General :: GS2 I9100 / CM9 - Full Device Encryption Android
Jul 9, 2013
I'm on gs2 I9100 cyanogenmod 9 and can't find a solution to encrypt internal databases like sms, call logs, contacts... ( so in /data).
No problems with documents in container created by luksmanager. But i wonder is it possible to make a sort of preboot script who mount after correct passphrase a luks container who is symlinked in /data ? Because android ics built in encryption installation stop at beginning.
Is there now new method or app to encrypt full or partial phone? Maybe new encryption function or improvement in JB? Pattern/face unlock fixed?

So the title may be a bit hard to comprehend but the gist of it is that I turned on full device encryption and since then when I transfer the pics off the phone to a computer they cannot be viewed. The message I get is corrupted metadata, the sizes on them seem right, I have not tried to view the exif data through a utility yet to see what exactly is corrupted.
I can still see the pics on the device, and share them online, but when I copy them off of the device they are broken. I've tried a couple of jpg recovery tools without any luck.
Most similar posts I've seen related to this is a corrupted sd cared (but this is on the internal one and only started after I turned encryption on).
And to confuse things a bit more, if I email the pic off it works correctly. So the problem seems to be just directly pulling them off the device, or browsing them when they are on the phone but connected to a machine. Same thing happens in linux and windows with various software.

If one enables full device encryption in Ice Cream Sandwich, am I correct in assuming that that the internal SD of that device is now not going to be available in the CWM recovery mode? And even if it was, the root fs would not be available? If so, this pretty much would make CWM flashing your device near impossible?
Does CWM even work if you use FDE? Or is it planned/
The question I guess is, when do you input your encryption password? Is it some pre-boot step?
I really want to enable device encryption but I can't find enugh details on how it works.

I'm interested in encrypting my phone (rootbox 4.2) including the external SD Card (if that's possible..?) but i need to know if you do it, then let's say you take that sd card out of the phone and plug it in your pc, how do you access the data? And is that still impossible to unencrypt the phone after it was encrypted (i mean on last android versions)?

When I go to system settings -> security -> encrypt phone, with phone fully charged and plugged in and a suitable PIN set, the phone reboots back to lock screen but does not appear to do anything to actually encrypt the phone. After reboot, the option remains looking identical in the settings menu. No error messages or the like.
The lock screen works fine (PIN required), the PIN is suitably long, everything is updated, etc.
I'm not sure what the issue is. I rooted & changed ROM immediately on getting the phone (it's new), so I don't know whether it would've worked w/ stock bootloader / rom / etc.
I'm running:
Nexus 4 (android 4.2.2)
ParanoidAndroid 3.65 (pa_mako-3.65-20130712 + pa_gapps-full-4.2-20130710)
TWRP bootloader (openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-mako)

I am running Android 4.1.1 on a Samsung GT-I9250M Galaxy Nexus.
Third, I have two carriers: a Straight Talk Unlimited Prepaid SIM (United States GSM/HSDPA) & a Claro Prepaid SIM (Honduras, GSM)
1) I installed the Straight Talk SIM in the phone.
2) I installed the battery in the phone.
3) I powered on the phone.
4) I enabled full disk encryption, choosing an easy-to-memorize password.
... over two weeks, i successfully decrypt the phone on boot 30 - 40 times with the password ...
... then i travel to honduras and purchase a Claro SIM ...
5) I powered off the phone.
6) I installed the Claro SIM in the phone.
7) When prompted to "type password to decrypt storage" I enter the correct password.
8) I am prompted to "try again."
9) I enter the correct password.
10) I m prompted to "try again."
11) I powered off the phone.
12) I installed the Straight Talk SIM in the phone.
13) When prompted to "type password to decrypt storage" I enter the correct password.
14) I am prompted to "try again."
15) I enter the correct password.
16) I am prompted to "try again"
I have tried booting with the Straight Talk SIM, the Claro SIM, and with no SIM. I have tried removing the battery. I am able to boot in Recovery Mode. However, performing a factory reset is not a viable option for me. I need to regain access to my phone. Why would the encryption key be altered by the SIM change? And wouldn't reinstalling the Straight Talk SIM be enough?

Any way to revert back to a gesture-based lock screen after enabling encryption on my LG730 with android 4.0.4. I ran the SQLite queries (had to pull the DB and edit on my PC, then push it back), generated a gesture key and pushed it to the phone, restarted and... no dice. The lock screen is still asking for a password to unlock it.

I'm from India and we do not have full play store. As soon as I login even when using USA VPN, play store shows me only apps and not the full version. as soon as i logout i can again view full play store.
Till 2 days ago I was able to access full site after login. On same PC when I use my brother's id I can see full play store. Something wrong with my account. It seems like Google has blocked my account for these services. M not able to make any purchases other than from App section.

