View 6 RepliesMy current GS3 apparently had water damage, and a new one is coming from the insurance tomorrow. I figured that since the warranty is up and the insurance won't replace it again, I may as well finally root and flash a custom rom. From my poking around the internet, I like CyanogenMod 10.1. I am on AT&T.
I've only attempted a root once before with this current phone, which I think worked, but I abandoned the project months ago and don't remember. In any case, besides that, I've never rooted or flashed a rom before.
After further poking around on the internet, these are the sources I'm planning on using to successfully root and rom:
Rooting: How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S3 " XDA Developer TV " xda-developers
And for the ROM, I'm going to follow this video:
I understand that after rooting, I have to create a backup (using that Titan Backup app in the video I think?" and i am going to use Goo Manager to download the ROM and gapps. I saw another video that had me move files from the computer to my phone, but they didn't do any backing up, and apparently that's necessary.
What does it mean to "trip a flash counter"? And what is a toolkit, and do I need it?
Last month I follow the steps in thread of LG P500 to install Custom Recovery but it let my LG P698 become brick. I claim to LG Service and get a replacement but keep to search solution. Today I get one thread here URL....I download and follow each steps carefully and now my P698 has install CWM Recovery successfully and no more brick.

I flashed the official nightly build of CyanogenMod on my Samsung Galaxy Ace.
The root explorer just closes when I try to open it. So I removed it, and installed it via an apk, same issue.
And when I download it from the market, it says it's "Purchased", but when I try to download it, it gives me a 403 error.

I've tried just about most of the common methods I've found so far, and I've gotten nothing.
The only thing I can think of is the fact that the Arc is suspiciously similar to the Nexus 7, so can look into root and see if a port can be made for the Arc.
I have been Using Sony Xperia Phones and rooting & installing CWM on those phones is fairly very easy (unlocking bootloader and just installing a Kernel Using Flashtool which comes with CWM and root) ...... However, i recently bought this phone:

Its running on Jelly Bean 4.2.1 and has Quad Core MTK 6589 chipset ...
So I followed the tutorial found here: Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G: How to root on Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread and install ClockworkMod Recovery
I did option #1 and set up my device, and the program said the phone was set up. Now every time I turn my phone on a boot screen comes up with a yellow triangle with a yellow ! in the middle.
I can't go the the special boot (where you hold up, down, and power) and I can't do anything at all.
How can I reset my phone?

I am able to boot into the Stock Recovery mode (Volume + and power button) but unable to install CWM(tried several versions for U8510), SU, Custom ROM etc cuz it says signature verification failed even though I tried cmw zip files which were signed.
I tried going into download mode by pressing Volume - and power button that didn't work too. Even though the Huawei symbol came up I couldn't root the device using
P.S: I couldn't find any of the latest ROMs for this device too!

