View 3 RepliesMany roms use custom host files for adblocking purposes. How could you deactivate that? I'm using CyberGR now and I don't like this tweak.
Large hosts, it slows dns requests.
why my hosts file gets reset after a reboot no matter whether I change with adaway or adblock or if I manually replace the hosts file myself and set to read only. Have searched about and only solution I read about was get a custom kernel. Although I am already on a custom kitkat ROM and using dorimanx kernel for galaxy s2. Also never had problems with hosts resetting on jb or ICS. Even creating a symlink to data/data/hosts doesn't work. On reboot the symlink just gets replaced with the original useless hosts file.

The smartphone is broken, the tactil screen don't respond, and i only can enter by adb in recovery sistem and too i can disassemble the smartphone.
i edited /system/etc/hosts file but it looks that my edit is ignored by Android.
In "hosts" file i added line with text "1.1.1.1 customdomain" And then i used "ping customdomain" command in Terminal Emulator but i got error "unknown host am".
I deleted my hosts file on my droid RAZR Max. How to replace it or place a link for it so I can download it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing AdAway v2.8 but end up getting stuck on the final step to enabling ad blocking, "Applying hosts file".
If you are trying to enable AdAway but are stuck on "Applying hosts file" as seen in the screenshot below:
1. Download a root explorer. I prefer using Root Explorer because I think its the best file explorer on the android market. If you have problems with purchasing apps you can always use the free version Explorer, or if you prefer using another file explorer that's fine, just make sure it has root access enabled.
2. Once you have a file explorer installed that has root access enabled, navigate to "system/etc" and find the file labeled "hosts" as seen in the screenshot below.
3. Hold down/select the file labeled "hosts" and select "permissions" from the selection as seen in the screenshot below.
4. After selecting permissions a window should have popped up where you can change the permissions of the file as seen in the screenshot below.
5. Change the permissions of the hosts file to "rw-rw-rw" just like in the screenshot below. Hit "OK" to apply the permission changes and close the file explorer completely and head back over to AdAway.
6. Once you have AdAway back open, click "Download files and apply ad blocking" and try again. Depending on your internet connection it shouldn't take very long, but you should see something like this, hit "Yes".
7. After your phone has rebooted, open AdAway again and you should see something like this saying newest hosts files enabled.
AdAway is now working and ad blocking is enabled!
i think i deleted the wrong files and now my phone won't go back the "HTC ONE" screen. I've done the process of a recovery and then allow the red triangle to come up, from there i know i should hold power + Up, and that should take me to a black screen with blue letters, and i should select something about "partition" but this black and blue screen, i remember seeing it as a thumbnail in a folder i deleted. I thought it was an ad photo saved onto my phone as spam (as the folder was named adSOMETHING) and so i deleted it and now, i feel i have have screwed myself over. I have no way of getting another phone right now. How can i get my laptop to read my phones connection and allow me to copy and paste the files needed to get it running again?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWould like to know, from someone who has tried it, if changing an Application's title in the Developer Console has any affect on the applications Ratings or Number of download statistics. In other words, will I lose anything?
My impression is no, but I don't recall if documentation says that explicitly or if its just implied. Would like to know from someone who has tried it. I don't want to experiment with my app.
Steps to change Title. Go to Developer Console->click link for the app->Look for Listing Details-> Change the Title ->click Save
I'm developing a mobile website and I want to see how it looks in Android Simulator.
I manage to edit my android's /etc/hosts file. Here's what I did:
1. Create an Android Virtual Device (AVD)
2. Open the AVD with this command
Code:
./emulator -avd android -partition-size 128
3. Execute the following commands
Code:
./adb remount
4. Get the android hosts file
Code:
./adb pull /etc/hosts
5. Add my mobile website into the android's hosts file. It looks like the following
Code:
127.0.0.1 localhost
172.19.14.46 m.myweb.localhost
6. Push the hosts file to the simulator
Code:
./adb push hosts /etc/hosts
7. Open the web mobile in the simulator and Host do not found. The web mobile should appear.
Btw I use Ubuntu 10.10 and android-sdk_r08-linux_86 API 7 (Android SDK 2.1)
I understand how to use the Settings>Applications>Manage Applications process to clear settings for applications. Unfortunately, I managed to set .xls files to open with the included QuickOffice on my Droid. QuickOffice is not listed in the Manage Applications list. Does anyone know a method to reset this file open binding?
