General :: Droid 4 - How To Copy Video / Pics From Phone Onto PC
Jul 31, 2012
All I want to do is get the pictures that are on my phone in my "My Gallery => My Library" folder onto my PC.It should be so simple, yet nothing I do works. My camera is set to Storage Location: SD Card...I plug in my USB cable and my phone pops up with 4 options:
1) PC Mode
2) Windows Media Sync
3) USB Mass Storage
4) Charge Only
I obviously tried USB Mass Storage first. When I open "My Computer" on the PC i have 3 choices:
-Removable Disk (M)
-MOT (L)
-MotoCast (I wont use this, its horribly designed and a huge pain to use)
None of those choices will show me my entire Library. No matter what i do, I only get the pictures that I had previously copied from my old phone onto this one. Then i tried PC Mode. This time i get a pop-up with a bunch of options tht look useless.I open My Computer and get the smae thing as before.
Why in the world did Motorola make this so ridiculously complicated? When i plug in the USB cable I should get a simple pop-up with one of the options asking me if i want to see my SD card.

I am trying to put videos onto my Desire but with no joy. I'm dragging the files from my computer into folders on my Desire but cant seem to find them on my phone. Even when i do a search on my phone find it comes up with nothing. I cant even find a video player in which to look for them. Can someone give me a guide on which folders video's should be placed into, and how to find them on my phone and view them?

I am wondering how you all get your HD video files to your Android device. I have a library of 720p MP4 (x264/AAC) videos on optical discs (CD/DVD). The files are 1-4GB each. I'd like to casually select a video and watch it on my Galaxy Nexus. The phone is certainly capable of playing the videos smoothly and at full 720p resolution. However, it's getting the files to the device in a timely fashion that's the problem. Here's what I've tried so far:I can load a disc into my desktop, copy the files to a local file server, and then transfer to my phone using SFTP or Samba/CIFS. The phone's wifi speed seems to cap out at about 1MB/sec on my 802.11n network so it would take 30 minutes to transfer one file! The phone's storage would fill up quickly too, but I could always delete old ones after I watch them. With such a slow transfer, I'd really have to plan in advance - not to mention the multiple steps to copy from disc to desktop to server to phone. I have tried several different apps and protocols. All seem to cap out at about 10Mbit/sec while a laptop gets 50-60Mbit/sec easy. My previous Android devices from different brands also had this limit so perhaps it's all that's supported by those tiny radios?
I prefer to use Linux on the desktop but there don't seem to be good solutions for MTP and PTP transfers under Linux.I booted into a Windows machine, put a disc in the drive and attempted to copy to the device via USB 2.0. It was a bit quicker, but I was only able to get 2-4MB/sec so copying a handful of movies all at once takes over an hour - and I'm constantly interrupting my workflow rebooting into different operating systems.
I've considered getting a USB OTG cable so that I could plug an external (self-powered) DVD drive into the phone. However, I haven't found a definitive answer on whether or not generic USB DVD drives are supported via USB Host. Most seem to think they are not.I'd remove an SD card and use a USB card reader on my desktop, but the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have one.It would be nice to stream the movies from my network file server, but I haven't found a good solution for that either. Most of the file browsing apps that claim to support streaming actually copy files locally temporarily instead of reading them incrementally from the server. Since I run Linux, I don't have the capability of running those specialized Windows apps that simulate streaming from the desktop. I could root the phone and manually mount network drives, but the management of that doesn't seem elegant given I'm not always in range of my home network and I'd also like to take some with me on the go.
Once the movies are on the phone, they play great and I have no problems. It's just quite a challenge to get them there in a reasonable timeframe without headaches. How do those of you who watch HD movies on your phones handle this?

I don't get it. I actually really like the stock camera app that comes with the phone. But if I take a picture or video, I can't view it. It's like it's instantly corrupted. It sucks cause I had some good pictures and video but now they are basically gone. I have downloaded another camera app and I get reliable pictures that aren't corrupted. But I would prefer to use the stock one cause it just seems to react quicker. What apps do you use for taking pictures?

