Currently I've been using google's static maps to display maps in a phonegap app I'm developing. But I'm wondering if there's any way to load a google map that the user could scroll into and out of? I would want similar functionality as the maps app in most mobile environments. Is there any way to incorporate that type of service into my app?

i've read about phonegap which enables to write web-based apps for android and i was wondering:how is performance of phonegap compared to a "real" android app.what would NOT work in phonegap?i know it's possible to implement google maps with phonegap but i guess there's a lots of limitation compared to direct coding the maps under android?as a newbie to android (but intermediate in web-programming), should i rather go for direct android coding instead of phonegap? i'm planning to write an app which uses google maps service+gps, database access and such, and i'm afraid it's not really possible with phonegap.

In my Activity (that extends MapActivity) I'm creating a data thread that is receiving data from the network. A 'handler' is used to communicate the data from the receiving thread to map activity. This data contains the locations (lat, lon) of the markers that I want to overlay on my map. The location of each marker is dynamic (i.e., it changes every time I receive new data from the network.) refreshItems(ArrayList<OverlayItem> newItems) method in invoked inside the handleMessage() of the handler. There are around 11 markers in the ArrayList that is passed to refreshItems

I've started to develop in Android 2 weeks ago and until now, I like it! Currently I am working on a project where I have to display an individual map (not a google maps view, I'd like to display the map of a building's interior) with which the user can interact(mark positions, etc.).
Is there a framework or an existing app that I could use? Of course I searched the internet but could not find anything. Perhaps it is in some way possible to use the google maps API?
I obtained a production maps API key. I then signed the .apk with the production keystore cert, but when I load it onto my phone there is no maps data. I do, however, get maps data with the dev key. What am I missing here?????? This is literally blocking my release here.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought hts desire 2 days ago and very impressed with it. but started to get annoying with Google maps. Either I dont understand how it works or my desire not working properly. With no problem I can connect to GPS and can see its on but when i go to Maps application I cant see anything except flashing blue arrow. Maps dont load. My maps loaded when I connect to WiFi. Does it mean I always have to connect to GPS and internet to load maps? Feels strange that i cant see any maps with only GPS on.

Whenever I try to view my location, zoom in or out, or drag the map around, all I get is the white pixilated screen. Sometimes it will load, sometimes it won't. Sometimes it takes over 3 minutes to load. I don't understand because I've checked my 3G connection and it's strong - I'm assuming the phone connects to the internet to download the maps. I used to have a Hero and it wasn't this slow.

Is there a known solution? I cleared the cache and data and force-stopped the ap, but it still happens. For what it's worth, the same exact thing happened on my Moment (well, on the Moment Google Maps didn't work at all due to the POS GPS)

Because users will be able to see thousands of markers I would like to load only those which are currently within the map bounds (i.e. when user look at specific map tile). I know how to do it with javascript/html. However, Android doesn't seem to provide any similar methods such as containsLatLng(latlng) or getBounds (I only found getLatitudeSpan and getLongitudeSpan, but don't know how can I use them in order to achieve the similar effect). Can anyone give me some hint on that?

I even changed ant to ant.bat at one place, android to android.bat at two places in ruby script. I also set target_id = 1 which is for 1.5 sdk.
I'm trying to get PhoneGap working. I've hit a hurdle getting started. I've downloaded version 0.9.1. I've been following the instructions at http://phonegap.pbworks.com/Getting-started-with-Android-PhoneGap-in-Eclipse.
Using MacOS 10.5.8. Android SDK is already installed and working with Eclipse. My .bash_profile file looks like this:

I believe that it's possible to call Java methods from (PhoneGap) Javascript. Anyone knows how to do that?? (I know how to do it by changing the source code of PhoneGap, but I'd avoid that)

These frameworks want to make it easy to make apps using web technologies and PHP i would argue is one of the biggest web technologies, but I'm not seeing much (if any) support. I am new, so I could be wrong on multiple levels. So please enlighten me and let me know if what I am trying to achieve is possible.

In my app, I have various types of data like Person, Company, City, etc; The requirement is to dynamically load the layout, find views by tags (property names like Person.name, Person.address) and then fill in data. For example, if user has selected an object of type Company, we want to load a company.xml layout, inflate it and then associate various properties (company name, company slogan, city, address, revenue) to tagged views. One possibility I see here is - each view in the layout will be associated with property-name as tag and then appropriate data will be loaded in appropriate views.
What should be the best design you would recommend?
I use the google code from devloper.android.com I use that application but in the emulator it shows only the crossed lines not the map so is there any settings in emulator for displaying maps

I never took action to upload them, they were just there I suppose as a function of allowing Google to sync. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to this android stuff and SQLlite etc.I am going to log some numbers at a certain interval, and will put them into a dynamic histogram, by dynamic i mean that there will be a maximum number of samples in the histogram, the histogram and age stuff should be persisted either in db or plain file.For simplicity, I would like the samples to be stored in a blob type datafield, but i cannot se if this is possible. Alternative i could have another table with the samples Or I could simply have files with filename = name and content = samples.my concern might be unclear by now, but put simply, what is most effecient regarding power usage?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI define once in my /xml/widget.xml the minwidth. but what can i do when I need to inflate different sizes from my widget layouts for 1 one my 3 widgets thats fine, but the last 2 widgets would just need one icon size, so they always need the width of 2 icons. also when I make minwidth smaller.. it fits with the other 2 widgets but the large widget come cutted.How to solve that. I cant believe to create a total new receiver and a new /xml/widget2.xml just for another size?!
