My Android cell phone overrides my selection of vibrate mode and notification ringing volume (becomes the permanent settings) when pressing the side volume button. I was told by customer service ALL Android phones do this due to the Android operating system. First of all it true? Is there a way to force an Android smart phone to keep the receiving call volume at its intended volume setting and keep the "NEVER" vibrate selection from switching even when pressing the volume button (just want the volume button to control the audio level during a call)? In order to use cell phones for receiving emergency calls one should be able to force a phone to keep its intended receive call notification settings and not allow them to be accidently be changed by pressing an external button.

For reasons that are explained here: Alternate Power-off Option? , I am wanting to try a couple of ideas for controlling/modifying the power on/off function of my phone (Sony Xperia Z). I never wanted to root this phone but now it seems like I'm going to have to to give me any fighting chance of getting around the issue I'm currently in.
Anyway, what I need to know is if any of the following things will be possible if I were to root my device:
--- Disable power button from waking screen or doing anything else, and preferably set a combination of keys to be what lights-up the screen, (e.g. nothing will happen on the phone unless for example the volume up key, then volume down key, then power button are pressed in that order). Then, if this is achievable, would it be possible to keep my mobile internet data turned on, while disabling people from calling me, (so that my phone won't ring at all)
--- Edit the power off function on my device so that instead of just turning off, it reboots instead. (However in saying this I would want this function hidden, as in, I want there to be a button that says 'Power Off', but instead of just powering-off, it does a reboot instead).
--- If the above is not possible, is there some sort of light 'sleep' mode that my phone can be put into so that it appears off, however can be automated to turn back on at a set time. (I understand that Android's can't be woken when shut-down because they literally are completely shut down and can't run any apps, but maybe there's a way to have it in a sort of 'sleep' mode where it can be automated to turn on at a set time?)
--- Any other option that will either A) make someone think my phone is turned off when it's actually still on, or B) allow my phone to turn back on automatically at a set time, or do a reboot instead of shut down when 'power off' is chosen.
Is there a way to extend its lenght? No matter how long a ringtone is, the device keeps playing it from beginning as long as it arrives at i.e. 15 seconds (cannot remember the exact time elapsed).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI made an account just for this as I can't figure out how to get around having only "Vibrate always, never or only in silent or not in silent" when I go to sleep, there is no easy way to turn the vibration off. It used to be with phones you could use the volume rocker to bringer down to vibrate... then one level down to completely silent except for alarms.
On this phone, if I want the phone on full silent without vibration, I cant easily switch to vibration with no sounds. It's either vibrate in silent, or vibrate with a ringer, no alternative.

View 2 Replies View Relatedtoday I found out that one can set a custom vibration pattern in the SMS Settings.Clicking that option brings up a line with "0,1200" written on it. I tried to edit it to "0,1200,1,700" and also to "0,500,0,300,0700" but it did not change the pattern at all - in both cases it just staid a long single vibration.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a list that contains elements not necessarily occupying the entire width of the screen, but even if using android:layout_width="wrap_content" on my elements, they always behave as if their width value were set to "fill_parent" instead. If I set a fixed value for the width, e.g. "100px", that value is indeed used, but I just can't get wrap_content to work.
Example simple list item:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/ android"
android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#707"> <TextView android:id="@+id/text1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:background="#770" android:text="Text1" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/text2"
android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_below="@id/ text1"
android:background="#077" android:text="Text2" /> </RelativeLayout>
What am I missing here? How do I accomplish a list item with wrap_content behaviour, i.e., where the width of each RelativeLayout is adapted to the length of the strings in the contained text views?