I used the video camera on my Eris to record a video, but I can't seem to find the folder that the video is stored in when I connect it to my computer, so I cannot copy it to my computer. I used Astro to try to find it on the phone, but I can't seem to find it that way either.
The file is too large to send via email, and I cannot use bluetooth transfer. I would like to get the video off of my phone, and onto my computer. Any suggestions?

I have an android phone (Moto Droid Mini XT1030, though i wouldn't think it should matter) and i want the pictures i take with it to automatically be sent to a folder on my PC everytime i am connected to a wifi network. Currently they automatically go to Google+ which is of debatable value. Sometimes Google products are fantastic and other times they seem to be missing such blatantly obvious features that it makes me crazy... but i digress.
I don't want to install any 3rd party apps if at all possible, especially on the PC. I already have G Drive installed on the PC and a drive folder would be sufficient (as opposed to a conventional folder on the PC) if that's easier to accomplish.

Me and the wife have android phones. There is the same free app on both of them, but hers was set up to NOT automatically update. Mine was set up to automatically update. She has v2.0 of an app (Samsung Charge) while I have v2.2. I would like to go back to v2.0 on my phone (Motorola BIONIC). I have turned my auto updates off too.
I can't seem to find an old version 2.0 of this app so was wondering if I could simply copy the app from her phone to mine. Is this possible? Can I just go into her phone and "copy" the app's folder/files? Do I maybe need to first move it to the memory card before attempting to copy it? Or is there more involved than just this?

My daughter's cell was taken away by her dad (who we don't live with), and she has all of her music and photos on it. We are trying to figure out a way to access and save/download them without having physical access to the phone. I don't know the google/gmail account associated with the phone. Is there any way to change the gmail account for that phone and then be able to access photos and music data? We just want her pictures and music, and the only thing I can figure is that without knowing the gmail account of the phone, there's no other way to get this. Also not sure if it's all saved in the google account since the music was DL'd using 3rd party music apps.

I have a dead Nexus S 4g that won't power up anymore, tech guy at the phone store couldn't figure out why. I got a 2nd working Nexus S 4G afterwards. I want to move the pics from the old phone to the new phone but because the NS4g has NO external SD Card, and the hard drive in the old phone is soldered onto the motherboard, I don't want to remove the solder from the old board and put it onto the new phone, it sounds messy and a lot of work and I'm afraid to "screw" it up even more. I want to move the entire board onto the new phone and try to retreive the pics and then move it back. I don't know if this will work but I want to try it out anyway.
1 of the tiny screws from the new phone was stripped and I can't unscrew it to disassemble it ! I've been searching online and people generally have bigger screws to remove (on bigger hardware) but couldn't find much on tiny screws on a delicate electronics like our smartphones, thus posting here now. How to get the pics out.

So I take a picture with my Droid X, and it doesn't save at all.It seems to be tied to the GPS, because if I wait for the GPS to tag the photo, then it SEEMS to work MOST of the time. Thing is, I can't wait for the GPS all of the time, I just want a point and click cam. I have tried disabling the GPS and it doesn't seem to work until I reboot the phone. Anyone else having this issue, any suggestions?

I've to develop a software which can copy all audio and Video files from Android device to System
What to cover first, either linux kernel or android system interface.
Do I need to learn linux kernel programming or android system interface only
This backup could be possible from one of the medium via USB cable or WiFi or other form of connectivity.

I took the video of my grandson swearing in to the U. S. Air Force on my Droid Bionic phone using COLOR and thinking I was broadcasting it live, but evidentally I was not. SO now I have it on my phone only and cannot find a way to share the video. I am deathly afraid it will get damaged or lost. His mom died in a homicide and needless to say this is a valuable piece of family memory to me to risk losing if the phone gets lost or damaged.

When I connect my DX to a computer with the USB cable, I usually use "PC Mode" or "Windows Media Sync" instead of "USB Mass Storage". Because (a) then I can still access the SD card on the phone, and (b) I don't need to remember to unmount the SD card from the PC before disconnecting the cable.
The strange thing is that on my work computer, I can copy files from the phone to the computer no problem. But on my home computer, when I try to copy a file, nothing happens. (I have Windows XP on both computers). I see the SD card directory tree in Explorer on the PC. I drag a file from one of the SC card folders into a folder on my PC. But then nothing happens.
If I use "USB Mass Storage", then it works well okay.
