General :: App For Report Monitoring (DROID X / 2.3.4)
Mar 29, 2012
I need an APP for REMOTE MONIOTRING (DROID X , 2.3.4)
Any apps out there that will allow me to access or listen to my phones microphone either via another cell phone or via the web?
Preferably an app that runs in stealth mode. Any additional features would just be a plus but aren't necessary.

I am thinking about getting a mobile broadband account for my tablet, but before I do I'd like to monitor my usage. Is there an app that keeps track of this? I'd like to monitor all my wifi data usage before picking a plan.

I don't need all the extra features some of the nicer paid ones have. Just looking to monitor sms. Done a lot of searching with mixed results, most stuff is pretty old.

I'm playing around with Droidsheep and after I press "Start" it sais running.
Now i'm surfing around on my Laptop and is grabs one or two sites I'm surfing to, but then it stops monitoring.
If I stop and start the service, then it's the same again.
Using Samsung Galaxy S with ICS and router is Fritz!Box 7270.

So after having my phone for nearly a year (Razr Maxx) I'm starting to have extremely poor battery life. For example, this morning I left my house at 7:00 at 100%. Spent maybe 20 minutes looking at stuff on my phone, browsing a couple of webpages. Then spent about 20 minutes reading a book and listening to music. Now at 9:00am I'm at 70%.
I suspect that there is something that isn't working right on my phone... that I have some program (possibly malware) that is chewing up data or processor time or something. Any utility that will monitor what's going on and is able to report what programs are accessing data and processor power.

I have an Atrix and I'm wondering are there any apps/Widgets that will show frequency of a core (doesn't have to show both as my second core is usually offline) in real time and that wont just stop functioning after an Hour or so.

What app would allow me to do this? I installed spare parts and it just tells me how many times i have used things, not the % of the battery they are draining.

For a Computer Science Information Warfare class a few years ago I wrote a python script that ran on libpcap promiscuous packet capture files to parse out facebook chat traffic (earlang tuples passed in clear text), and thought an interesting project would be to port the program to Android.
I would like to rewrite it in Java but can't find any information about packet capturing directly on the handset.

I am recently doing a graduate research on the accelerometer in mobile devices. Accelerometer is a MEMs device built in almost every smart phone nowadays. I am interested in finding what information does the hardware accelerometer report that the software knows the raw values X, Y, Z to detect the orientation in which the phone is held?

The GMail-App on my Xoom and my Nexus S (both with Android 4.0.3) is driving me crazy. In former times I could easily report mails as no spam.
That doesn't work anymore. Instead I guess it should be possible to mark the mails and label them as "Inbox". But that doesn't work, either. With some luck, it works with 1 or 2 mails, but the rest stays in SPAM, even though at first they disappear from the spam-folder.
Isn't there a way to do that? Why is there no real option to mark the mails as no spam?

I have recently switched from AT&T to Verizon, is there any app for Galaxy Nexus (ICS) that will run in the background and watch the coverage and keep track it of it (preferably including GPS location) so I can check how well the service is in the areas where I mostly travel?

I have an original Nexus 7 running Android 4.3. I just learned about the "Take bug report" and "Power menu bug report" method to capture screen shots and logs. Unfortunately, they don't seem to work for me.
I'm logged on with my normal Google account. When I use either method, I get the "Take bug report" popup. When I tap on Report, the popup goes away and then nothing happens - no email - nothing. I've seen a couple of other reports of this happening.

I found a typo on the guide section at developer.android.com, but I can't find a link/email to report the typo to.
I don't want to report it on the Android Developers Google group, as its a typo and not a technical question.
Anyone have an email address or link I can use to report typos?

in reading thru the forums i notice that most users, when discussing their battery, are using some monitor which reveals percentage of battery juice remaining. i find the stock monitor in the status bar to be insufficient. what apps are you guys using that give you the best reflection of battery %/time remaining, indicate what's been using the battery, and most importantly do not eat up battery like a hog and make it not worth using?

I have systempanel installed. Where it shows your current CPU Clock speed, mine is ranging anywhere from 600 - 900MHz at any given time. Is this normal? My phone sleeps just fine, but does this mean that when my phone is awake at any given time, my CPU is still being pushed that hard? I hope someone can clarify this for me, and maybe post what theirs is too.

Mobile Nanny monitoring software now available in the Android Market | Android Central But i dont need logs, or a $49 annual bill. Id like the app to track;
Calls (how many calls i made per day/week/month)
TXT (how many SMS/MMS i send per day/week/month)
APPs (if possible, how many apps were used per day/week/month)
Emails (how many emails sent/rec'd over day/week/month)
etc
Im a numbers freak, id love to have this info to study how often i use my phone, where the usage is, and compare it to other people if possible.

