View 5 Replies View RelatedWhenever I leave my home Wi-Fi hotspot, my phone seems to pop up with a notification, asking me if I want to go in to roaming mode (or something along those lines - I can't remember the exact phrase and I can't recreate the notification without leaving the house). I've only noticed this when I've come to pull the phone out of my pocket. I tell it to just carry on using my mobile network for data connectivity.
When I return home, instead of returning to the Wi-Fi network, it carries on using my mobile network for data connectivity.
How do I get the phone to automatically switch to using my mobile network for data when I'm not in my hotspot and then to automatically switch back to it when I am in the hotspot? It's driving me mental at the moment, and there doesn't appear to be anything obvious in the phone or any documentation!
What do I need to do for network connections to be implemented automatically?
How is Sprint going to deal with the hotspot charge once it becomes native to the OS?

I mistyped my passcode, and ever since it wont allow me inside and access my notes. i tried searching through individual folders, just in case the notes are in plain text. As per other xda user, i checked in the folder [url]...., still found nothing.
I terribly need the information. So I'm thinking of breaking the app and try by passing the passcode/password check. i know this puts a moral question. But based on my situation I'm convincing myself saying its ok, as it is no longer supported!!! and nobody will be impacted, expect myself and of course I need the data.
I have little experience in trying to look through software/apps and tweak them for my necessity, with little success. Now I'm not even sure if this break-in is possible. I'm totally out of date with respect to these kind of stuff.
Note: I use Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300), rooted, ver 4.1.2.
Is it possible to connect the phone to a router to create a wireless hotspot? Would/could this give better coverage than simply using the phone as the hotspot? I currently have a Rezound, and have yet to root so I am stuck with tethering, for now.

Is there something else I need to do or an app I need to download to get the hot spot functionality working correctly?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 4G Sonic T-mobile hotspot (hockey puck type of device) working fine tethered to my Desktop, working via Wifi to my laptop and my iPad. No issues there. I also have an original Moto Droid on the VZW network, rooted, but no mods.
The Droid connects via Wifi to my Home Network (a Linksys Wifi Router), and other WiFi networks when I'm on the road. However I can't get it to connect to the T-Mobile 4G Hotspot. I know that's crazy, thinking I might get 4g internet speed out of an old original Droid, but technically it should work right?
Basically the Droid sees the hotspot, connects for a split second then gets dropped/disconnected. Or it's a settings issue and despite trying a million different settings.
I'm wondering if there's something in either device, or perhaps both, that recognizes one is a VZW device, the other a T-Mobile device, and it keeps me from making the connection. what might be keeping these two devices from connecting?
I have a rooted Verizon S4 running 4.3, build number JSS15J.I545VRUEMK2. This is a phone provided to me by work, so I have no control over the billing/ tethering abilities..I have searched to no avail on how to create a hotspot with this 4.3 build.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhat I'd like to be able to do is:
if I'm connected to a specific wifi AP (my prepaid hotspot),
1) turn off autoupdates from the Google Play app
2) turn off data for all apps except the foreground app
3) or let me decided which apps I want to allow to transfer data when connecting via that hotspot
This is to minimize costs associated with using that prepaid hotspot, but the same concept could apply for people who have limited data bandwidth per month.I'm using Android 4.1 on a Samsung S3 if it matters.
I"ve heard that you can root the Droid 2 to enable to use it as a WiFi hot spot. What steps I have to take in order to do this? I'm somewhat computer savvy, have written software in Visual Basic, C++ and a few other languages.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a chromecast and I'm trying to figure out if I can get my GNexus to host the hotspot and be the chromecast remote.
In more detail:
I do not have internet from a cable/satellite company. The only internet connection I have is through my cellphone hotspot.
Chromecast will be connected to the internet through my cellphone hotspot (SSID: AndroidAP).
When my cellphone has the hotspot running it does not show up on its own network (AndroidAP).
I need the phone to show up on the network (AndroidAP) so that I can see the chromcast and use the phone as a remote.
Is this even possible?
Why can't I connect to Hotspot Shield on Cyanogenmod 11(Xperia P)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm getting a galaxy s3 very soon and I'm thinking about getting a nexus 7 with it.But as you know, nexus 7 doesn't have 3G so my only option to access network on it when there's no wifi network available is to use my future s3 as a wifi hotspot. So my questions are:
1-Is data consumption when using the phone as a wifi hotspot the same as if I'm normally using 3G on the phone itself ?
2-How long can an android(specifically the S3 if it matters much) act as a wifi hotspot before the battery runs out ?
I want to use my phone as a wifi hotspot, but I would like my phone to allow access to only some ip adresses (my mail server actually).
This way if my PC try to go to another site (say "windows update" site) the phone will not forward its http request, thus limiting data consumption.
Is there an app on the market that does it ?
I have a Samsung Galaxy 3. I'll be outside where there is no wifi in a few days. But it's important for me to do working and communicating with my laptop there. How to make my phone a hotspot?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung S3 with VirginMobile. I know in the past several years ago, you have to root the phone in order to make your phone into a WiFi Hotspot.
I just wondering if this is still true? Can I make my phone into a WiFi Hotspot without rooting the phone? If so, how can I do it?
The reason I ask, I am planning to get an Android tablet. I am going to end up getting a off brand Android tablet.
I currently have an individual Verizon plan with 450 minutes, unlimited data and unlimited hotspot. I would like to keep the unlimited hotspot and move it from my phone to a jetpack.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi've been using the hotspot feature to deliver my carrier internet connection to my other devices at times when i'm not at home with the normal internet (often) sometimes i wish some of devices to not be able to temporarily connect, so i move them into the blacklist for a while; and while the feature to whitelist, blacklist and set user connection limit is cool, it has one major problem with it- there's only mac address labeling
it is not a problem if you fiddle with one device, but once you get more than 2 in the whitelist it's really impossible to remember all the mac addresses of all the devices... is there a way to label these devices?
or is there some app that could replace this native whitelist functionality but introduce labels? i am running 4.0.3 atm

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter reading a great post in the forum I setup my HTC Inspire 4G phone to teather...it works great! I followed the same steps on my fiancee's Inspire 4G and it didn't work so well. When I click the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot box in Settings > Wireless & Networks it turns on the Wi-Fi...and it is detectable by other devices...but then it immediately and automatically turns off.
We have the same phone purchased on the same day and I used the same Access Point Name settings as detailed in the excellent Android Forum thread. I even deleted and re-created the Access Point to make sure I didn't mistype anything but the same Portable Wi-Fi turns on then immediately turns off problem exists.
