Displaying A List Of Images?
Jul 1, 2013
here's what I want :-
An activity using Scrollable Tabs + Swipe - To display a predefined list of images.
This activity will be opened by a Listview activity, containing a list of Items that are really just the Names of the Images.
Corresponding to this list of Names of images are the URLs where these images are stored...
Names in one list , their URLs in another.
I want to obtain the list selection index from the listview activity, go to the activity displaying images and use that index to retrieve the URL and then display the image in it.

I am loading my web pages into the default browser in the Android Emulator using Xampp and localhost (as 10.0.2.2). The pages load okay but no images are displayed.
In browser settings, under bandwidth management, "Load Images is ticked". Google displays images if I do an image search.
Turning off anti virus and firewall makes no difference.

I've got the following main.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <AbsoluteLayout
android:id="@+id/widget0" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<ListView android:id="@+id/listview" android:layout_width="315px"
android:layout_height="379px" android:layout_x="2px" android:layout_y="50px" >
</ListView> <TextView android:id="@+id/title" android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Select device:" android:textSize="17sp"
android:layout_x="-2px" android:layout_y="1px" >
</TextView> <Button android:id="@+id/refresh" android:layout_width="109px"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Refresh" android:layout_x="209px android:layout_y="7px" >
</Button> </AbsoluteLayout>
The main class does nothing but drawing the layout. I've got the following class and layout for the listitems:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:padding="10dp" android:textSize="16sp" >
</TextView> package com.android.bluetoothp2p;
import android.app.ListActivity; import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View; import android.widget.AdapterView;
import android.widget.AdapterView.OnItemClickListener; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter;
import android.widget.ListView; import android.widget.TextView;
import android.widget.Toast;
public class BTListView extends ListActivity {
@Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, COUNTRIES)); ListView lv = getListView();
lv.setTextFilterEnabled(true); lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
// When clicked, show a toast with the TextView text
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), ((TextView) view).getText(),
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } } ); }
Countries is just an array with a list of countries, some dummy values. Now, how do I make the list items of the BTListView class go in the ListView (with @+id/listview) of the main class? Now my list works, but it isn't clickable anymore. This is the code:
ListView lv = getListView(); lv.setTextFilterEnabled(true);
lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
// When clicked, show a toast with the TextView text
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "lolwat", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
} } );

I know it's supposed to as my hero did the same, so it might be a HTC sense thing. Just wondering if there's a way of stopping it from displaying my call history when I want to see my contacts? When I press the phone button, I want to call one of my contacts, not have to scroll down from my call logs! The call logs should have been on a seperate button on the bottom of the screen I think.

I've just got my Wildfire and I'm pretty much satisfied, there's one thing that bothers me though. When I press the "phone" button, the list of contacts appears with a keypad. Everything's fine except for the fact, that I have all my contacts doubled - it displays those from the phone memory as well as those from the sim card. Now - this does not apply to the regular "people" list. in its menu, you can tap "view" and select the items you want to see. so I unchecked "Sim" and "Google" contacts and all I have is a neat list of phone contacts. I cannot find any such option for the phone list. Yes, I could use the "contacts" list to find people but there's another problem - it does not offer this awesome filtering by keypad that is present in the "phone" list. I can only open the keypad and type exact parts of people's names using either standard input or t9. what happens in the "phone" list, is that it seeks for contacts already on basis of the keypad button you've pressed. for example, in order to type Tom using normal input, you have to press 8 6 6 6 6. In the 'phone' list you only have to press 8 and 6. all in all, the best thing would be to have both worlds combined. but the easiest way to solve my problem would be simply to disable SIM contacts from the regular phone list. Otherwise I'll have to delete them from my simcard, which is not the best solution.

I m making an application which requires me to list all the images available on the SD-Card of the phone.
i tried querying the ContentResolver way i.e.
Cursor image = getContentResolver().query(Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, new String[]{Images.Media._ID,Images.Media.DATA,Images.Media.DISPLAY_NAME}, null, null, null);
but without any result. Is there any way i can get the list or if thats not possible then is there any possible intent (e.g. PICK) by which i can allow the user to select a file and then access the path of the file the user selected?

I would be retrieving values from SQLite database and have to display it in a list view. So how should I pass the images out from the database into the list view (in fact, I only save the image uri in db). I am able to save and retrieve images individually and display it on the screen. But how do I pass a bitmap and display it in a list view.

I'm working on an Android application that needs to look at what images a user has stored. The problem is that if the user has the sdcard mounted via the USB cable, I can't read the list of images on the disk. Does anyone know of a way to tell if the usb is mounted so that I could just pop up a message informing the user that it won't work?

