Android :: Want To Install Text-to-Speak Extended Library
Nov 2, 2010
When I open Google Translate it asks me if I want to install the Text-to-Speak Extended Library. When I tap yes, it goes to the Market and says it can't find anything. When it pulls up the Market, it searches for some TTS file or something. Anyone else have this problem and/or know how to solve it?

Is there an app/add-on for Android that will speak my contacts name or number when I get an incoming call or text? I absolutely LOVE that feature about my Dare and will miss it greatly. Helps me know if I need to get the phone out of my pocket for an important call or if it can go to voicemail. Is there a feature in Android that can speak my contacts to me...like "call from Dad's Cell" or "message from Robert" like my LG Dare?

I have a few questions about how Chomp works on the Epic: If I download Chomp, will I still get notifications at the top notification pull down on the home page? Or are the only notifications given on the actual chomp icon? (I don't want to have two notifications.) I was also wondering if I would still be able to use the "speak to text" feature that the stock app has? Lastly, there is a set of permanent icons on the home screen (phone, contacts, messaging, apps). When I click messaging, would it go to chomp?

Sometimes when I try to install custom roms with odin3 I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error. It always says: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information". Right now, I am trying to flash a custom rom and it is giving me this. Do I need to change something in the data.img or something?

It doesn't matter what profile I have selected not that I have chosen which notification sound I want, it just starts playing a random song from my music collection. That in itself isn't so bad but what winds me up more than anything is that I have to interact with the phone to stop the tune from playing. Anyone got any ideas as to what it could be. It's on Orange running 2.1 and my ringtones etc are done through Zedge

I have an Android library project that makes calls to PreferencesManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences.
I have 2 version of my app, paid/free, and they are not able to access the preferences stored by the library code.
Can someone tell me the right way to store values in SharedPreferences in library code and have the values available to projects that include the library?

According to this SDK guide, unit-testing a Library project can be achieved by creating a standard application project, reference the Library project and then instrument the application for unit testing. However, when I do this and launch the test application I get the message. No tests found with test runner 'JUnit 3".I'm using Eclipse and the Android ADT plugin, all latest versions.the projects compile just fine. The test project also installs fine to the emulator. But in the console I can see that it looks for <library>.apk, which of course doesn't exist since I'm compiling this as a library into the test project.

But you know, on G1 with official OS image, /system/lib is readonly. Recently installed Talk To Me Cloud, the translation app. Is pretty cool to press a button, talk into it and get a translation. There seems to be a little speaker icon next to the translation results, and when I press it I would expect to hear it say the translated sentence back to me, but it doesn't. Nothing happens. Press slightly to the left on if on the text itself and I'm told it's copied the text to the clipboard, but pressing on the little speaker icon does nothing. I have text to speech installed on my phone, which works in other apps (well, it worked in Sportypal anyway), so anyone know if there is a way of making this work? Should it work?

As I understand, the three ways of distributing my application are via Jar, Android Library and Android Library Project.Jar - cannot contain resources or XML layouts (so this is out for me)Android Library - I don't really know how this works but the Google API uses it..Android Library Project - includes resources but allows the client free rein on the code as it is distributed as source. If I am to create a closed source application that requires drawables and XML files that I want to distribute to other Android programmers, what should I use? And can someone direct me to a tutorial on creating an Android Library?

I have a serious problem when making calls without a headset, with the phone in my hand. People I call are telling me that they hear a phone number being dialed loudly while I speak to them, as if I am making a call while speaking to them. Today it happened and the person said she had to shout to be heard over this loud noise-which I cant hear!! I must be touching some button or application with my hand or face, but what?

Android AMF client library Aftek has extensive experience in developing enterprise Flex applications. We have used BlazeDS extensively and we believe that it would nice to provide all the benefits provided by AMF for Android applications as well. We have developed an Android AMF client library which would enable Android application developers use the same extensively. The Android AMF client library supports remoting and secured remoting. This will allow all android applications to use the existing backend like .NET, Java, or PHP. The implementation is asynchronous in nature providing success and failure callbacks. This allows application to perform other tasks without blocking the application. We are currently performing some performance benchmarking and plan to release our library very soon. We would also be incorporating the messaging feature as well.
Android RTMP client library:Aftek has extensive experience in developing voip and audio/video and media applications. Media applications has a huge market and there would be quite a few people eager to develop the medial applications on Android. We believe that it would nice to provide all the benefits provided by RTMP for Android applications as well. We are developing an Android RTMP client library which would enable Android application developers use the same extensively. Our Android RTMP client library would support some add-ons that would help developers to deliver robust media solutions.

I rooted my phone (Samsung Galaxy S Showcase i500) the other day and deleted a lot of the stock apk files, the ones that I thought I didn't need .
One of them was Voice Search (and also voice commands, if that matters). Now, my speech or voice to text in my text messaging program is not working. Whenever I press the mic icon, nothing happens. Through searching I think I've determined it's because I deleted the voice search apk?
Whenever I go to the Market to download Google Voice Search, the Market says its already "installed"...but obviously its not?! I've tried downloading the file from other places but when I try to install it says "There is a problem parsing the package."
Bottom line, how do I get my speech to text back?

I won't beat around the bush here... I'm trying to put my GLSurfaceView (called ShapeSurfaceView) into a relative layout. Before trying to use a layout, everything has been working fine simply instantiating the view and calling setContentView(mShapeSurfaceView). Since I got this error I researched how to create the layout completing in the Java and that is working quite nicely... it's just a ton of code to setup the layout, view and rules for the view. I'd really rather have the XML method working.
Here's the main XML, I've added no other views yet...
The java from onCreate, nothing special...
setContentView(R.layout.main); mShapeSurfaceView = (ShapeSurfaceView)findViewById(R.id.glview);
Here is the logcat error. My previous logcat error was mentioning the class constructor missing the AttributeSet parameter so I added that to the constructor for the ShapeSurfaceView yet still ended up with this. code...
