after a hard rest (My phone had recently updated itself to 4.3 with no change) I no longer have Chinese as a downloadable language.
WHY is this so annoying... Becuase if I use another keyboard that has chinese I can't swap between it and the Samsung Keyboard in Keyboard. The Samsung has to be selects in the phone setting and can't be selected as one of many keyboards.
The reason why I wish to use the Samsung keyboard is becuase of its great swipe input function. I have not found another keyboard that has swipe in English and Chinese input funtionality.
Which means I can never using any combo of keyboards swap easily from chinese to swipe english keyboard.
I think It has something to do with the locale version of the 4.3 android os. I heard that different locales have different downloadable language options. But why has mine sudenly changed!
How can I type a word that is not in my dictionary, use it, but not add it to my dictionary. Very cumbersome to do currently, and one of the reasons I sometimes don't use stock keyboard.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason if I try to input a word into the swype dictionary specifically 'haha' it freezes for a second and the keyboard disappears. Why this would happen?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI cannot seem to find an answer to this although I seem to recall that when I first got the phone that I did it once for one word. When in Android Keyboard input, if you type in a word that is not in the dictionary, is there a way to save it so that it comes up again in the future and you don't have to type the whole word out each time you use it? It appears that this is the case in swype (which I do not care for) but after a lot of trial and error, I cannot seem to locate a place where you can do this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI updated my x10 today to 2.1. I used the backup&restore to restore everything (contacts, settings etc) 1. My android keyboard dictionary only contains the new words the dictionary learned therefore corrects everything to people and place names. So my android keyboard is now useless if I want to use auto correction. Can you please come please provide instructions to how to reset the Android keyboard dictionary? 2. When I restored my contacts back, only some of my contacts were restored. I believe that only some of my contacts were backed up initially and I believe that the contacts that didn't get backed up are the ones I initially imported using SE Sync from my old phone. Why is this happening? SE sync is an unreliable service that is in Beta phase. After I started using it to back up my contacts, it created duplicates and I had to stop using it. Can you confirm whether I'm right in my assumptions? Why only some of my contacts were backed up and not all? Does the backup & restore of the 2.1 behave the same way?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just received my HTC Desire, which is great. My main problem with it so far is that the keyboard only supports English and French, and I need to write in Spanish. I've seen other people saying theirs additionally supports Spanish and Italian - is there any way I could add those languages? I only seem to have English and French locales, can I install new locales? I realise there are a number of third party keyboards, but I really like the default one.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI live in Belgium, the Dutch part, and we use AZERTY keyboards here. My phone is in Dutch, but I could only choose "Dutch (The Netherlands)". In the Netherlands they speak dutch but use QUERTY. So, what I did was leave my phone in "Dutch (The Netherlands)", but I am using the French AZERTY keyboard.
The problem is, that the autocorrect now is also in French. When i typ a word the autocorrect shows a dutch suggestion, a french sugestion and an english suggestion. By default (pressing the spacebar) the phone chooses the French suggestion. Is there anyway to have an AZERTY keyboard and have the Dutch suggestion by default?

1) Is the language add on just a different keyboard layout or does it actually recognize the German words?
2) I found and downloaded com.shapewriter.android.imlanguage.german.apk but I cannot seem to install it. I get a Parse Error when I try to install using an app installed from the SD card... since it is an add on to another app do I need to install it is a different way?
3) If this file is not correct for my version, does anyone have the file or can you tell me where to download it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my HTC Desire with Android 2.1, and the first problem I'm running into a lot is when using the visual keyboard. Being multilingual and having friends who only speak one particular language, there's no single 'correct' input language setting for the word prediction feature, so I started looking into how much work it might be to extend the keyboard with two rather basic, though essential, features:
1) Showing the current language selection, so that I don't have to type stuff, getting it mis-corrected, then discover the language setting must be wrong, go into the settings, select to change language, select language, etc. until I get back, erase the old text and start over. That gets old real quick.
2) Being able to simple change whatever language is used for the word prediction by just having a button on the keyboard doing that directly, i.e. a button that just cycles through the 'relevant' languages with the key label showing which is currently active. Improving it even further, one might imagine:
3) Having a per contact setting, noting the word-prediction language that should be used when communicating with that user. But searching through the docs, I'm slowly coming to the realization that the input text language setting may not even be available to be changed outside the system settings dialog, making this impossible to implement - is that correct?
If I were to purchase a Samsung I7500 in Norway, will it have a Norwegian version of Android? Or do all Android phones have an English GUI? My ideal setup would be English GUI with Norwegian keyboard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to change my region/language setting independently from the general LANGUAGE-SETTING in settings !!!
Ok that means i dont care about the language my apps will be displayed in as long as it is english "which should be in every rom.."
But i do care about the region they are set in... means when i start MIUI News/Weather (geniewidget.apk) I want to see News from Germany and temperature in Celsius..
When I play "who-becomes-rich" I want Euro for currency! and so on ...
Is there any way to set the region like that ? (build.prop or anything else..?)
Im using MIUI v4 with my G-Nex.
So I really want to be able to type in other languages with the Hero keyboard... my friends with iPhones can text each other in different languages, but I can only reply with english. Any idea on how to do this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of some alternative JVM language, however obscure it might be, which can compile to plain old java bytecode, without the need of a language runtime.I need this in order to try to develop android applications without startup or size penalty. Scala, Clojure and Groovy all require its own runtime library distributed with the application, so they are out of the scope of this question. The only one language which claims to satisfy this goal is Charles Nutter's Mirah, but I couldn't make it to work on windows. To clarify a bit, I know any language has to have runtime library. Obviously, what I am looking for is a language that has no additional runtime required besides JRE, or at least very limited one.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFrom what I understood back before ICS there was no way to add another input language dictionary to an already compiled version of android on a phone. So most keyboards with multilingual support have separate language packs which can be downloaded optionally. However, this means you had to choose to use a keyboard other than the built in Android keyboard.
Now that ICS is out I flashed it on my Nexus S and noticed there are add-on dictionaries in the Language & input setting in Android Keyboard under "Keyboard & Input Methods" (click the 3 sliders to your right) and then towards the bottom under "Text correction" clicking on add-on dictionaries brings up a page with all available. Some are installed and some can be installed. Unfortunately none with the language I want.
how do I add another add-on dictionary and has this issue been fixed in the new Android ICS 4.0?Here is some additional info I found over the months of FroYo and GB input language dictionary issue: URL...
