The reason I ask is because when you install an anti-theft app in your phone, if the person who found/stole the phone installs a new ROM, that app is useless...

My company is developing a new device that will run on Android. I'm tasked to develop the software installation process, including application installations and updates as well as system software updates. I want to leverage as much as possible from the Android SDK. I'm looking for any advice or references to help me get started. I've downloaded the source code for Android 2.1 and have been tracing the source code path for software installations via adb. The path has taken me through adb client -> adb server -> adb deamon - > PackageManagerService -> installd.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA couple nights ago, I installed a picture frame widget from the Market. Nice black frame, just what I wanted. Since then I've been getting unsolicited Spam texts. I don't know for sure, though, if its the widget causing the trouble. The reason I suspect it now is that there was no screen detailing what types of permissions the app had when I chose to install. I didn't think anything of it at the time, since it was supposed to be basically an inert widget. Now I'm regretting my naivete. So, I've uninstalled the pic frame (and Messaging Widgets just to be safe). Anything else I should do at this point? I don't do any banking or buying on my phone, but still.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAnyone figure out a way to move the app installations to your SD card on an HTC Desire with Eclaire (2.1) installed? I'm restlessly waiting for 2.2 to be released by Telus in Canada but don't know when that's gonna be (hopefully sometime this month). As of now, I'm running out of space to install any new apps (especially big ones like, say, ANGRY BIRDS?!). I tried out the trial version and fell in love...and now if I want this app, I have to get rid of a bunch of my useful apps.
So ultimately, my question is (and I might be coming across as a newb here but hey, I just got this phone so give me a break) if there is a way to install my apps directly on the SD card? I know I could root it and install FroYo, but I just paid for a 3 year warranty with Telus that I don't want to void within 20 days of getting the phone.
If anyone has any updates on Telus getting the upgrade anytime soon, do let me know!
I am plan B and AVG security installed, both don't always work, I have pattern lock on the phone but even in pattern lock mode when i press and hold power button the phone gives me option to shutdown.
If someone steals my phone they will be able to shut it off without unlocking it since holding down power button still works. So is there a way to lock the power button from shutting off phone when the phone is in pattern unlock mode?
Is it possible to lock widgets so that changes cannot be made to the 4.2.2 lock screen?

It doesn't do that if i plug,it,in a computer usb, it doesn't,do that and charges normally. Is that a wide spread issue.

I've got the screenlock password on my Galaxy Note. It's in English layout (it was originally entered in Swipe keyboard). Then I've changed the Settings to Samsung keyboard and French layout (same latin letters) and switched off the screen. Now my pass is not working as I cannot change layout to English (the settings button on keyboard is grey). So would you recommend any solution as I don't want to wipe all the data. Is it possible to change layout to original English or reset password somehow?

I am coming from Windows Mobile 6.5 and was using PocketShield as my lock screen replacement. One thing that I am looking for in an android app is..
1. The ability to enter pin or pattern from the lock screen app while also displaying all the new features of the app. One screen to rule them all.
2. I now use WidgetLocker and it works great except that I have to enter the pattern after sliding my app. What is the point? Either I enter the pattern before I select the app from the home screen or after when sliding. I thought I was able to use the app on the slicker "outside" of pattern security.
The boy was set to release by drawing on the screen. Now after he has made a number of attempts is displayed when the message "Too many attempts to enter the sequence" and requires the google account. The problem is that you do not remember your credentials, or because you do not connect to the wifi network is not able to validate credentials.To get around this I did the following tests:
1) attempt to enter the recovery mode by pressing volume + and power
2) attempt via adb with the command "adb reboot recovery"
But every time you restart it is as if there is no recovery mode and starts normally and returns the usual screen that asks for credentials.
I also run this procedure:
> Adb-d shell
# Sqlite3 data / data / com.android.providers.settings / databases / settings.db
sqlite> update system set value = 0 where name = 'lock_pattern_autolock';
sqlite>. exit
# exit
but when I reboot I get the same error message with the introduction of the credentials.
So I bought this TV the other day and along with it came this non-branded Samsung Galaxy Y rip off. I decided to make a quick buck off it by selling it online, but the problem is, It comes with pattern lock screen and a combination that I know nothing of. I tried putting my SIM into and calling, but the furthest I got was the contacts and messages tab. How else can I reset the phone?

It's hard enough to remember and I only wish to enter it when I power on the phone. However it seems I have to enter it every time the phone locks itself. I don't want that, it's a heck of inconvenience. I just want swipe to unlock, not no pin or no pattern and only want to enter the big as password when the phone turns on. I am rooted and on the latest AT&T firmware.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor about a year I was using an HTC Desire with Android 2.2.1 Froyo. Here I was using a default pattern lock screen }by default I mean native, not any app from Market). On this screen there was the background I had set for my home/lock page and also there were some other information (time, date, battery status when charging, etc.).
Yesterday I've (finally) bought an HTC Sensation XE (in USA known as Rezound) which has Android 2.3.4. Here on pattern lock screen there is no background, only a black color and also no other info as I was used to with Android 2.2.1.
Do You know if there is some setting or workaround to just have a normal background image I have set for my home/lock screen or is this option totally gone here and the black is only I can get?
Is there a way to have a phone lock on the Desire, in the way it is used on "normal" phones? What I mean is that I need a phone lock for security reasons - however it is a pain to use it every time I turn the screen on. Is there a way to have it work only when you turn the phone on? Right now if yu don't have a phone/screen lock security set if someone steals your phone they take out the sim card and use the phone normally ... if you do have it, then you must use the password every time you want to use the phone (I hate it). I know the best thing is to have a secured access but I was just wandering if it was possible to do seomething different?

It seems she does not remember the lock pattern and we have not signed up yet for a gmail account. We have tried holding the left and center button then holding the right after a battery pull but when the progress bar comes up(grey) it goes a little over halfway then stops, it never finishes. I have done a search and came up with nothing else. She has 2.1 if that helps.

I was really looking forward to some on android market that would allow me to hide certain apps and password lock them along with password locking settings options. Yet I have not been able to find any. I have a few apps that I want to hide from my family and friends.
I would rather not root my phone as I am not that technically advanced!
