Android :: Eclipse Class File Metadata

In Visual Studio, I can obtain a succinct list of public methods/members exposed in a class for which I do not have the source (i.e. bundled inside a DLL) by pressing F12 (GoToDefinition).
Similarly, I am learning the Android API - in Eclipse. Jumping to an Android framework method definition produces decompilation output which is not intuitive to read, and is very verbose. To mimic results like Visual Studio, I am considering several options:
How can I format the decompilation output to be 'cleaner' - I have looked through Eclipse's preferences menus and have not found a way to do this.
How do I 'add corresponding source files' once Google provides it, so that jumping to definition yields the actual definition?
Is there a plugin that does this already? I looked into Jadclipse, but that project has not been updated in several years, and is still a decompiler.

I'm creating a new class, using eclipse "New Java Class" dialog box. I can write the superclass I want (I can't find using "browse" button), but I can't write or select an interface to implement. I click "add" but ther is nothing to select. What I'm doing wrong?

I received a Text message sent from an E-Mail and I was wondering if it was possible to find the individual file on the filesystem holding the metadata for the E-Mail.
If so, would I have to root the phone? And where would that file be located?
I'm a techie, so no need to warn me that I could hurt my phone or files - I'm only looking to READ, not WRITE, and I'd be making a copy of that file beforehand anyways and porting it to a PC in order to check it with whatever program is necessary to decrypt (Probably only need a hex editor.)

Is there anything the Dalvik VM supports (in terms of bytecode) which is not used currently because the .class files don't have it?
As an example, if people would write their own Source-to-DX converter for their functional language XYZ, would they be able to implement e. g. full tail calls although the .class file does support tail calls only under certain circumstances?

I've noticed that then I use "clean" from Eclipse project menu on my project I receive following error
[2009-02-19 09:55:02 - MyListView] no classfiles specified [2009-02-19 09:55:02 - MyListView] Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1
Project doesn't use any external jars and rather simple. If I uncheck build automatically and build it - it builds and runs just fine. I'm on MacOSX 10.5.6 and JDK 1.6.0_07. And latest android SDK ( android-sdk-mac_x86-1.1_r1.zip 79046151 bytes becf0f1763d61eedce15d2a903d6c1dd )

I am trying to add an 'Android Library project' I have created to another regular Android project. The Library Project had a jar dependency and was also dependent on another java project in my workspace. I had to add both of these to the my 'regular Android project' because otherwise Eclipse could not find them (Not sure if this was the right thing to do because it would mean that I will have to manually update all projects when the library gets another jar dependency). Anyway, the errors went away and now the Regular Android Project can't find the R class, I have tried a clean but it did not work. I checked in the /gen folder and both the R classes are there - from the library and the regular project.They have the correct strings inside them.

When I type ImageView or AnimationDrawable I get a string of errors proclaiming:
AnimationDrawable cannot be resolved to a type.
line 14 Java Problem
I don't understand, do I need to create another class? Or do the AnimationDrawables just not go in the filename.java?
And if I do need to create another class, can you show me how?

How can I detect whether or not an Image View has a picture in it upon a button click. I had a class that displays a picture and some results, but I don't want the user to be able to access those results (pushing the button) until the results have been written to that class.
So, I figured I needed to check to see if there was a picture displayed in the ImageView yet.
So something like:
CODE:...............
But obviouslt R.id.photoResultView == null isn't the right way to do it...anyone know how?

I'm coming over from C# where I can make a namespace and then have each class placed into its own .cs file if I want, but in all of the examples I've seen for android all of the methods and classes are all in one big java file.
Is it possible to put my classes in to their own java files and then import those classes into a main program java file as needed like I do in C#?

Basically I've been playing around with developing Android apps and I was editing one earlier. I changed my main.xml file and when I went back to my class that runs the app all references to the "R" class were broken. I looked in the "gen" folder (Generated Java Files) and saw that the class was completely gone from the solution.
I had been debugging not 5 minutes before and didn't have any problems doing so. The only things I had done since debugging were moving 2 files from the "drawable-hdpi" folder to the assets folder and I had edited the "main.xml" file.
I've tried cleaning the project and restarting Eclipse but neither of those ideas worked.

This is for an Android application but I'm broadening the question to Java as I don't know how this is usually implemented. Assuming you have a project that targets a specific SDK version. A new release of the SDK is backward incompatible and requires changing three lines in one class. How is this managed in Java without duplicating any code(or by duplicating the least amount)?
I don't want to create two projects for only 3 lines that are different. What I'm trying to achieve in the end is a single executable that'll work for both versions. In C/C++, you'd have a #define based on the version. How do I achieve the same thing in Java?

I'm using Eclipse to learn to develop Android applications in Java. I haven't used Eclipse before.The project I'm trying to use (supplied by OReilly as part of 'Android Application Development') is MJAndroid. When attempting to run the project, the Run fails, and the Problems tab mentions com.java.Object can't be found, and Eclipse asks me to check the build path. Clicking Properties -> Java Build Path -> Libraries, the message 'Unable to get system library for the project' is displayed.On a working project, Properties -> Java Build Path -> Libraries has an entry for Android 1.1, which if I click Edit, has the classpath container path of com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.ANDROID_FRAMEWORK.It seems a simple matter of adding the correct container path to my non-working project. However Eclipse seems determined to make this as difficult as possible. No matter what I chose to add - jars, externals jars, variables, libraries, class folders, external class folders, nothing seems to take the form of 'com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.ANDROID_FRAMEWORK' that the 'Android 1.1' entry on the working app has.

I'm trying to get access to the metadata about podcasts, such as the show notes/description, the show title and the icon image. I'm at least partially using ContentResolver to query for most of the AudioColumns information, but for some reason ALBUM_ART is missing, there seems to be no column for the description, and in general, it's not clear what the mapping is. Since podcasts are not songs, they don't generally have "composers", "artists" and "albums" they have show titles, episode titles, hosts, etc. Is there any information out there on what standards are generally used for podcast metadata and how I can efficiently access it?

I think I have a pretty easy problem to solve, but I have been beating my head against the wall for hours trying to get past it! I have an adapter that loads a list of URLS:
adapter=new MyAdapter(this, lStrings);
list.setAdapter(adapter);
The list of URLS looks like this:
private String[] lStrings={
"http://www.domain.com/file1.jpg",
"http://www.domain.com/file2.jpg",
"http://www.domain.com/file3.jpg",
};
What I want instead is to load these values from a text file that lies on the SD card. For that matter, I would be okay with loading the values from a text file into a String, and then load the String into the list as I imagine that would be the "cleaner approach". However, all attempts to do this have failed. For instance, I replaced the above snippet with this:
private String[] lStrings=
{ MainActivity.this.getString(R.string.myurllist) };
but then I get a Forced Close on loading.
I'm a bit new to Java, Android, and development in general.

I am new at android development and java programming, but I have decided to program a drinking game app in android. This app basically simulates a deck a cards, a player clicks a button to draw a card then based on the card thats drawn the player plays a drinking game (ie takes 1 drink, takes 2 drinks ect).
I have the main program in one java file, and the code that shuffles the card deck and puts the card sequence in an array in other java file. My problem is that whenever a class from the other java file (classicMode.java) is called from the main program (fubar.java), my android program crashes and gives the error : "The application Drinking Game - FUBAR (process com.games.dg) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". Code...