I have a list of 70 text items with image icons(which are stored in drawables folder).
If I launch application the first time and scroll the list slowly - the exception doesn't occur.
When the application is launched the first time and I scroll the list with 'fling' action the following exception occurs:
COD:.....................
After that, if I kill the application with DDMS, start it again and scroll it with 'fling' action, exception doesn't occur. So the exception arises only if application is installed and launched the first time.
Here is the adapter I use for the list:
CODE:................
Is there a way to avoid the exception? Should I catch the exception and escape the memory somehow?

I am building a android aplication which will be consuming a json file from the internet. This json file contains a list of news from a particular website. Each json object contains information such like title, summary, descripition and web links for the news thumbnail and the original image.
I will be displaying in a listview three information: the news thumbnail, the title and the summary. Here resides my problem. I dont want to load all thumbnails from the internet if they wont be displayed. What I am trying to say is that why download a thumbnail from the 30th news if the user wont scroll down the image. So, i will, initially only download the thumnails from those news that are being displayed in the screen and when the user scrolls down to see more news, as soon as the list item appers to the screen i want to download the image and then display.
Is there a way to achieve this? Is it possible to find out if the list item is on the screen? I have been searching all over the internet for a solution for this but i am running out of ideas.

I'm basically using the same method of loading bitmaps in OpenGL that the SpriteMethodTest example uses and have been unable to get rid of an annoying outline that appears around all of my images.
For example, If I were to load an image of a white circle on a white background, I would expect to see nothing. Instead, I would see my circle because its edge would be gray. In SpriteMethodTest, I replaced the background image with white and was able to see that the edges of the android images flying around also don't seem to be rendered correctly.
Does anyone know how to load images in OpenGL without having a thin outline appear around the images?

I'm working to convert some background images to nine patch so they scale better on different phones.
The problem is that if I have the following resource structure: drawable-hdpi/background.png drawable-hdpi/button.png drawable-mdpi/background.png drawable-mdpi/button.png drawable-ldpi/background.png drawable-ldpi/button.png and then I drop a new drawable-hdpi/background.9.png file into the mix, it breaks button.png during the pre-compile. The error is "No resource found that matches the given name (at 'background' with value '@drawable/button').Simply removing that one nine patch file fixes the build. Should I be able to have some nine patch images and some normal ones, or to have nine patch only in hdpi but not mdpi or ldpi? This is Eclipse 3.5.1 with the latest ADT.

I am on my first Android application and I am on a timeline so details and examples will be useful since my knowledge is still minimal. I want my first screen to present the user with a list of activities to choose from. In my situation it is a recipe app where the user first chooses the type of food, such as, Beef, Chicken, or Pork. I want the application to launch an activity depending on the list item that the user clicked on. I am not sure if I should use a list view, a text view, a scroll view, a list activity, an activity group...

I'm trying to create a multiple selection list where the selection is represented graphically rather than with checkboxes.My list has checkboxes, but I want them to serve a different purpose. I'm using a cursor to hold my data and created a custom view binder for the SimpleCursorAdapter. I did this for the checkboxes and general flexibility.So far I haven't even been able to show one line as being selected. I've enabled multiple selection on the list and denied the children of the list item focusability. I've tried manually changing background color with the position fed in through the list item click listener. But the wrong items get changed and they don't even change to the right color. I've enabled touch focusability with no improvement either.Ideally, I'd like the trackball highlight focus bar to appear in multiple places. But I don't think this is possible unless you use the drawable directly. But I don't know how to find or apply it. My next idea was to have a slim view bar that changes color. But I had the same problem with the wrong item being selected so I never finished trying to guess the index position to see if this would work. My most recent idea is to completely swap out the view for another one if it's selected. But I have no idea how to do this either. I'm thinking of using an array list to store the _id s of the items that need a different view to get around the wierd selection problem. I'm also thinking of passing in the ID field as my from and the selection view as the to for my adapter. Then I'd intercept it with my binder and change the view accordingly. But once again, I'm not sure how to do this successfuly.

I'm trying to tackle a problem that seemingly many Android developers have, which is how to intersperse lists with non-list data, in one big scrollable pane.The model I have in mind is the screen for an individual app in the Market. You have a big description, a list of a few lazily loaded comments, and then some individual items that do different things, like visit the developer's web page, call them, etc. And then in between them all, are nice section headers.Emulating this approach seems to be extremely hard. I've read enough SO answers and mailing list posts to know not to put a ListView inside of a ScrollView, but I want the same effect without using addHeader() and addFooter() with very complex header and footer views. I've tried using a LinearLayout that I stock with views myself, but I can't get the pleasant click effects that default list items have (the orange background, white for long-click, etc.).
