Editing Android XML File Crashes Eclipse
Feb 23, 2010
Eclipse keeps crashing when I make too many changes to an android xml layout file. After making a certain amount of changes I get a "Problem Occurred - Save Failed - No More handles" error message box, and then eclipse crashes. This is on
Eclipse Galileo
Version 3.5.1
Build id: M20090917-0800
Is there a new version of eclipse that does not have this crash issue?

I create Android applications for my job. Eclipse is open all day and I am frequently editing XML files for layouts, etc. I find that creating/editing these XML files pushes up the memory use of Eclipse. Eclipse never seems to release any of the memory and eventually Eclipse tells me that there has been some sort of workbench out of memory error and I have to exit. It will not let me save or do much of anything after this point.
Is there a workaround for this? I don't want to have to exit Eclipse and start it up because of this memory issue. Why won't Eclipse free up its memory use? It just keeps going up. I am still having issues with running out of memory, the eclipse.ini suggestions did not fix it.

I'm new to Android & Eclipse. I've downloaded Eclipse and the Android ADT and created an ultra-simple "Hello World" app (has only auto-generated .java and .xml files). Eclipse CRASHES (closes after a very brief pause) when I do the following: In Package Explorer, select AppName/res/layout/main.xml Press, or double-click, or 'Open With' then 'Android Layout Editor' (The app runs OK in the Android emulator) My configuration is:
Android Development Tools 0.9.5.v200911191123-20404 com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group
Eclipse IDE for Java Developers 1.2.2.20100216-1730 epp.package.java
Windows XP
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or what's wrong with my configuration? Any suggestions on what to check? For any non-trivial app development I need to be able to use the Layout Editor. More ... I can select main.xml and Right-Click and 'Open With' any of: XML Editor, XML Schema Editor, Text Editor -- with no problem. The problem is limited to Android Layout Editor.

I have a Droid Bionic, and I have been trying to modify a version of Dungeon Hunter 2 to fit my screen. I have been using APK Manager to decompile the files. When I was trying to change the resolution in the gamerenderer.smali, the layout was different from other gameloft games. I can paste the text when needed.

I have 9 GB of music, most ripped from full abums I own. But the rest is in downloaded or copied songs. The problem is that these downloaded songs are sometimes misspelled, mislabled, the genre & other info isn't filled in at all, and or the album info is missing or incorrect. The result with a great audio player app like "3" (my favorite so far) is that I might have 35 Tom Petty songs, but because album info is missing on so many of them, the app has them dispersed among 22 different albums! Very annoying. (This happened after telling "3" to search for album art.) Then there's the "Unknown Atrist" catagory where I'll no doubt find another stray TP song, etc. What I'm looking for is another app that gives me a GUI that allows me to edit all of the tag data for music files in my library. Preferably it should have a search function so that I could type in "Tom Petty", for example, and all songs by him would come up so I could comb through and edit data for each one I choose,

When going from 3.02 to 4.04 on the Spectrum, the phone pulls an updated file. The update file is this: (remove the spaces in the link. I don't have a high enough thread count to post links yet)
[URL]
The file itself can be opened with WinRAR, but shows that it was signed by SignAPK.
My question is this, What should I theoretically need to do in order to inject root into this so that when the update runs on the phone, it adds SU to the system directory with the correct permission settings?

I am new at android development and java programming, but I have decided to program a drinking game app in android. This app basically simulates a deck a cards, a player clicks a button to draw a card then based on the card thats drawn the player plays a drinking game (ie takes 1 drink, takes 2 drinks ect).
I have the main program in one java file, and the code that shuffles the card deck and puts the card sequence in an array in other java file. My problem is that whenever a class from the other java file (classicMode.java) is called from the main program (fubar.java), my android program crashes and gives the error : "The application Drinking Game - FUBAR (process com.games.dg) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". Code...

Quick question: Where in the .pkg update package is the information on the build and the version of the update? I sort of screwed up my tablet, I can boot into stock recovery but not much more. ADB won't work, and AFAIK nobody knows how to enter fastboot mode on this thing. Hence, I figured that the only way to reinstall the ROM is to trick recovery into installing an update package that's already installed.
The tablet is Fujitsu STYLISTIC M532.

I'm trying to understand remote services at the moment and everything works fine, i can start the service and know how to communicate with it through the AIDL-interface. My problem is that the service seems to still run in the same process like the activity it was started from, because the activity crashes too, if there is an error thrown in the Service.
I set the service process to remote ( android:process=":remote" ) so what am i doing wrong? Or what do i have to do to unbind the service-process completely from the activity-process?

In Visual Studio, I can obtain a succinct list of public methods/members exposed in a class for which I do not have the source (i.e. bundled inside a DLL) by pressing F12 (GoToDefinition).
Similarly, I am learning the Android API - in Eclipse. Jumping to an Android framework method definition produces decompilation output which is not intuitive to read, and is very verbose. To mimic results like Visual Studio, I am considering several options:
How can I format the decompilation output to be 'cleaner' - I have looked through Eclipse's preferences menus and have not found a way to do this.
How do I 'add corresponding source files' once Google provides it, so that jumping to definition yields the actual definition?
Is there a plugin that does this already? I looked into Jadclipse, but that project has not been updated in several years, and is still a decompiler.

I just had the odd case that my Android project for some reason would not properly rebuild in Eclipse (v3.5/Galileo). Occasionally that happen and so I did the usual Project => Clean... as I always do in such cases. But this time I now have the odd effect that almost all files show bugs, and looking closer it's that the compiler can't find the R-file (which is indeed missing from the gen subtree). How do I force eclipse to rebuild that file?

I've followed the steps given in the Android Developer Blog to generate a build.xml for building releases for an Android Application. I need to do a custom compiling so I have overwritten the target compile of the ant_rules_r3.xml as it is said in the generated build.xml.
<target name="compile" depends="-resource-src, -aidl, -pre-compile" ...
The script works fine and generates the apk, but the problem is that Eclipse shows an error because it cannot find targets -resource-src, -aidl and -pre-compile (which are loaded when executing the script but are not really present on the build.xml). As there are these errors I cannot work with the project in Eclipse.
How can I skip the validation of this single file in Eclipse?

Now I know android works closely with java programming, so android is based off of java.In my application, I want a spinner, with 8 choices, and when the "spin" button is pushed, I want the spinner to randomly choose one option.
Can I create the spinner entirely with java code outside of android and then just insert the code into the .java file in eclipse? I'm familiar with java and would be able to pull this off if you can do it this way.
