When I turn on my portable wifi hotspot in my LG Optimus 4x HD, and connect my other android phone on it, it connects but it cannot browse. But when I turn on the hotspot app of my other android phone (with the same sim card i used in my 4X) and connect my Optimus 4x, it connects and can browse the net. Ive tried some tethering apps but the same result.

After reading a great post in the forum I setup my HTC Inspire 4G phone to teather...it works great! I followed the same steps on my fiancee's Inspire 4G and it didn't work so well. When I click the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot box in Settings > Wireless & Networks it turns on the Wi-Fi...and it is detectable by other devices...but then it immediately and automatically turns off.
We have the same phone purchased on the same day and I used the same Access Point Name settings as detailed in the excellent Android Forum thread. I even deleted and re-created the Access Point to make sure I didn't mistype anything but the same Portable Wi-Fi turns on then immediately turns off problem exists.

Just wondering I have the above phone, and ever since I bought it, I cant seem to configure my personal hotspot SSID and passcode, without it defaulting back to AndroidAP and default passcode I enter in my desired SSID and passode, click save, and if I go to conect on laptop it will come up ok, but only that one time. If I literally go straight back into the configuration of wifi hotspot, it has defaulted back to AndroidAP
When this feature comes out in the update, will it be free to use and will it use up any of my internet allowance when on o2?

but there is no internet connection to the phone. Data 3G works perfectly - regular internet works perfectly - Orange UK.
Can you tell me (viz. those of you with a working hotspot!), can you still use your browser when the hotspot is active. Just turning the hotspot on on my desire cuts the (mobile data) internet connection with the browser, and anything else!
In fact even after turning off the hotspot I have to toggle mobile data on/off & toggle APN's to get mob. data back.
Also which Orange APN's/usernames/passwords do you have success with & which not?
I have tried all the posted solutions & even HTC technical!
Any bright ideas anyone?
I think my last resort is to de-brand (unlocked Tmob used on Orange sim) I reckon!

I've had an LG Optimus S phone for a month, that I run almost exclusively on wifi (I have a pay-as-you-go plan for data, so I've turned 3G off so I only use it when I need it). Often at home the wifi turns off when the phone is sleeping... I'll turn on the phone to check something, but then I have to manually click the wifi back on and wait for it.

it is possible to send 3g from your android phone to your PC, without others can see it? I dont want it to be broadcast in the public, and i cant do a direct connection with a datacord. So is there a way to share your 3g connection with your computer, without public broadcast and datacord/wires?

1) turn off autoupdates from the Google Play app
2) turn off data for all apps except the foreground app
3) or let me decided which apps I want to allow to transfer data when connecting via that hotspot
This is to minimize costs associated with using that prepaid hotspot, but the same concept could apply for people who have limited data bandwidth per month.I'm using Android 4.1 on a Samsung S3 if it matters.

1-Is data consumption when using the phone as a wifi hotspot the same as if I'm normally using 3G on the phone itself ?

I want to use my phone as a wifi hotspot, but I would like my phone to allow access to only some ip adresses (my mail server actually).

After playing on it for awhile, I wanted to use it as a wifi hotspot so I downloaded quicksetting app but wifi hotspot setting didn't work. My Rise is rooted and using stock ROM. I was be able to use my LG Optimus V (rooted and IHO rom) as a wifi hotspot this way but it isn't working for my Rise.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi've been using the hotspot feature to deliver my carrier internet connection to my other devices at times when i'm not at home with the normal internet (often) sometimes i wish some of devices to not be able to temporarily connect, so i move them into the blacklist for a while; and while the feature to whitelist, blacklist and set user connection limit is cool, it has one major problem with it- there's only mac address labeling
it is not a problem if you fiddle with one device, but once you get more than 2 in the whitelist it's really impossible to remember all the mac addresses of all the devices... is there a way to label these devices?
or is there some app that could replace this native whitelist functionality but introduce labels? i am running 4.0.3 atm

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had a Galaxy Tab for 2 years, and used it, very successfully, as a wifi hotspot from May until July this year, when my laptop was suddenly not able to connect to the internet via the hotspot. It connected just fine to the Tab, and has no problems on my home wifi. The Tab was still able to connect to the internet normally, with no apparent problems.
I fiddled about a bit and thought perhaps it was a hardware problem, so bought a seconhand Nexus S. That has been working fine until yesterday, when the exact same thing has happened - the laptop can connect fine to the Nexus, but says there is no internet connection. The Nexus itself is connecting just fine.

I am looking for a way to automate my Android phone connecting to an SSH server when the phone connects to an unsecured wifi network. My understanding is that this is adequate to keep my traffic from being sniffed by DroidSheep (Android), FireSheep (Windows), or other packet sniffers.

- if yes: how do I trigger the launch of the SSHTunnel when the trigger event (connection to unsecured wifi network) occurs?

I rooted my Samsung Conquer 4g on the Sprint network. I downloaded Wifi tether App (had to go to a website on my computer, then use the QR scanner app on my phone to download the app since Sprint won't allow it on the Android market place.) So my problem is now that my laptop and Ipod touch can see the wifi hot spot and connect to it just fine BUT my Honeycomb Acer Iconia Tablet A100 can't find the SSID wifi connection. It shows all other connections except for my wifi hotspot. why it won't show up on my tablet?

WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got my HTC Desire today, and have been learning how it works etc, but I just tried to do a google search, use youtube and sign into facebook using the facebook app and widget, and nothing will work. I can use FriendStream fine.. I updated my facebook status with it and it's showing updates as they happen. I'm using my home wifi and the phone says it's connected with signal strength 'good'. Can anyone explain what the problem might be? I haven't tried 3g yet, if that matters at all. (not entirely sure how I'd switch to it for testing purposes other than going outside out of wifi range)
