Android :: Application Checks Website Woot
May 14, 2010
I am new to android and thought it would be fun to develop an app that goes out and checks woot.com. The idea I came up with is for the app to be a widget that refresh woot.com once a day and displays a picture of the item and price. If the widget is clicked on it would open the browser to woot.com. In theory this seems like it would be easy but I am having trouble figuring out where to begin.

For those who applied to get your payout limit removed, Google Finance required personal information (like SSN) with the understanding that they "may" be performing routine credit history verifications. Does this concern you? I understand each credit check run on you by any institution (bank, mortgage, etc) lowers your credit score. I can't understand how (or why) Google finance needs to do this. Also, does anyone know how often they do these credit checks?

I've created an application which loads a WebView. In order to login, the website requires basic authentication. When i try to access the website via the default browser, I get a pop up box prompting me to enter my user name and password.
If I try to access the website via my application, I get error 401 and no pop up. I was wondering if someone could help me out?

I have seen few apps having exact same UI when you access the app through stand alone app or through their mobile website. What are the pros and cons of both approaches while developing the app?

I am new to Android development and am interested in working out a design of an application. I am however, unfamiliar with the best way to handle what I want to do. I am interested in obtaining information from my band's Joomla website and placing it into an Android application. At the moment I'd like to get News articles posted and potentially other information that I create on the site. I was thinking of doing this by setting up RSS feeds for the website. Would it be better to somehow access the data directly by connecting to the database? I don't know PHP so I can't develop a webservice to access the content. Any ideas?

I am trying to make an application which will upload pictures to a website. I need to let the user browse through the pictures they want to upload and select them. However, when I try to use the MediaStore I always get an empty cursor.
I created an SD CARD image and used that with the emulator. I know one image exists in /sdcard/media. I copied it using an image manipulation tool (winimage). And, I can see the image when I use the command "ls / sdcard/media" in the terminal application of the phone.
The code I am using is this : Code...
Am I missing something here?

I was at the AT&T Store last night trying out this phone during Woot.com's woot off. I tried going to Woot.com and every time the browser shut down and kicked me to the home page. Scared me off the phone a bit. Then, by chance, I was on Woot.com's boards and found out that two other Captivate users had the same problem. Not sure what this means, but is this a problem with certain sites on the Captivate?

I barely ever get it to work accurately. It's easier just to jump to the contact list. I would like to use it in the car, and this is through the handset not bluetooth. Otherwise it's AWESOME. I am humbled so far, especially at the app selection.

Maybe either through API level, or by querying market info. I want to check on GB before I upgrade to ICS, which apps will not work. Don't know if relevant but it is for SGS II.

I have a problem with an HTC Desire. I have an emailaddress that does not require authentication for the outgoing mail. I've unchecked the "authentication required" tickbox and saved the settings.
Somehow the phone automatically resets the Authentication setting and there I can't send email.
My question: how can I prevent the Desire from automatically place a checkmark next to "Authentication Required"?

I know that this was asked before, but he one I found only pointed the person to the android sdk and documentation and I'm sre that there must be an easier way for doing what I wanna do.OK, so I have a mobile site I built specifically for his purpose, which is sitting online as we speak, but I want to put it in an app.so basically I want to have something with a browser in it that will only load my site (hiding teh URL off course creating the illusion of an app).Is there any way to do this quickly and easily with having to install eclipse and all that? Maybe a freestanding application that can just "frame" a site like that?

I cannot seem to login to a particular website. I get a server error and their help desk says it may be that I need to clear the cache and enable cookies. Well I did that and it did not help. I then installed another browser (Dolphin H) and the problem persists. I ahve used quite a bit of time to solve the problem but I am stumped. I can login into other secure websites but not this one

I was wondering if anyone knew a good GPS sharing app for the Droid so that my family can follow along with me on my trip back from college. I take a bunch of different people back with me, and figured if there was an easy way to share my GPS location (constantly refreshing) on a website for their family along as well.
