View 3 Replies View RelatedI am inserting around 7000 to 8000 records in my database having 4 tables each having 3 to 4 columns.Its taking me around 22 seconds to do the insertion which is i think is too long. I am using transaction while doing this without which its taking around 55 seconds.According to SQLite documentation , inserting 10000 records in a database takes time around 2 to 3 seconds.Am i missing something ,or is the behaviour correct?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to parse a fairly large XML file (varying between about a hundred kilobytes and several hundred kilobytes), which I'm doing using Xml#parse(String, ContentHandler). I'm currently testing this with a 152KB file.During parsing, I also insert the data in an SQLite database using calls similar to the following: getWritableDatabase().insert(TABLE_NAME, "_id", values). All of this together takes about 80 seconds for the 152KB test file (which comes down to inserting roughly 200 rows).When I comment out all insert statements (but leave in everything else, such as creating ContentValues etc.) the same file takes only 23 seconds.Is it normal for the database operations to have such a big overhead? Can I do anything about that?

View 2 Replies View Relatedyesterday, I spent several hours trying to figure out how to capture the HEADSET_PLUG intent with a BroadcastReceiver. The manifest defines the <receiver>, with its intent-filter set to <action android:name="android.intent.action.HEADSET_PLUG" />.
The receiver is working correctly (I verified that by changing the intent filter to capture things like SMS_RECEIVED including the proper permissions and the receiver fired as expected on receiving an SMS), but when listening for HEADSET_PLUG, it never fires. Debugging the whole thing is a bit complicated, as the emulator doesn't seem to support headsets and I have to disconnect my target device (a HTC Dream) from USB in order to attach a headset (so there's no logfile viewing). Are there any special permissions required for applications to capture the HEADSET_PLUG intent (and if so, which? I've tried several, to no avail)?
Maybe the Dream doesn't fire such an intent at all (that'd be bad luck for me), but I guess that it must be an issue related to application permissions. The documentation says extremely little (well, actually: nothing) about the single permissions needed to perform all the actions described in the API docs, so this is absolutely something to be improved.
What I want to do: Upon detecting a headset, I want to re-route the ringtones from the speakers to the headset, so as not to annoy people in my vicinity by a harsh ringing sound (I'm used to this behaviour from my old phone) - by default, the speaker just keeps on ringing, no matter whether a headset is attached or not. This part is already working, but now I need to know how to detect headset attachment/ detachment events.
I would like to know if it is possible on any android phone to use both a bluetooth or a USB headset and still be able to use the built-in microphone. If it is possible, on which versions of Android?

So I was sondering if this is possible, I am new to Android development and I have been playing around with the Bluetooth samples and cannot seem to figure out how to make other devices see Android as a headset.
So my main question is- Is it possible to make a app that would disguise an android device as a headset so it could receive calls and maybe even dial number?
I would like to clarify if this is even possible with the Android SDK
The main use if i make this app is for people who can't afford the data plan that is required when buying a smartphone from a carrier. So if this person has a small android MID they can pair it with their dumb phone and essentially use their MID as a phone.
I've already connected different bluetooth things to my TF201 (with CM, so it's 4.3.1), but am not able to connect my bluetooth headset to it. The tablet just doesn't see the device. (I already had this problem before I installed CM). Is there something I could change in order to make it visible to the tablet. Most people issues around this is that they don't pair when the device is visible. (I assume that it is not related to the CM)

I have a plantronics pro uc bluetooth headset which syncs up with my phone. I can send SMS and remote access the phone (too slow and clunky to make calls fast and simply).
What I want to be able to do is dial a number from my computer and my phone start call it. Essentially just want the phone on my computer. Paste a number in/dial it etc... click a link and the app/whatever call it.
(P.s. a remote desktop is not the solution as it is too slow - I tried that with MyMobiler. I have a skype number and can pay a small fee for unlimited landline calls but would have to pay for mobiles so this isnt a solution either).
Is there anyway to use an Android phone as a bluetooth headset for the Galaxy Tab (or any Android tablet for that matter)? im planning on getting T-Mobile's prepaid Android 2.2 phone and i want to keep my minute usage down by using Google Voice on the tablet. And since they both have bluetooth capabilities it should be possible to use it in this manner, right? I do not want to use one of those hideous, uncomfortable bluetooth headsets because im already going to have a bluetooth device (the phone) with me that im more comfortable using. Is there any way to do this or an app that enables this functionality?

They claim that they work on Android as well.
Well, they may work, but do they provide better sound quality than the internal phone microphone, turning it into a decent digital recorder for music, for example? (with the right software, of course).
My question isn't really whether those microphones are better quality than the internal microphones, as I assume they are. But does the headphone jack on Android phones (mine is the Galaxy S4) really provide the input capability for better quality sound, including in stereo?
Of course that jack can transfer sound in both directions, headset and microphone, as it is a phone. For output, the phone provides quality stereo music output to headphones, as modern phones are also music players. However, the microphones on phone stereo headsets are generally low quality monaural microphones only suitable for phone calls, usually not better than the internal microphone, might be worse.
So the question is--is the input function of that jack capable of providing quality stereo input, if one has a quality stereo microphone attached? (No matter how good quality the microphone is, if that jack really cannot transmit that quality sound, but reduces it to a very low resolution and frequency-reduced monaural sound, no point at all in attaching such a microphone.

Ideally what I am looking to do is implement tweaks on the stock camera on the One X to allow control of the camera shutter (and ideally zoom) by using the wired headset button. Due to water damage my phone no longer recognizes when a headset is plugged in or not, and thus always thinks that it is plugged in.
I have found an app that forced the audio to play through the speakers of the phone, but i am unable to find an app that does the opposite which is forcing the audio through the headset.
The app that does the opposite of what i need says it does 4 things:
Headset false
A2DP false
SCO false
Speakerphone false
I also realize there are widgets that can accomplish forcing the plug/unplugging of the audio, but i really need a very simple app that forces the audio to headset when opened. (i need the app instead of a widget to use it with tasker and other things, widget is very limiting.)
if it could be done through tasker that would be great too.
So I have two hands free sets in my car, one that works very well with music and another one that works very well with calls.
Now would I in any way be able to connect my Xperia S to both, using one of them solely for music (media) and the other solely for taking calls? If so how do I achieve that?
