any way to disable the phone radio WITHOUT that stupid "flight mode" or whatever? In Windows Mobile, I had a Comm Manager and I just had to press a button when I wanted to turn off the phone without any stupid flight mode crap, and this is one of my biggest complains about Android.

Not sure if anyone has faced this issue on Samsung Captivate? I searched the forum but did not find this posted. So I took a flight and found out something weird
1. Enable Flight Mode
2. Turn Off the phone
3. Turn on the phone
4. Disable Flight Mode
-You see the 3G icon appear now. Try accessing the internet, go to the browser, or sync your email - it does not work.
5. Turn off the phone
6. Turn on the phone
-- Now everything should be working as normal
I tried it a couple of times again to be sure and every time the issue occurs. There was no wifi access when I tried the above.
I have an Acer liquid Metal, on ginger, rooted. The smartphone once time rooted, was good, during many weeks... After the last change of hour ( i say it, but i don't know if there any coinsidence), my smartphone who was on automatique date/hour, was always bloqued in flight mode. If i change the mode, it will be good during seconds, and back in flight mode.
I have changed it, in manual mode, i put the time and date, and now it stay in Gsm mode, all is correct.
But when i put on my smartphone, it run under flight mode, i must change it, put in gsm mode, and it stay like that.
But the problem, is at each power up, i must begin this operation.
I have just migrated from a BB Bold to an HTC Desire, and this is my question:
In the BB Bold, one of the functions it had was that you could switch your phone to the 'Bedside mode', which would put the phone into a 'Sleep' mode and it would not allow any calls or messages to be delivered until the phone was taken out of the Bedside mode, and then you could see your messages that have been queued and waiting to be delivered.
In the Desire, does the 'Flight' mode carry out the same function or not? If not, is there another function that can put the Desire into sleep mode, keep the Alarm function active, and queue the messages for delivery when the phone is taken out of the Flight or Sleep mode?
I just got my desire and was downloading/syncing etc., and wanted to make sure I did it over WiFi rather than 3G but couldn't seem to get that to work or wasn't sure if I had. I tried flight mode like iphone but that seem to turn off WiFi too - so then tried normal mode and mobile network set to off - this seemed to leave the signal bars showing, so phone not actually off - so does that mean that data is off?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIf you go into settings/date and time the first option is a check box that says Automatic (use network-provided values). If you uncheck that it does not stick through a reboot. Upon restarting your phone this box will be checked once again. Now for the interesting part. If I put the phone into flight mode, uncheck the automatic box and then change the time and/or date. The instant I re-check automatic the time is reset correctly. How is this possible? I thought that flight mode actually turned the radio off. If it does indeed turn the radio off then how is the phone able to instantly set the time to the correct value?

I am quite satisfied with it, but i have quite an irritating problem, my GPRS keeps on going back every now and then, like once every 2 minutes and then i have to turn the Flight mode on/off to bring it back. It might not be a problem in countries where 3G is available but here in India it's quite unsettling to see such a nuance in such a wonderful OS. I know it's not a problem with the carrier(Vodafone for me) as nokia phones work seamlessly in the same area.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Sprint HTC Hero, updated to 1.56 and it still has horrendous battery life. I charged it to 100%, unplugged it, didn't touch it once and 4 hours later the battery was almost dead. After troubleshooting I think that the ZERO cellular reception I get in my home is the culprit. I believe that the phone is constantly searching for service and causing a battery drain. The HTC Sense widget only turns off the Cellular DATA, but not the actually radio. I would like to be able to leave WiFi on (i use Google Voice SMS at home) and disable the CDMA Radio alltogether.. is there a way?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm currently trying to flash my phone to the Android 2.1 ROM in this thread, but am stuck on updating the radio (one of the prerequisites of the howto is having the latest radio firmware).I've followed this guide to root the phone (successfully!), however the last step is updating the radio. I've downloaded the latest radio img file and renamed it to update.zip, but when I reboot (holding down the back key) I don't get an option to install this file (I get the three little skater dudes, and press vol-down for HBOOT mode etc). How do I force this to come up?As a side issue, I also don't appear to have a recovery mode any more? If I reboot recovery, my phone hangs on the Hero logo and goes no further (I've waited approx 15 mins for it to boot). How can I recreate my recovery profile?

I'm assuming I can't get any notifications (i.e. Instant Messenger clients, Google Voice, etc.) while the 3G is off, but not sure. I want to control the system settings "auto brightness", setting it ON or OFF.I'm able to control the brightness level but only if AUTO is OFF. From what I read until now there is a SCREEN_BRIGHTNESS_MODE in Settings.System but only for API level 8 or higher and also not recommended to mess wit it. But currently my phone has Android 2.1 (API 7) and there are widgets that can control this setting (enable/disable auto brightness and set the level). How is this done?

I'm running a d1 with LFY on it and wanted to see how widget locker runs for everyone else. Its cool but its also somewhat irritating.The most irritating this is I have "easy wake mode" disabled but I notice that still like 10% of the time touching the volume or camera button will wake the phone.I wind up with my phone buzzing around in my pocket frequently because its woken up and thinks i'm trying to unlock it.The other issue I have is it seems to get killed a lot.I realize that isn't really a fault of WL as much as its a ram issue (launcher pro gets killed a little more often than I'd like too despite trying what seems like every possible memory setting) but is there anything I can do about that?Something that will perhaps be sure its relaunched more promptly?
