I want to be able to use/view the video's I record with my phone on my computer. (open from an email or use in window's movie maker)I have a new computer with Windows seven at work and a Vista laptop at home. I can send the video to myself and try to open in from my email or tether to the computer and transfer the file manually. Either way I can't open with windows media player. Video's taken with default "Camcorder" app on a myTough 3G running Android 1.6.I know it has something to do with the codec's the phone uses but wonder why they wouldn't use codec's that are compatible with the most commonly used pc's?Is there any way around this? Some kind of converter for the computer or for the phone? Is there another camcorder app that can record video with a different codec or is it phone hardware specific? So far have been able to use these forum's to sort out most of my Android problems but I'm stumped on this one. It doesn't seem like it should be this hard to do. Should be more user friendly.

I am looking to sync up all of my devices (go android for phone and tablet, or apple for phone and tablet).
The thing I like most about the apple stuff is the Itunes movie/book store.
Basically I can buy movies and put them on my tablet/pc/iphone (with the future cloud streaming) from the Itunes store...Granted the stupid Ipad doesnt have a way to do TV out so I heard.
I want to stick with Android since I like the OS and I like the open nature of the software. However, there is no one place that I can go to get all my Media like the Itunes store. This is especially true for Movies/TV shows. It would be nice to have all of my movies on either a cloud or on my tablet so that when I travel, I can watch them or link them to a TV.
I know right now I can rip my DVDs to MP4 format, but I like just downloading a movie when I want to. I dont want to have to go to 5 different places to find what I wanted to see.
Basically does anyone know if Google is planning on making some sort of integrated market that has TVshows/Movies/Movie Rentals/Ebooks?

I've been having a few issues with movie playback, a lot of my stuff (100+ dvd encodes) was encoded when I had my iPhone(s) so uses the h.264 codec 640x320 (ish) resolution, the problem I'm having is that large movie files i.e. 2GB and above don't play, yes I have a few at over 2GB - uber long movies.. Is there a size limit in force here?? Android or HTC based??

First off, I have an HTC Eris running KaosFroyo v36. So I decided I was going to encode a movie to Mp4 (from a DVD I own) to put on my phone so I have something to watch at work. To do my encoding, I used Any Video Converter with the following parameters.
Video
Picture size: 480x208
Codec: x264
FPS: 24
Bitrate: 380
Audio
Codec: AAC
Sample: 44.1
Bitrate: 160
This was my first time playing any video on my phone, and when I got the movie on there, I was very happy to see how well the Eris played. The sound stayed in sync even after navigating and there were no hiccups or delays in playback at all. And then I got about 3/4 of the way through the movie. At around this time, the video freezes on one frame, but the audio continues to play. The phone wasn't locked up or anything, the video just stopped. The navigation bar also moved all the way to the beginning. I've seen this happen before in some movies on other players/software (minus the navbar moving back) and found that navigating just ahead of the offending point will usually allow me to get through the rest of the movie........

I have Avatar on my Epic 4G but I haven't been able to figure out how to get the subtitles to work. I created a new folder in my file manager, named it "subtitles" and added the .srt subtitle file for avatar but I get nothing. Any ideas?

I didn't know how to word this, but, I have loaded several movies on my Hero, but when using the slideshow, it shows the start of each movie, and I have no clue what the movie is? On my last phone, at least the title was under the video, or the picture was of the moive with the name on it, any ideas?

In a nut shell, when the app is loaded, it will play a short movie (maybe a few seconds at most @ 12-24fps). I will then have 2 buttons displayed on the screen, and depending on what button is pressed, it I will play another short movie (5-10 seconds). While waiting for the user to make a decision, the movie will be looping.
The movie source is stop-motion photography so it's already chopped up into frames. My question here is if I should use a Frame Animation technique, or if I should use a Movie player for this. All in all perhaps there's less than 100 still frames that make up the stop-motion. I was going to go the Frame Animation route, but I wasn't sure if having so many individual frames would kill the app so I thought I'd post here to see if anyone had any insight.

