Apr 23, 2014Phone settings: Location : Battery Saving (GPS off, using Wifi/network location only)
On Google Play Services 4.0.x - I get very accurate location small circle around where my house is.
After updating to 4.2.25 - I get a large circle - maybe the radius of an entire block / surface area of a cell tower coverage roughly
Uninstall the update to play services (back to 4.0.x) - get very accurate location again.
I am using a RAZR HD with 4.4.2 kit kat / CM11.
Did play services update broke my specific phone?
I would stay on the older Play Services but Hangouts and Maps keep bitching about needing to update it.

Apr 24, 2013after I had surfing internet for a while, I had found a workaround and successfully installed Google Play Services on my device (GT-S5300) with custom rom.

Steps:
1. Download Gapps for your ROM here.
2. Turn off your phone.
3. Enter recovery mode and do Wipe data/factory reset. (Make sure that you have backed up everything.)
4. Flash the Gapps.
5. Wipe Dalvik cache and cache partition then reboot.
6. Get the lastest version of Google Play Store and install it.
7. Update all the Gapps via Play Store.
8. Then install Google Play Services and done!
Or open the Market (Play Store) and tap agree. Then press home and leave it awhile. After the Play Store is updated, open it and tap agree again. The new Play Store should download Google Play Services and install it for you.
NOTE: It may NOT working with some ROMs.

Feb 7, 2014Before that, I was on CM 10.2 and GAPPS that comes with it, I was able to use the market even though I uninstalled the Google services apk, everything worked just fine. Maps sometimes said somethin' like "best experience with google services", but it actually did work smoothy...
Now I installed CM11 with new GAPPS, and when I disable Google services, then Play store tells me that it can't run without it, and just closes without letting me download any app.
Is there any way do bypass this check ? I fight any app running as a service when it's not needed (battery life, data consumsion, privacy), that's why I don't want to have the Google services on my phone.

Dec 13, 2012I have a concern about accessing all Google Play Services from non authorized countries. I think it's a shame there are so many people in so many countries prevented from bying content on play store. Thought first of a petition, but not sure it can have effects. Had a look on xda, there is already a old thread on the subject but not working for most of the repliers, specially me.
Thought some developers would be interested in giving acces to a larger number of people. Looks like more justice to me.

Oct 16, 2010I went to drill today and most of the people in my unit has a droid x except one person has a droid 2. Well both did a speed test. He was at 2.4mb and I was at 1.3mb so im confused. We start looking through our settings to compare. He is on max battery saver with all location services on. Im on max performance with no location services on. So I turn on wireless network location services and retest. I get 2.2mb just like that. Does anyone know why it would make a difference? Also I noticed his reception was at- 70db while I was at- 82. Can anyone think of why he would have better reception than me?

May 21, 2013I am using a Samsung Tab 2 10.1 P5113 and I updated my Google Play Music app to the update released on May 15th (the one with the "All Access" feature and ever since then it keeps crashing. It is completely unusable. I have tried everything I could think of. I was on CM 10.1 nightlies, then i went back completely to stock, I've unrooted, wiped, uninstalled, re installed, and every other idea I could think of. (Note that I have root and am running on stock Touchwiz so I can post a logcat if you need me to, also all of the other Play Music versions worked just fine for me.