For the last 5 days I am experiencing extreme battery drainage(Android OS nearly 100% Battery Usage ). Back when it began I did not install anything suspicious or battery consuming software. I never go full screen brightness, and all unnecessary apps are either deleted or disabled. I have tried Factory Resetting, Wiping all possible caches, systems, internal/external SD cards. I even tried manually deleting all folders from my PC. I have tried installing custom kernels, roots and even stock ROM. Right now I'm with stock ROM with CF root.
Phone state: Model number- GT-i9100; Android 4.0.3; Baseband v. i9100XXLPS, Kernel v. 3.0.15-i9100XXLPQ-CL223505 se,infra@SEP-94 #3; Built number IML74K.XWLP7. And here is what I get from the battery report :
i41.tinypic(dot)com/1j9nae.png
I have tried full discharge and charge to 100% and calibration. Even cleared the battery stats It just doesn't work. I am using Nova Launcher. Even after going back to TwLauncher I am still getting 98% Android OS usage. I don't use Data Mode and Wi-Fi isn't always on. When charged and calibrated at 100% at 21:00pm, in the morning at 9:00am phone battery is completely empty and shut down.
I'd like to use the stock ROM, with a nice battery stable kernel & still with Nova Launcher. NOTE: This is still happening with a NEW battery.

I had an encrypted I9100 on Cyanogenmod 9. After a factory reset I installed Cyanogemod 10.1. Everything runs smoothly, but about 12gb of my internal sd space was misplaced during the installation and is now missing. Only 2 gb is currently available. /sdcard cannot be mounted, something about /sdcard/android_secure
I ran some commands in adb, and the space is still there, but it needs to be replaced / repartitioned somehow.
df -h
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
tmpfs 395.6M 48.0K 395.6M 0% /dev
/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 98.4M 87.0M 11.4M 88% /cache
~ # mount /data

I'm looking for some custom Jelly Bean 4.3 Roms based on official Samsung Rom for my i9100, so it would have Touchwiz also.Currently i keep switching between CM10.2 (4.3.1) and Wanamlite 14.7 (4.1.2).
I like Wanamlite just because it uses the Samsung Touchwiz interface i like so much. Other than that, any other stock Rom, rooted and debloated would do just about the same. What i like about CM10.2 and cyanogenmod in general is the speed and stability the Rom feels like. Also, the latest 4.3 Roms gave me infinitely great battery lives compared to any other JB Rom i tried since. And judging from other posts and reviews on the internet, Google worked their magic on 4.3 for small batteries run through the day (almost double the life of 4.1.2 or even worst 4.2.x). So it seems the perfect combo for me would be a 4.3 custom with TW.

I'd want root access is to install Titanium Backup or a firewall to freeze/block access to a certain Chinese Android Market app. The app in question sends out a notification to feature new Chinese apps everytime the phone is given internet access and there are no options to disable it within the app itself. And since it came with the phone, it cannot be uninstalled, and of course, it restarts immediately if stopped.
One-clicks do not work-- they all result in directory/permission errors. For example, superoneclick will hang on step 7 and doomlord's method would reboot the phone without making any changes.
It would seem my only resort would be to use a different ROM, but there are no ROMs for this phone. Of course there are methods using similar MTK 6573 phones which are usually just clones in different casings, but I've read that using non-specific ROMs will result in a brick as there are slight differences. So how should I go about rooting this phone? What are the risks of using a non-specific ROM?

I'm a Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 user and I wanted to know how to run touchwiz in tablet mode. Do i have to decompile SecLauncher2.apk and edit the code so that it becomes accurate when using with landscape mode or is there an xposed module. Or do i edit build.prop file? I don't want to install other launchers or get ParanoidAndroid.

When I got my phone at the end of last year I rooted it using a Chain-Fire kernel - v 4.2, I think. After flashing, it worked perfectly, since when I have flashed the old bootloader to get my USB Jig working to remove the yellow triangle and flashed a patch again to allow the USB Jig to reset the binary counter.
I have very much wanted to install and get the new Sky Go application working.
What I had to do was flash the Stock kernel for my Stock Rom - I have never messed with my Rom - it is Gingerbread 2.3.4 in a CPW phone here in the UK.
Doing the flash and installing Voodoo OTA (to temporarily hide my root) has been enormously successful
Now then to my query....
The original Chain-Fire mod v 4.2 installed CWM.
After of course cancelling the "hide root" function to show my phone as rooted once more, I went to do a backup, using CWM but it refuses to work. It says my kernel needs v 5.0. Obviously the Stock Rom I flashed to get Sky Go working has thrown CWM some what.
I have downloaded Rom Manager from the Market but this seems not to work either - it starts to work (reboots) but then halts with the following messages: -
E : failed to verify whole-file signature
E : signature verification failed
Installation aborted
What I would like is some way of installing a backup previously made before flashing the Stock kernal and also to make a fresh backup now.

Recently, my phone is leaking power in a crazy speed. (i9100 4.0.3). Before sleep, I turned off bluetooth, wifi, 3G, gps, all motion sensors. Switched it to flight mode. After about 7-hour sleep, 10% battery was lost. This happened for the last few month.
I installed DX BatteryBooster, from its monitor I learnt that almost all the power went to Android System, if click at it, it says included packages:
Remote Device Management Service.
Software update
Video Maker
What are these services how do I turn them off?