Have you found any app to monitor data usage app by app? I really need something to find out which app is transmitting, because since I installed Froyo, I'm having ridiculous amounts of data downloaded to the phone, but I don't know where it's all going.

In an effort to keep my battery from draining from dodgy apps, yesterday I installed a CPU and battery monitor called "Mini Info". After getting my DHD and going on an app installing rampage my battery life dropped to about 6 hours, and I think it was the monitor!
So I've un-installed I'm looking for some system tools that won't sap my battery life.
Can anyone suggest to me:
Battery Monitor
CPU monitor (that displays what processes are killing my CPU)
Task killer (using ATK)
A widget I can use to easily turn bluetooth/wireless/GPS etc that includes 3G as well...
Also... someone mentioned before an app that changes your settings based on your location (looks at location with GPS). Can anyone tell me what this is called and if it saves more battery than it uses?

With all of the questions and threads regarding battery usage, life and monitoring, I thought this might be a good time to share my thoughts of what has helped me *deal* with this issue.
I want to preface this by saying that:
-Yes, the stock battery supplied with our phones is probably inadequate.
-Yes, having to buy a better battery after purchasing a "Tier One Phone" sucks.
-Yes, usage is subjective and dynamic and one persons heavy usage is another persons light usage.
-No, this will not address extremely short battery life (other problems are causing that)
-No, this will not account for the phone seemingly giving a false 100% indication.
-No, this will not help anything but your psyche
That said, I think we (myself included and maybe the most guilty) are putting too much emphasis on what our battery widgets and indicators are telling us. The blessing/curse of our phones is that they report battery life in 1% increments which is great for keeping accurate battery life information, but its not great for our sanity. Think about that logically for a moment!
Here is my experiment for anyone who obsesses over battery life but can make it through a day with no worries of their battery dying!
1) Next time you fully charge your battery, after you remove it from the charger, keep an eye on the widget as it drops down to between 95% - 90% and then take notice of your default battery indicator. It will still look fully charged! Do this for a day or two if you want!
2) When you are satisfied that what I'm telling you is reality, uninstall your battery monitoring widget or app and just go about your day as usual for about a week.
I am willing to bet that those of you like me, who actually have respectable battery life but still obsess over it, will not go back to what I call "percentile battery monitoring". Of course their will be exceptions as some people just need that number, but I really believe this may help some people get over their battery monitoring obsession!

i bought the full version of systempanel last night, because i installed setcpu and tasker over the weekend and started overclocking - i wanted to try the monitoring service and try to see if there was a drastic effect on my battery... well, the battery DEFINITELY seems to be draining faster than it did yesterday, and the phone seemed to be very choppy when switching between home screens. i disabled monitoring and it seems to be more responsive again.

So my setup at work is pretty slick. My network internet connection at work is restricted and monitored as is similar in most corporations. My technique to avoid the proxy is this...
Plug a USB wireless adapter into the PC, Run a virtual machine with the virtual network adapter pointed to the USB wireless adapter. I run wireless tether on the EVO and boom my PC stays in tact on the corporate network, so email and other network activity works and appears normal and is routed thru the corp LAN, but when I want to browse the web I jump in my VM which is routed thru my EVO.

Android user on a Nexus 4 and am a bit cautious about how much info I give Google.
I'm trying to figure out if the Google Play Music app tells Google what songs I'm listening to, or sends any other information to Google for that matter. If so, is there a way to turn that function off?
I know many people don't have an issue with letting Google know these kinds of things about them and that's fine. I'd just rather not. I didn't use Apple's genius recommendations on my iPhone either.

Here's a snip that successfully reads off, to Eclipse LogCat, the height and width of the .PNG on the SD card:
import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle;
import android.util.Log; import android.graphics.Bitmap;
import android.graphics.BitmapFactory; import android.os.Environment;
//...
Bitmap bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath() + "/sample.png");
int width = bmp.getWidth(); int height = bmp.getHeight();
int[] pix = new int[width * height]; bmp.getPixels(pix, 0, width, 0, 0, width, height);
int R, G, B; for (int y = 0; y < height; y++){ for (int x = 0; x < width; x++) { int index = y * width + x;
R = (pix[index] >> 16) & 0xff; //bitwise shifting G = (pix[index] >> 8) & 0xff; B = pix[index] & 0xff;
// [This is where I'd put it. But I can't get a red line off the editor when I do anything.] } } Log.v(TAG, width + " " + height);
I can't for the life of me use Log.v() to report the value of R or G or B. Everything I'm doing draws a red line under v or something when I try. I've tried toString() and everything.