View 8 Replies View RelatedAs advised by the experts, I did a factory reset when my phone went wacky on me. I didn't actually have Froyo installed when this happened, but as soon as I did the reset, I received a system prompt concerning the available upgrade and took it. My phone works better now, but but battery performance is about the same.
I have also been advised that battery performance (as in better than ever), among other things works best with a clean install, not the upgrade. Since I did a factory reset before taking the upgrade, I wonder if this is equivalent to a clean install, or if the clean install would still be worth my effort. If it's the latter, there is only one resource for clean install files which I have been referred to, which cannot help me because I don't have an XP machine available (I did try it on Windows 7). If a clean install is, in any case, the best option, are there any Win7 installation files available for Froyo?
I am trying to edit the hosts file to access rest services in my local network. Using adb pull I am able to get the hosts file for the emulator and edit it. However I get the error "No space left on device" when I do an adb push.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? Can we increase the space for /system? If so how? Are there any other easier ways to access local area network (without creating a DNS server).
Anyone having trouble with widgets stop updating? Like my clock/calendar/weather/news/pretty much any widget i have stops updating after an hour. So i look at my clock widget two hours later and it is an hour behind. Happens to ALL my widgets.Even the quick turn on/off wifi,bt,gps and such. They just stop updating/showing animation.I have ADW launcher installed. I am wondering if it is that. I do not really want to remove it as i hate the stock 3 button interface at the bottom (why do i need a contacts and phone, just use the phone to look thru contacts, wasted space IMO) and am quite keen on keeping the 5 button.Any ideas? If i power off the phone and turn it back on it's fine again for about an hour. SOmetimes randomly thru the day it will start updating and working fine again then randomly stop again.
View 12 Replies View Relatedgot a Samsung Galaxy S4 (for several years I had iPhones) and I am enjoying it. Now that I have gotten all my music files away from iTunes' clunky clutches I have reorganized them and they are on my S4's sim card and it works great.
The issue is that I have updated a few of the files and moved a couple more around. I want to update those music files on my S4 from my PC. I could just delete the Music folder on the S4 and recopy everything over, but that seems to be a huge overkill.
What is a good way to compare files between my S4 and folders on the PC and match/update between the two? I am using Windows 7. I have tried to map the Sim Card as a drive but couldn't get that to work. I have Kies from Samsung but that is kinda clunky. I have also tried AirDroid (which I think is great) but I can't really sync files with that. Normally I would use a Windows application like Beyond Compare or WinMerge to do something like this.
I am on a standard website that has a normal upload button, I need to upload a PDF file, But when I click on the upload button on the web site a popup window from my Android phone appears and says "Choose action" and gives me access to the gallery, camcorder, voice recorder , choose music track, gallery (again), select music track and voice recorder (again).
I need to some how get access to my SD card and my download folder to be able to pick the the pdf file that I need to upload. I have tried this both on the default internet browser and Google Chrome, but both give the same options.
I am on a rooted HTC ONE on ATT
My Sandisc 64GB SD card went kaputt last week, it froze at 33GB, luckily the existing files are all ok and I was able to copy all the files onto my PC, however nothing new can be written to it. I've tried formatting with no success. So I copied the files onto the PC and just got a new this time Samsung 64GB micro SD card. Problem I'm having now is that on several attempts it's failed to copy the files back to my SD card (from PC) I've formatted the card in the Note 3..the music files about 4 GB transferred just fine, the problem seems to be with the Pix and Videos. I'm currently trying to copy the DCIM folder back onto the micro sd and it's saying it'll take 6 hours.
I have tried: copying from PC to micro SD in the phone via USB copying from PC to micro SD in SD card adapter plugged directly into PC
copying from PC to micro SD in USB adapter plugged into PC
all results the same
im trying to exchange some files in /system/framework of a stock jellybean 4.2.1 rom that came with my nexus 10.
I have built a workin rom from AOSP sources and made little adjustments that are present in /system/framework/services.jar and services.odex
I have built full_manta-user (not -userdebug!) so that the rom gets odexed and matches my stock rom.
The problem is i get stuck in a boot loop when i use my services.odex file on my stock rom. Is there a way to make it work or debug it?
For the noobs What is the difference? And how do you do both?
