Is there a possibility in Android to view the Cell Info (the name of the cell base, base station etc. - ex. the city name) in Android? Whatever - an option, an app or a widget?
Is there a way I can get access to the following information from the cell. I know that it uses a Qualcomm MSM7201A chip. I know qualcomm unleashes a boat load of information such as: Pilots-Channels PN offset Neighbours Searches PN Codes Power Control-TX and RX Slot DRC Signal Noise Ratio Carrier to Noise Ratio Energy to Noise Ratio
So the question is can I get access to all this information and are there APIs from Android that I can use.
So far the closets I have come is in telephony/PhoneStateListener telephony/NeighboringCellInfo telephony/CellLocation telephony/TelephonyManager
I'm writing an android application that collects cell signal strengths.I am having trouble getting the "current" cell signal strength, but I don't have any problem getting the "neighboring" cell signal strengths. To get the current cell signal strength, I created a PhoneStateListener and implemented the onSignalStrengthChanged callback. It works, but not very well.It seems like the signal strength hardly ever changes, and resolution jumps to only a few numbers.I would accept the answer that the resolution of the signal strength hardware is coarse, but when I use the TelephonyManager's getNeighboringCellInfo() method, it works much better. The signal strength readings from neighboring cells change frequently, and they have much better resolution. So, how can I get the current cell signal strength in the same way that I am getting the neighboring cell strengths? It seems odd to me that the functionality of the neighboring cells is better than the current cell.

If anyone knows how, please let me know.

Does this just mean I am in a bad cell zone? This is my reading at home and it is the top battery usage on the chart, followed by wifi at 24% (on because I am home), and phone idle at 23%.

View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to change the cell phone frequencies of a phone. I'm looking into a knock off 4G phone, but the frequencies run on 850mhz. I'm looking to switch it to Verizon's 700mhz 4G LTE network. What are the kernels or ROMs needed in order to do this? The phone has the hardware to support GSM and LTE. I may even test it out on my Droid Razr, as I've heard they have both but Verizon disabled the GSM function on it.

So here's my question. Is there a ROM out there, or a guide to making a custom one, for removing the cell and 3G functionality? I haven't even found anything for a bootloader or recovery for it, so I don't have high expectations.

I'm about to retire my trusty old Epic 4G and whats the best way to store my battery on it. I will be removing it but I'm not sure whether I should store it fully charged or half way charged. If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that you should store your battery with 50% charge for it to have some life if you ever need to use the phone months or a few years time. Storing it fully charged can pose a threat due to the battery blowing up?!?! Not sure if this is correct or not. What to do to preserve your unused batteries in your old phones?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI would like to have the cell network type displayed while I am connected to WiFi in the status bar signal cluster. Currently, once you connect to WiFi, the LTE, H, E, etc, go away; I'd like them to stay.
I can move the WiFi icon over to make room for the type icon (LTE, H, E, etc) just by deleting "android:layout_marginRight="-6.0dip"" at the end of the "id/wifi_combo" line in res/layout/signal_cluster_view.xml in SystemUI.apk.
Where is the function that turns off that cell type icon when WiFi is connected in SystemUI.apk? I know the system can detect the type of network whilst WiFi is connected, it's just a matter for forcing that icon to stay displayed.
I am trying this on Cyanogenmod 11.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased this Tablet cum Phone Device (Asus Fonepad) in India. I found this device very impressive with decent battery backup along with great standby time. Everything was allright. In morning I found heavy battery draining during standby.
Next day I uninstalled that Black market application and Uninstalled Exdialer with all downloaded themes. I got full signals and everything was working fine. But the Battery Drain in standby remain same. I observed the situation till next two days. I searched to forums and did following things:
1. I made factory reset to my fonepad. which was haviing 4.1.2 Android after updating through OTA. Which remains same after Reset.
2. I didnt install any other applation
3. I turned of all battery comsuming services like GPS/ Location reporting/ Data/ Wifi/ Uninstalled Google Play Service Updates etc
4. Installed Wakelock detector, Better Battery Stats etc All are showing that phone goes in deep sleep no prblem but Wakelock detector show that Cell Radio wakes up so much time when phone is on sleep mode. Default Battery monitor of Android Showing "Mobile Data" as most battery comsumer.
One thing I want to mention here the device is supportive to mini sim only. I was not having mini sim so I went to market and mobile shop keeper cutted my Sim to adjust into that slot and it woked. I was using same sim from Day first. It's Vodafone INDIA.
I have not rooted nor flashed anything from my fonepad. I am reached to the conclusion that There is some problem with Exdialer installation and applying new/old theme combination to it which made me device with no signal. And now The Cell Radio has been changed which is attempting to achive something in standby mode. Which is causing heavy battery Drain. Standby time is reduced to almost 15-16 Hrous
I've ported a Hero ROM to a HTC Magic. Here's my problem:
Problem: There's a great battery drain when you're connected to the network (no data but just mobile network for calls/SMS)
Ported ROM: Sandwich Deluxe 4.0 .
Original ROM: Hero ROM
Kernel: carz-2.6.34.4 (fast and stable)
The mobile network drains battery.I'm not in a low signal-area. Everybody who uses the ROM has a drain.I'm using a 2.x.x instead of a 3.0 kernel for an ICS ROM, can it be that this mismatch creates the drain? The phone displays a singal strength of 0dBm 97 asu. (Not normal?)
What doesn't cause the problem? In airplane mode there is no drain at all. So it is unlikely that some apps causes the drain.Wifi, GPS, sync, ... are all disabled.
What do you expect from xdamembers?
- Confirmation if the kernel is the issue of the drain. If not, I would like to know which files (in ROM) are responsible for network signal.
I'm looking for an app/tweak that allows all the info such as my text messages, email, etc to appear on the lockscreen without having to use the drop down gesture? Basically kind of like having the Notification Center on iPhone available right when I click on the power button of my phone. Or if you guys are familiar with LockInfo, which is a Cydia app for iPhone, I'd like to find an app that does exactly what LockInfo does:

Is there a way i can backup my user app info like what level i'm at in a game without being rooted, i think thats the only thing android needs to be a perfect OS... link your apps to your gmail and it wouldn't matter what phone or carrier you get/gotto your app info is there...

I really like many of the music apps out there for Android, but would love to have one that can announce track info as the song starts. If would grab the title, artist, etc (configurable) and use the text to speech component to speak it. This way you can keep your device tucked away and still know what track you are listening to.
