It's not a massive issue but does anyone else have problems sometimes with photos coming out in the wrong orientation...

So, after having to live with GPS that's at best flaky and at worst non-existent for the last three months I've now found something else related Samsung has managed to screw up. All the photos my phone has taken are geotagged with 0 lat, 0 lon. So, somewhere off the west coast of Africa. Other handsets I've used have tagged with the inexact location (i.e. cell tower fix) when an accurate location isn't available.
I would expect either this or no tag at all. Maybe while I'm stripping off the tags this evening I'll put in an order for a Desire HD. Thanks Samsung, I'm just about annoyed enough now to no longer care what fixes or updates you may choose to grace us with at some unspecified point in the future. Ok, that rant may have been a bit over the top but I do feel a little better now!
I just got a Nexus 5 and spent the whole of the afternoon trying to migrate my photos and videos from my GNex to the 5. I managed to move everything over, but here is where things went wrong
The metadata displays the time of the file transfer, instead of the original time/date the photo was taken. I'm OCD and a stickler for getting my files in order, so having all my pics/vids in the Gallery app display in the wrong order is really bugging me.
Initially I used My Backup Pro to move the files over, then deleted everything and transferred them from GNex -> Macbook -> Nexus 5 via Android File Transfer. Files were transferred fine, but the time/date stamp is still wrong.
I have created an activity for my game which handles all orientation changes by itself and has a fixed "portrait" layout. Actually it uses the accelerometer and is rendered using 2D canvas methods. If the level has been completed I show up a highscore dialog in which the user can enter his name. The dialog is floating above the underlying level screen which gets blurred out nicely. This generally works.
Problem is that the dialog does not get rotated if the orientation of the phone changes. So even if the keyboard is exposed the dialog is shown in portrait mode instead of landscape. I have tried to use an activity with dialog theme instead but the behavior didn't change. After several tries it seems that I have found the reason for this: Once there's an activity with fixed orientation in the activity stack then all subsequent activities keep this orientation, too. They will not react on orientation changes anymore (e.g. if the keyboard gets exposed).
After upgrading to 1.5 SDK the described behavior changed a little bit. Now at subactivities indead react on orientation changes like expected. However, the need to have an opaque background! That means that neither dialogs nor activities with dialog theme will work. Those will stick with the orientation of the underlaying activity. So my workaround is to first start a sub-activity with an opaque black background. This activity then shows my highscore dialog on top. It looks quite okay but I wonder if there's a better solution? Is it possible to show a dialog above a fixed portrait or landscape activity which automatically adapts to orientation changes?
I understand how to force a specific orientation per activity in the android manifest. I would like to know if it is possible to allow the keyboard to change orientation even though the activity(the layout really) must remain unchanged.

I would like to have some kind of 360°-value which directly shows me if the phone is in normal portrait (0°), landscape, portrait turned around (180°) or anything in between. So I could have, for example, an arrow that points to the floor (like gravity would do with a plummet) all the time, no matter how I tilt (sidewards) the phone. I thought this would be easy, but I'm pretty confused at the moment.
First of all, the X value of the orientation-array seems to correspondent with how I turn the phone, BUT: if it's completely uprightly standing, this value is about 60° ... why not 0° (or 90°, 180°, 270°), as I would expect?
Second: The value resets if I turn the phone and Android automatically changes screen orientation. So both in Portrait and in Landscape mode it will be sth. like 60° when the phone is in a 0° angel in real world. I set "android:screenOrientation" to "landscape" but this doesn't help anything :/
I want the app NOT to change orientation when I turn the phone, but I want it to get a continuous orientation value when I tilt the phone.
Just trying this out on photos of photos. And yes it works. These are my own shots taken with a DSLR, they are printed and hanging and I used my Captivate to photograph them off the wall. The first one I instantly re-tagged because I didn't realize the exact name of what I photographed. If I send any updated location, the new location also getting picked (showing toast) and able to animate to new point. I'm working behind a firewall (proxy enabled). - App is showing the MapView but background is Grey with line-Grids (not real google maps visible) - Proxy is working fine. What can be the reason for actual maps not getting visible? Do we need to get access 'enabled' for any kind of URL (which might getting blocked by firewall)?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have HTC Evo and installed Graffiti some time ago with no problems. Yesterday I did an update of several apps including Graffiti, which required a manual update to a new version. Ever since the updates were completed, I have an ad show up in the text input area. This shows when I'm either doing a google search, text message, etc. It's always an ad for Netfront Life Browser (which I don't have installed). It's really irritating because I have to tap the ad to make it disappear which makes Graffiti think I'm hitting the screen to input punctuation. So I have to tap it again to remove punctuation mode before I can enter text. The ad also will pop up in the middle of inputting the Graffiti text. I'm not sure if the updated Graffiti is forcing the ads in, or if it's another app that is causing it. Any ideas on how to fix this? I hate to lose Graffiti but something has to give - it's now much slower to use Graffiti than regular keyboard.