Why a Froyo factory reset really isn't (plus, a fix for upgrade issues) | Android Central Its in reference to the X but I am going to factory reset tonight and see what happens."If you're one of those folks who is less than pleased with your Droid X after the Froyo update, this one's for you. Android Central Forums member Fabrian was at wit's end, and even talked of ditching his X (blasphemy!) because of the random bugs, general weirdness, and plain old unsatisfactory performance of his unit since the update. His last-ditch effort and ingenuity seems to have paid off. The secret? He has completely disabled the Froyo feature that restores data from previous installs. It's really just a matter of turning off the automatic restore feature before logging back into your Google account. It's a little odd that "Automatic Restore" is still checked by default, even when "Back up my data" isn't, but there you go.The method isn't too painful and does require one more factory reset, but the payoff appears to be a much smoother experience. Makes sense, too restoring data from Eclair to Froyo probably isn't a very good idea even if it is convenient.
We've verified it here, a hard reset in Froyo isn't really a hard reset, as things come back by themselves. Follow Fabrian's instructions, and you will have a pristine Froyo installation on your Droid X (or Nexus One -- Sense on Froyo has no setting for this that we could find). Any troublemaking leftovers will be no more, and won't get downloaded and installed automatically again. If you're being plagued with myriad tiny bugs in your Droid X after the update, give it a try! [Android Central Forums] Thanks Fabrian, nice sleuthing!"
If you do a master reset with the Nexus one will you lose all your apps? even the ones that you purchased?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI rooted my AT&T GS3, with the intentions of putting CM10 on it. However, I've realized that I have no real need for a custom ROM, as my phone already does everything it needs to. In addition, I don't want to risk bricking my phone.I got the notification for an update to Android 4.2.1, from what my phone is running now, 4.1.1. Honestly, I have no intention to add a new ROM now, and I really just want the features of the new update. So, my question is, if I update the OS on a rooted phone via an OTA update, is there any chance of my phone being bricked or all of my data being wiped? Overall, is it completely safe to update?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to install an OTA, but I had rooted it using TWRP and then followed so many procedures in trying to restore to stock that I think my phone's wasted. I have been doing a lot of reading, but I apparently suck since nothing seems to make sense (or that everything seems so disconnected). It appears that what could be one long, detailed post about something is to be found in many different posts, but I understand that since there are so many phones and each one probably needs its own way of being handled.
All right, I installed adb, fastboot, an htc utility toolkit, downloaded 3 different img files (one says recoverytest.img, which is from androidruu.com/k2_cl, another one was put here on xda by one of the members, and that was simply recovery.img, and another one called HTC_ One_ Sv_K2_ Ul_boot_ signed.img <-- this is probably the wrong file since my bootloader screen says k2_Cl).
my phone was rooted. SuperSU was working fine, and one day somehow I lost the root access when SuperSU upgraded. Tried a few methods to upgrade manually but none worked. So after installing all those above, I did a variety of commands like revone, fastboot flash recovery.img, fastboot oem lock, fastboot flash boot recovery.img, all based on what was mentioned one one thread or another on the forum and mostly all of them gave me some kind of an error.
So I'm stuck now. My phone does nothing. When I reboot from bootloader, it says in red "this is for development purposes only, blah, blah". When I download the update and try installing it, the phone simply restarts. When I try to do factory reset from the hboot, the phone simply goes back into fastboot menu. My phone apparently doesn't have an RUU, only a recoverytest.img.
Here's where I am and I want to do what next. I jsut installed android sdk, and installed 4.1.2 package (which is the current version on my phone), and I want to update to 4.2.2, which is the latest update for htc one sv on boostmobile (installed the package for that in sdk also).
(A lot of people were also asking for cid, mid and phone model, and I have no clue how to make sure that the .img file is the same as my phone's).I know I am all over the place, and call me a knucklehead, but I genuinely do not understand a lot of the things that are mentioned on the forums. Every thread mentions a process, and within each process is contained a subprocess which I equally do not know.
While I go from fastboot usb to hboot, the screen flickers for a couple seconds an dmessages like "sd checking: no image or bad image" appear for a couple seconds and then I see the hboot menu. The way I understand how to do this (in layman terms) is as follows:
1. Restore to stock {by first turning S-Off, then lock the bootloader, and then RUU. I cannot get S-off using revone (revone failed, error code 2 or error code -1); the bootloader is "relocked", and I cannot get to do anything with the RUU (iow I don't know what to do with it)}.
2. Restore to factory settings.
3. Download and install the OTA 4.2.2 update.
id like to update to 4.3, but as far as I know, only a few people have had success keeping root, without having to re root. Is it at all possible, such as if I used superSU pro survival mode, or something else? I don't have access to a computer to re root, and want know if has had success with keeping root. I don't wanna risk bricking the phone.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI noticed late last night that since my update I am no longer getting any notifications (Facebook, Gmail, Twitter etc etc) since updating to 4.3 on my Nexus 7.
