Android :: Tethering Apps In The Market Are Now Blocked

May 25, 2009

I have done just about everything I need on my phone except tethering. Since I only had Edge available, I had never bothered to look into tethering, but now that 3g is on the horizon for me (June rollout), I am looking to tether.

Now, I recall reading that tethering apps in the market are now blocked. If that is true, where would I go to find the tethering apps, which is the best out there, and how would I go about loading it onto my phone.

I did give PDA net a shot, but the auto installer will not load it onto my phone...

Android :: Market Be Locked Down / Blocked / Removed?

Nov 12, 2010

My company is looking at upgrading from WinMo Intrepids to possibly Android phones. We are with Sprint so only those phones are being looked at.Couple of questions from an enterprise mind.Android 2.2 updated exchange policy support so some of our concerns are being met.My biggest questions are relating to Sprint ID and the Android Market. One does anyone know if you can totally locked down Sprint ID? As in not allow other ones from being downloaded and installed. Basically to give us a way to lock the phone down with what apps we want.Next big thing is can the Android Market be locked down/Blocked/Removed?Remember these are going to be company phones mainly being used for exchange email, not personal phones to play around with eating up data.Generally just looking at ways to keep the phones secure from all the nasties out there. We are looking at the Optimus S which is why I bring up Sprint ID.For my side of it, I would generally be against this. I own an Evo and love tinkering plus I will be the one developing in house apps for us to use.

General :: Disconnecting Apps From Android Market - Deleting Market Link?

Apr 7, 2011

I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.

how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?

Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.

I'm using a SGS - DocRom V9.6 with Speedmod Kernel k13a

Android :: Market Ranks Apps In The Market

Oct 6, 2010

I know my question answers but since there's a lot of you who really spend your time scrutinizing your rank, downloads and all, I'm trying it maybe someone came up with empiric science on this one :

Does anyone understood even bits of how the market ranks apps in the market ?

I usually don't look at stats but following another post on this topic, I counted my rank in my category ... 565 ... Ouch that hurts! Especially when half the apps in front of mine, are crap apps with less downloads and ratings as low as 1 star :).

Not that it would make a difference being rank 250 instead of 565...But this is humiliating a little :s

Since my app has been on the market for one month, i'm wondering if age matters ...

I know I should have asked in the market "black hole of hell " google group but the name says it all. And I'm sure some of you already figured out some of the black magic used by the Market to rank apps.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Tethering - NES And Apps

Oct 30, 2009

Tethering - using PdaNet, works flawlessly. I have used it on forums and to watch videos. I am getting speeds between 1.5 and 2.0, not bad at all.

NESoid - works great, just make sure the background apps aren't running. Use the search and back buttons for A and B.

Apps - I switched from the iPhone 3Gs and found that any usable App from the App Store can be found in the Android Market.

I have not had any of the problems listed. All I have done is replace the messaging app with handcent's. I do a soft reset every now and again, but that is all the changes I have made.

Sprint and Android together = Awesome - I pay $60 a month with my discount and get unlimited to any mobile, 450 land line minutes, unlimited data and text message.

HTC Incredible :: Unrevoked - Tethering - Deleting Stock Apps - =

Jun 24, 2010

I just rooted my phone. First, what is the Unrevoked reflash for? I though it was a custom ROM, but it seems to be something to back up your phone?

Is the wifi-tethering that installed with the root free, or does it still add that extra $30/month Verizon has on their stock-tether?

Is it possible to underclock the Incredible? My phone never has speed problems, but the battery never lasts the day. It'd be nice to have some trade-off.

Lastly, how do I get a custom ROM onto my phone? Are there any stable ones available yet?

Android :: AudioFlinger - Many Write Blocked For Log WARN Messages

May 1, 2009

I'm using the MediaPlayer to play audio (mp3) files. I don't think I'm doing anything out of the ordinary, but, during playback, I get many (several per second) log messages like these:

05-01 09:46:20.685: WARN/AudioFlinger(554): write blocked for 47 msecs 05-01 09:46:20.785: WARN/AudioFlinger(554): write blocked for 47 msecs 05-01 09:46:20.895: WARN/AudioFlinger(554): write blocked for 49 msecs 05-01 09:46:20.985: WARN/AudioFlinger(554): write blocked for 47 msecs

I've searched all over the place for this - other people seem to experience the same thing but I can find any sort of explanation as to what it means.

Am I doing something wrong?

Also, how do I define a LogCat filter (in eclipse) to *remove*, say, all AudioFlinger messages? I can't seem to find the "not" syntax.

Android :: Is There A Way To Get Icons For Apps On Market?

Aug 22, 2009

Just wondering if it is possible to get icons for applications on the Android Market? For example, if there is an application called "com.mycompany.someapp", is there a way to programmatically grab an image (icon) for that application either through an Android API or by simply downloading it from someplace on the net? I know it is possible to get the icon for an installed app using the PackageManager API; however, I don't believe that works for apps that are not installed. Failing that, since PackageManager can get a list of icons for installed applications, it should be possible to compile a fairly comprehensive list by creating an app that queries the PackageManger and uploads all the installed app icons to a webserver. That's not as nice as a true API, but it seems like it would work reasonably well. Can anyone think of anything particularly wrong with that approach?

Android :: Can't Find Many Top Apps In Market

Nov 19, 2009

I have a new Droid Eris and have been having a really hard time finding apps that I read about in different places. I often find myself reviewing a very popular, top-rated app, then not being able to find it no matter how I search in the Market. These aren't usually obscure, ancient, one-off apps. I usually am hearing about them in 'top Android apps' articles, etc.

I usually search by the exact name, then alternate spellings. And I recently got the Barcode Scanner and am scanning the QR codes over at AndroLib.com to see if it's any easier. But I haven't gotten ANY of those to come up.

- What gives with the Android Market? Could I have something setup improperly?

I live in Los Angeles, so I doubt it's a location issue.

Some sample apps I couldn't find just tonight:
- Camera ZOOM FX
- Voice Trans
- Voice Text