I bought the new gionee elife s5.5 Unfortunately it has no play store installed and adding the apk and running it after installation always results in a forced close.
How to root the phone? Will Vroot also work (it is supposed to work on the elife e7 which has the same custom rom, amigo 2.0, I think).
Really struggling because many dialogs are in Chinese although I set the language to english...
Btw. one chinese guy told me the phone can be rooted using a chinese application named 大师 - however I have no clue where to even start with this...
I Have created a gamelayout for my ps2 usb adapter controller, the problem is that it doesn't get detected in Android, it's detected under linux (I attach some images) and the .kl file -It's inside "Vendor_12bd_Product_e002.zip" yes it's codified in UNIX, not MAC or DOS-.I followed the tutorial from here.
I don't know if this has to anything but my tablet is a chinese Pipo S1 dual core Rockhip 1.6ghz gpu mali 400 with the stock software -Jellybean 4.1.1-.As I stated, the controller gets detected, but the problem is that I want it to get detected as it should -Since it has plug for 2 usb controllers- in "Android" not in "Linux", hence, the .kl I used is not being detected and doesn't apply my mapping.
PS: I already did the changes for r w r r, I used the terminal too -command ls -l /system/usr/keylayout- (image attached) Do I need to declare this new Keylayout somewhere?
Edit: The new configuration does get dettected though, the device isn't is because the modules are lacking due to the kernel source is not released and haven't compiled the .ko for generic gamepads
So my wife got a tablet for a specific purpose which is to use it as a portable gallery showing pictures and videos. She wants files to be located on device so no connection needed to view. She wants a custom background screen and then different buttons for each Gallery category. User opens per normal and then can scroll through pictures. If video then thumbnails/list of available videos for user to choose from.
New to Android and not sure how to go about getting this done.
I was wondering if it is in some how possible to upgrade my GT-I9070 from gingerbread 2.3.6 to Kitkat or other custumized rom without having to use odin.
I have a problem with connecting my phone to the my pc, my laptop won't regonize it, I think is a hardware problem.
I have been cooking a customized ICS ROM using dsixda's kitchen and all I done was deodex the ROM and add some other stuff like bash, nano etc. I then built and signed it. When I attempt to flash it tells me there is an error in the .zip file and displays (status 0). I am guessing I have done something wrong when building the ROM in dsixda's kitchen.
What a status 0 error means in CWM and how I can fix it?
To install jager's froyo rom does my Incredible need root? Or can I simply install it. According to what I have encountered I do not have sufficient permissions to run the "update.zip" for the rom. Can anyone help?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Droid Incredible on the way and it should be here in about 2 weeks *crosses fingers*.I want to get all the software I will need downloaded ahead of time, and I am confused about the order in which to do things.I have previously rooted and installed roms on my wife's Motorola Droid so I am somewhat familiar with the process. My plan is to have a rooted and OTA updated Incredible running 2.1 until there are 2.2 roms that function well with the camera. What I need to know is what order to install things. Do I install the leaked OTA update and then root?Is the OTA update officially out yet, and if so should I just wait for that to download and install before rooting?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Incredible, so not familiar with Eris, but I want to root my wife's phone and install XtrSense 4.1, as it seems to be a fast and stable ROM with no tweaks needed.
So, here are the steps:
1) One click root on XDA, install the rootme.zip file, reboot and should be rooted.
2) Run a nandroid backup
3) copy Xtr ROM to root of SD, wipe, and flash via "install from zip"
Is there anything I am missing, seems straightforward. The one step that confused me is this:
Wipe SD:ext partition
What does that step do?
My wife has an Eris, and the battery life isn't even 12 hours lately. I'd like to root her Eris and install a kernel to allow it to run slower while in standby. I searched this forum, and didn't see many if any threads dedicated to only kernels. Am I missing something? I saw the guide to rooting, and installing new roms, I want to leave everything in tact, just allow underclocking.

Example: If I installed Myn's, can I choose a different wallpaper?
So I'm not quite ready to root yet but wanted to do some more custimization to my phone. I read in another forum about being able to change the boot animation without root. It worked so after reading about some of you all that don't like the sprint 4g boot animation I figured I'd share.
First, you need to install android SDK. Bill did a good guide to installing it: http://androidforums.com/tips-tricks-evo-4g/90418-how-install-android-sdk.html.
When I was installing the sdk I had a lot of trouble with installing the driver for the EVO for whatever reason. Eventually this is what worked for me:
dc50 Hideaway: ADB Driver for HTC Evo 4G
Once you get SDK installed find a new boot animation. There are a few here: [url]
The boot animation should be a zip file named "bootanimation". Put this file in the tools folder of the sdk.
Open up command prompt (Start>Run>type "cmd"). In command prompt you need to get to the sdk tools folder. To do this I typed in "cd C:Documents and SettingsUserDesktopandroid-sdk-windows ools" where "User"=you user name. This may be different depending on your version of windows and where you unpacked sdk.
Now from here you can check to make sure your device is connected by typing in "adb devices". If you get a line that says "List of Devices Attached" and then a line with some numbers and letters followed by "device" you are conneceted. If not go back a try reinstalling Android SDK.
Now with the bootanimation.zip file in the tools folder and command prompt pointing to the tools folder type "adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local". Make sure you put the spaces in or it won't work.
Restart your phone and you should see the new boot animation instead of the Sprint 4G one.
Been wanting to install 2.2 on my Droid if somebody can answer my questions:
What are the steps I need to go through to install a custom ROM (root, backup, etc.)?
What is the best 2.2 ROM out right now for the Droid?