I think I need a step by step. So I ripped Avatar from a dvd using dvdfab. I chose main movie and Dvd9. This gave me a 7 gig file. I used handbrake to convert to mp4 at 480 x 272 or something on ipod legacy setting. When I put that file on the phone, it is 2 gigs. Does that seem too big? How can I compress this without a huge loss in quality? It plays perfect right now.

I bought my Captivate and am a Android convert from Iphone and many Windows Mobile devices. So far I like the phone and the app store however am annoyed I can't get outside android programs to load.I have seen the sticky on this but am leery to attempt it.In the meantime I have some questions.
1. Is there a regular way most people use to move their movie files over to this phone? I tried doubleTwist, however I have selected just one folder and it grabs everything in all media folders and I have deselected looking at Windows Media Player and Itunes so this is causing me much frustration. Is there an easier way?
2.I just realized that the phone doesn't utilize an alarm clock feature. I know this is very minor, I am assuming there is an app for that.
3.Any advice an a good ebook reader for this phone?
I know I have more, but I'll stop here for now. The syncing part is just driving me nuts!

I have successfully implemented the Media Player for my apps, but when I tried to use some of the callback methods I ran into a problem. What I'm trying to do is use Media Player in a reusable (library) class. This MediaPlayer is created by passing the Activity Context to it's constructor.I then use getApplicationContext to avoid any potential memory leaks. This works well and I'm quite happy with it.My problem is trying to use callbacks. When I implement MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener in my class.I believe this is due to the class itself not being an Activity. When I implemented the callbacks in a separate test project, the mp.prepare () works fine. I cannot use a passed context to my library class, as that would require the Activity to implement the listener and not my library class. How can I create a library class that creates/uses MediaPlayer and it's callbacks without making it extend Activity? Is this not possible?

How to share media between users in Android 4.2.2 (Nexus 10)? I mean sharing a large number of photos and movies, something without online connection (no dropbox/drive). A solution without duplicating the files in each account is highly preferred.
I know /sdcard/Android/obb folder is shared, I used it to transfer large files between the accounts. But it is not recognized by Media Scanner / Gallery. Links are not working for me (I tried both - symbolic and hard link, ln -s reports Function not implemented, ln alone Operation not permitted. Not mentioning that root shell doesn't see the content of obb (strange)). Folder sync seems not to work either (even though it states 4.2.2 is supported).

My goal was to find an android app similar to PC Internet Download Manager.I have found some good apps that can capture and download streaming media files from the browser. Some of them require Adobe Flash Player. These apps can download flv, mp3, mp4, etcThe apps in this list has their own integrated browser to be able to capture media files while streaming.
Here is the list:
-Media Grabber - Good but has little features.
-AVD Download Video Downloader - Great but can't capture every files.
-Flash Browser - It's in public beta, so it won't work for all devices, mine included.
-Vget - It can only download flash videos and not stream.
Are there any other similar apps that you know? Plugins? Other methods to download streaming files?

I'm looking to make a large library of files available through an app. (nearly a 3gb folder and growing.
User would download the APP and then have access to an ever growing library of files they can then choose to download whatever they want from it.
Can this be done by a simple RSS reader?
I don't want the files available to anyone without the app installed. It would only be a text list of the files, clickable to download.

I want to upload my music library or access the files directly from the computer from anywhere, including my phone for free. I have done some searching around and have only found Posner.com, but it doesn't let you play an entire playlist from your phone, only a single song at a time. Anybody have any ideas? Also, I hear people talking about gmote when I look around, but isn't that a remote control? Not a way to play the music on the phone, please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a Samsung Galaxy I7500 using android 1.5. I extended my phone with a 16GB microSD. I copied a big music collection (around 800 files) into a folder on this SD. Now the problem is that the music player can't find all the files.
I know that there are several threads about android not finding music. The answers are usually that the library hasn't yet been updated or that the ID3 tags are not correct.
I have checked both.
Btw. I can play the files using ASTRO.
In my opinion it seems as if android can't build up a library with too many entries. If I rename the files or put them into different folders, songs disappear and reappear quite randomly.
Do you have any solutions? Is there a music player which doesn't use the native music players index of files?
